Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC - and coming to PS3 in 2011!

I thought there was a thread for this already, but I couldn't find anything searching for Mass Effect other then discussion on the original.

Anyway, Mass Effect 2 was "officially" announced today even though we saw a teaser for it already. I guess being with EA still doesn't mean the series is coming to the PS3 either, as it was announced for just 360 and PC.

March 17, 2009 - BioWare and EA have formally announced Mass Effect 2 for Xbox 360 and PC, both versions set to come in early 2010. With the announcement, we've also received the first bit of details on what the story will be for the sequel. According to the press release, the second chapter will be dark and, "Saren's evil army of Geth soldiers has just been defeated, and humans, who are still struggling to make their mark on the galactic stage, are now faced with an even greater peril..."

Ray Muzyka, General Manager and CEO of BioWare delivered this quote regarding the announcement, "We're going to surpass the extraordinary gaming experience we brought our fans in Mass Effect by delivering intensified combat and expanded weapon options as well as increased depth of planet exploration, all while delivering a powerful, emotionally engaging story. Mass Effect 2 is shaping up to be an unforgettable RPG-shooter experience, taking players on a non-stop roller-coaster ride filled with stunning plot twists and no-holds-barred action."

As long as they fix the repeating environments/stages on each planet with the same objective, i'll be happy. It was also mentioned before that having an old Mass Effect 1 save will have a benefit in the 2nd game.

I have played the first one yet, but it is on my list. I'm glad there is going to be a sequel.

The Mass Effect side quests were definitely lame. Would like to see some significant improvement there.

One of my favorite games for the 360. Definite pre-order.

Agreed. It felt like the same mission over and over, especially with the same interiors.

Still getting ME2 on day one :)

I didn't mind the side quests, despite their sameness.

The inventory system, on the other hand -- if they don't fix that, I'm going to show up at Ray Muzyka's house to give him a piece of my mind.

I keep seeing ME1 for sale for under $15 but for some reason I'm under the impression that it wasn't that great so I always pass it up.

I guess I'm wondering how ME2 will pan out with that negative impression.

You are wondering how ME2 will pan out based on your unwarranted negative impression? Okay.

It'll do fine with your negative impression, don't worry. ;)

man... i can't wait! I still need to finish my second play through of the first game. One of the best "modern" RPG games out there!

Whatever. I think it's a valid impression. I heard from more than a few people that the 1st one wasn't that great so wondering if a sequel will get the same reaction makes sense.

It makes sense if that's all the exposure you've gotten about the game, but the reviews for this have been very high at release and public reception has been very positive.

Well, then it makes sense because that's all I've heard. I wanted the 1st game when it came out but the reviews from people I spoke with made me skip it due to their thoughts about it.

You guys may not agree with how I came to that conclusion. But I don't think it's hard to understand why someone who felt this way would be wary of a sequel.

Find new people to speak with then, cause Mass Effect is a fantastic game. I don't see how you can be wary of a sequel to a game you haven't even played.

It's not hard to understand, it's just odd given that the reception to the first game has been overwhelmingly positive. If you wanted the first game, it's odd for someone to not look at other reviews and thoughts about it (or even the lengthy thread here).

It's like believing that Gears of War 2 was going to suck because a few people told you the first game was crummy and being oblivious to all the other hype and raving about it :)

I'm pretty excited. Loved the original. It'd be really cool if they allowed you to incorporate your saves from the first one somehow, so your decisions and choices there, particularly at the end, could effect the story in Mass Effect 2.

It's more then worth $15. It's not perfect, but definitely one of the best RPGs on the 360.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

ME1 was a great, addictive experience while I was playing it, but when it was over, I was like "that's it?" - not a very satisfying game, considering it's potential - overall, it was a little shallow and certain parts of the game felt very unfinished. I hope these things are addressed in the sequel.

Well, based on the trailer it looks like you're a totally different character.

I know there was an interview with one of the developers who pretty much said, "Keep your saved games!" From what I understand your stats will carry over, and I assume some of the attributes of your story will too.

With that being said, I'm guessing maybe he's not really dead? Maybe he's in some secret operation?

Yeah, but there were some major decisions, particularly at the end of the game, that would effect the entire galaxy, and I'm hoping they can implement into Mass Effect 2.
