So yeah, it's worth getting. Definitely longer than Kasumi, and it has a good side story with an affecting ending.

Not at all essential though, as far as linking this game with the next one.
Just played through and I agree with this.

It's pretty much like the Mako missions from the first game where you travel around a planet in the hammerhead to different bases and fight.

Or like the Firewalker missions from this game where you travel around a planet in the hammerhead to different bases and fight.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

I just finished this tonight, about 31 hours on the clock.
Still enjoyed it. A few times i felt like I was fighting the controls [when using cover, primarily] but that last half hour or so was great.

However I lost
Spoiler:
Tali. I used her to hack open the door in the first area you select assignments, since she was a tech person. Do you just have to be lucky and pick the right person for each phase of the endgame, or was there something else I could have done?

Also I didn't score with anyone. Except maybe
Spoiler:
Yeoman Chambers, she joined me for a late night dinner and 'never had so much fun' or something. Didn't get an achievement for her, I guess the commander's not supposed to fraternize with the enlisted folks.

Admittedly I didn't spend a lot of time going back and forth and chitchatting with crewmembers in their lairs, except to generate their loyalty quests. Although I did luck in Mordin at a time he was feeling gregarious, and told me about his hobby,
Spoiler:
performing in musicals. That was awesome.

Anyway, I know there's some things I missed [I only bought one space map, for instance], but this was great. The universe is so fleshed out and has so much personality, I would have like to make time to read all the codex stuff, I could definitely see the ME universe spawning a series of science fiction novels [hopefully 'real' science fiction, not branded shovelware stuff].

One minor complaint [now that they sped up planet mining. I read faster than people talk - I would hit B to skip the dialog sometimes, but if the next thing was a dialog wheel, hitting B also acts as the 'end conversation' choice.

Congrads dtcarson on finishing and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Before this came out I got the first one based on what pretty much everyone said, play it first and then the second one. It turned out to be a good choice. Like catching the second Lord of the ringds movie without seeing the first.

As to losing team members I followed the advice of several and that was max out all their abilities before attempting which I did. The other part was forming the right teams which I cannot remember which was which.

The Mining Part has been the most reported complaint on this stunning stellar game. I hit every planet in every system and ended up with far more extra material than needed. I did however keep a written log as to which planets and where had the "best stuff" if I ever went thru again.

My only other complaint was after maxing most of the characters there wasn't enough missions to go back and play different team combinations.

There already is a series of sci-fi novels based on the ME universe, and apparently they're pretty good, although I haven't read any of them personally.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

Cool, I'll have to check them out. Bioware really creates a fullfledged universe, at least based on Dragon Age and Mass Effect. My library doesn't have them, although they do have the KOTOR novels.

I had played ME a while back but didnt' finish it, the Mako missions annoyed me. I liked ME2 a lot more than I remember liking ME.

I don't think I maxed out anybody, I kept changing up who I took with me. Besides, the game is somewhat linear - either there's a lot of side quests/areas I missed, or people went back to grind?

I just hit each planet at least once for mining, and mined it until it went to Poor [or I got bored], but I also had plenty of resources.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

The third Mass Effect novel actually comes out in a week or so. I liked the first two. They're not the best novels of all time, but they were fun, especially if you're a fan of the fiction BioWare has created.

It's going to be interesting to see what's in the new book, because if it is anything like the other two, it's going to introduce a number of plot elements and characters that are going to be vital to the third game (the second book introduced the Collectors and Omega for example).

Officially time to wait for the uber-edition. Wonder if I should just sell it now.

Awesome, 'cause Liara's still my lesbo romantic option: bom-chicka-bow-wow!

I bet it will, since the 360 version has dropped in price it'll give them reason to charge $59.99 for it. Maybe they'll have a GOTY edition of some sort for 360 too.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

That is great news, but they need to bring out the first one as well. That game is one hell of a story, and you will miss a lot if you have not played the first one..

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

From the BioWare site looks like it includes all the dlc.

Mass Effect 2 has officially arrived on the PS3!

Coming in January of 2011 in beautiful Blu-ray, Mass Effect 2 PS3 will feature hours of bonus content making it the perfect entry point to the franchise.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

I wonder how this will affect Mass Effect 3. I guess at this point I'll still play it on 360 since I've already played 1 & 2 on the 360. I want to go back and play both of those, but in NG+ fashion and not just NG.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC

Wouldn't it be great if Bioware could make it work if you played ME1 on the 360 or PC you could import your save into ME2 on the PS3.

From IGN regarding the first game

A company representative told IGN the publisher has "no plans" to bring Mass Effect 1 to PS3.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC - and coming to PS3 in 2011!

Finally beat the game about a week ago. Took me around 30 hours. But I did everything, first time really in a game where I explored every planet, and done all the sidequest minus the DLC which I am planning on getting all the DLC for the game. This game was beyond amazing. I really love the universe and the characters in this game. Really added alot to the game being able to play as your character from the first one. Very cool meeting old characters and how the dialogue changes depending on what happened in the first one.

This story I thought was fantastic on how they kept building to the finale. I loved the whole aspect of going around the galaxy recruiting the best of the best. and getting alll there back stories. But the last mission was very cool and felt very cinematic and very cool how your team came together.

The only thing I wish is they would add some CG sequences into the story as the cg trailers for this game looked AMAZING. THis game is probably in my Top 3 favorite games ever.

Not releasing the first one to PS3 may work okay for stuff like Dead Rising, but Mass Effect? Really?
