I did the same as you -- I assumed it will benefit me in the third game. So now that I did it, I'm sure it will doom me.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
Looks like a lot of people (just finishing) just bought the game after the recent price drop. As did I.
Just completed playing Normal (was getting my ass handed to me during the Collectors battles on Hardcore) in 41 hours. Took my time as I was utterly enjoying the game.
I lost Garrus
The only possibility I could think of was that I was the group too slowly. Any input into that?
Otherwise, I got out of there will everyone else alive! But I want to get the achievement.
Finished up with Renegade on full. Picked Morinth over Samara and went to bat for a lesbian (played female Shepard) relationship.
Phenomenal game! What a story. Great blending of third person fighting and RPG ...and paced well. My only problem was the slowness of the planet scanning even after the upgrade. But overall, the repetitiveness of ME1 was greatly improved. I could easily see myself returning to this game over and over until ME3 arrives. Can't wait!

I'm about 12 hours in, I've done the free Cerberus DLC [Firewalker, Zaeed] and I just finished the world where my party first encounter the
.
I didn't have a problem with Firewalker.
Really enjoying it. Maybe it's that I recently played Dragon Age, but I am liking this much better than my experience with ME1. It seems faster [except for the mining, which was painful, but the upgrade helps], and I am continually impressed with how 'alive' Bioware can make a world and the characters, and how smoothly the DLC is integrated into the game.
Previous to this, I think I missed the "Recruit the Krogan" achievement.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
Just started this finally. Man, what a great game. The writing and graphics have both improved equally, which is saying something coming from the first which already had great graphics and pretty good writing. They definitely improved character responses to Shepard's paragon persuasion. It always annoyed me in the first game when Shepard would persuade and the characters would immediately say "yeah, you're right." Now, they have a beat added in where the characters actually think about what Shepard said, weigh the decision and then follow his advice.
But yeah, the planet scanning is so tedious!
I've already upgraded my ship's mineral scanner. Are there any other upgrades to that effect or just that first one.
And any recommendations on the better or first upgrades I should research? (I've only done the scanning research so far.)

Mass Effect 2 Gets New "Man vs Robots" Downloadable Content

There's more "premium" downloadable content on the way for EA's Mass Effect 2, and while this newest pack doesn't introduce a new character, it does have you playing John Connor over five missions.
The pack is called "Overlord", the entire thing set on a single planet as you try to shut down a dangerous enemy AI, who looks like the lovechild of Tron and SHODAN. Hope you like shooting at robots!
Despite the DLC being set in one place, you'll again be given access to the Hammerhead hovertank, with promises that you'll be able to explore the planet between indoor sections.
Overlord will be out next month. No word yet on pricing.

I loved the game and it's been a few months when I finished it. Didn't do any new DLC yet. Needed a break since I did the first ME and then went straight to the ME2. I did take notes as to which planets had the best minerals for scanning so next time around I don't have to hunt.
As to "upgrades" I maxed out everything and everyone before the last mission and all survived. My only gripe is by the time up enhance all your teammates abilities it's near the end of the game and you don't have the opportunity to really play with all the characters and combos. It would've been cool to add some sort of "horde" mod or "assault" one so you could play more with all the characters.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I'm just finishing up my SEVENTH playthrough of the first game -- yes, seventh, because I wanted all achievements and lost all my data when I was almost done, essentially having to start over -- so I'm ready to move on to part 2. I started it up and played through the first hour or so.
Definite improvement in some areas, but the levelling/points allocation/XP seems a bit dumbed down as well. Maybe I just haven't progressed far enough yet.

If you still have one of your old saves available prior to the final mission, just replay the final mission and at the end, select to start the game over again at your current level.
It won't override your original game ending, but you'll now have 2 "careers" for a character with the same name, and can still play between both if you like.
Oh, and crank it up to "Insanity" - I'm currently playing a new character/new class on that difficulty level, and it's a pretty good challenge (with some occasional cursing of course
).

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
The game has been patched today:
Random, completely unsubstantiated quote from Xbox forums:
Since I essentially just started playing this game a few days ago, I'm assuming they made this just for me. I could be wrong.

This will come as good news to anyone (that's most of you we'd imagine) who has wasted hours of precious life dragging a scanning reticule around numerous planets in an endless search for resources.
Here's the list in full:
* Scanning for minerals has been optimised
* Fixed an issue with marking all entries as viewed in the Journal
* Fixed an issue relating to text and the menu screen
* Fixed an issue relating to players starting a new game and loading a save
* Fixed multiple issues when loading a save containing DLC when DLC isn't present
* Fixed an issue with ammo flashing when it can't be picked up
* Fixed an issue with crosshairs
* Fixed an issue with Grunt's Fortification power
* Fixed an issue with enemies and cover
* Fixed an issue where players could receive additional talent points
* Fixed an issue where squad members would overwrite ammo powers the player had assigned them

While not specifically game related, looks like there is a Mass Effect movie in the works. http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/173...t-gets-a-movie
My buddy and I were talking about this the other day. Said the game is essentially a script in of itself and you wouldn't have to do much other than cut the extraneous crap out.

I have it, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Hopefully I'll get a chance tomorrow sometime.
The reviews I've seen for it have been positive.

I've played Overlord. It's...more Mass Effect 2.
So yeah, it's worth getting. Definitely longer than Kasumi, and it has a good side story with an affecting ending.
Not at all essential though, as far as linking this game with the next one.
