There's a big difference between music and audio, though obviously interrelated.

On another note, I just played 'Ring of Fire' on Expert Guitar...WTF? Horribly undercharted. Some of the other charts have been really good though.

Second night of playing, and boy I tell ya, the playlist just takes a big shit the more you play. Everytime I unlock a new venue I'm all "yay! new songs!" but then they all blow. Ugh

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

So I just got the PS3 version. I only see options in the import screen to download the free DLC compatbility pack and the GHWT disc thing for 3.49. I thought you could import Smash Hits. Am I missing something?

Pretty lame DLC all around. I'll pass. For me to buy ANY DLC for GH, it would have to FIVE-STAR caliber, we're talking Zeppelin / Floyd / Who level.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Given that you don't have to play too many songs (provided you're getting 4-9 stars per track) in order to unlock the next available venue, I don't see why people are complaining so much about the songs they don't like. I hate Sublime, so I will never play that Sublime track ever in a million years. No problem. On the other hand, I love Under Pressure and Superstition, so I will play those repeatedly.

Here's a question that will make me look dumb(er than normal): How do I import the WT songs? I didn't find an option for it anywhere.

I played Sublime last night and version is that? I don't think I've ever heard that one before.

Unlocked Santana and played that song last night.

Also a thumbs up to the My Morning Jacket tune. Never heard it before but it's a good song and a challenging track to play(guitar, especially going for the HO/PO challenge). G-O, G-O, etc, over and over gives the fingers a good work out.

You still have to play a couple of songs in each venue to unlock all the songs in that venue, and then the last song to be unlocked is probably the only one you actually want to play. Some of the later venues start with a good song, but then you have to pick another shitty song or two to open up the rest of the tracks.

Yeah, they picked versions of "What I Got" and "Ring of Fire" that I hate... not cool.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

So far I've been able to avoid everything I REAAALLLY didn't want to play. At least there's a way around it.

I refuse to buy any DLC, but I hate that they got The Editors. I hope that just means some Editors tracks are coming to RB.

I can't figure why they picked either version. Could anyone actually offer a reasonable argument for these choices? In a way playing a shitty version of a good song is as painful as playing Fall Out Boy.

I can't tell you why they picked Sublime at all regardless of the version of the track.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Well, I borrowed Rock Band 2 last night and gave it a whirl. I noticed the tighter timing window, but didn't really have a problem with it. It might be just because I'm used to Guitar Hero III, but I much prefer the circular fret button indicators on GH to the rectangular ones on RB. I occasionally had a little bit of trouble verifying my finger position because when the center of the rectangle lights up, it is not as obvious to me as when the circle lights up. And I hated the star power paisley fretboard thing, very distracting.

I'll rent GH5 tonight or tomorrow (with a free rental coupon) to try it out, but unless I totally hate it I'll probably pick it up. I might skip it without the Van Halen deal, and the $10 used guitar and drums deal, but $90 for a third guitar, drums, GH:5 and GH:VH just seems like too good of a deal to pass up.

Although I'm not crazy about the entire setlist, I went over it again and realized that 25-30 of the songs I either like or really like. Since I was very happy with the tracklist of GHIII, where I liked probably 20-25 out of 42 songs, even though the percentage is lower the total number of good songs might be higher. And I'm sure I'll like a few that I'm not familiar with yet.

So ultimately, for my casual level of gaming, I didn't see anything that made me want to switch over to RB. I'll look forward to renting RB: The Beatles, though.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Well after being led to believe that WT and SH would import and then only making 1/3 of the tracks available from either is probably the last straw for me.

That and this DLC announcement really irk me. Looks like they will continue on with 3 tracks a week that I just don't care for.

I was going to re-buy some GH titles for the 360 but now, I just really don't feel like giving my money to ACT any longer just to be completely underwhelmed by the product they produce.

I had this problem at first but now I can't stand the round circles. So really its just what you get used to at first. Your taste buds just have to get used to it before you start to like the flavor.

If you are a casual gamer then GH may work out for you. But if you are passionate about music then RB gives you a far more flexibility. There are going to be literally thousands of songs soon to play on RB.
