Compare these two decent retro ports : Final Fight Double Impact was an 800 point game and on its first day sold 890 copies to 360voice members (including me). The also well-made port Raystorm HD was priced at 1200 points and sold 106 copies (and I wasn't among them). Are other factors in play (such as more nostalgia for Final Fight)? Sure, it's possible. Still these numbers consistently show that if games are priced at that 1200 point, people won't buy them much unless they're remarkable like Toy Soldiers or Shadow Complex. Any increased profit one might see from a higher price point would be more than negated by poor sales numbers. I really don't see why so many companies are pricing their XBLA games so high. |

Perfect Dark is a MS game though and shouldn't be used as a measuring stick.

argh Metal Slug XX is tempting but I think I'll just wait and see if it goes on sale.

I don't understand the "promotion" of XBLA games at all.
May 12 - Things on Wheels - 800 pts |

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
I was only announced late last week.
It could be that the game sucks and they're sweeping it under the rug. Or it could be part of the pre-E3 push that Major Nelson mentioned on his show this weekend as to why some things are hush-hush and there are gaps in the release schedule. Who knows. There are times when even they don't. I'm still waiting on my Magic: The Gathering expansion that was announced for a 3/31 release. |
Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
Personally, I think they should either do a monthly calendar with everything coming out during the month, or do a weekly thing like they do for Rock Band. Having it mixed and matched and things just getting announced a few days before release or not even announced at all is pretty silly in my opinion.

They've gotten pretty good about that lately, though, especially with the DotW.

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
Still not good enough if this wasn't on there and neither was Metal Slug XX.

Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
This is very reminiscent of jdpatri's complaining about RBN on the PS3. I'm sure Microsoft has a suggestion box out there.

I turned on my 360 in the hopes of downloading Rocket Knight only to find it's not out until next week :(

Try turning on your 360 after the store update Wednesday morning. You might be pleasently surprised then.

Will M:TG be the first XBLA game to go all the way to 300 GS?

Update to M:TG broke the game. Fuck your QA department, Microsoft.

That sucks, what happened? (and can I avoid it if I try to play?)

If you play while connected to Live, you're hosed. |
Re: XBLA Thread Part 400 - Pinata's got a brown nose
Rocket Knight - 1200 points (demo link)
Things On Wheels - 800 points (demo link) I tried the first level of Rocket Knight on "Normal" difficulty (aka "Mind-Numbingly Easy" difficulty). It's nice. A throwback to those old PS1 2.5 D action platformers like Crash Bandicoot and such. He has a large number of moves and it looks pretty good in a cartoony way. It would have been an instant-buy for me at 800 points. At 1200, I'm waiting for reviews and maybe a sale. |
