Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I played this game for about 7 hours today. Probably the most I've ever played in one sitting. The game kinda caught me off guard how quickly the main storyline develops. Most of my time had been exploring and mining planets. It kinda sucks that I'm up to right before you use the Omega 4 relay and I have over 120k of Iridium. I hope it carries over to Mass Effect 3 cause I won't be getting use out of it in this game. Also, I'm only at level 24 with all loyalty missions done and a bunch of side missions. Don't see myself getting even close to 30.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I'm bummed that even though I had the extra credits from my ME1 imported save, I still didn't have enough to buy a few of the upgrades at some of the shops - and there's nothing left for me to do to earn more credits, except for possible DLC.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
So far ..so good but if there was one thing I'd wish they kept from ME1 it would be the interface of how you spend your "points". The new one looks more updated and streamlined but the one in ME1 is more informative and you seem to have more control.

I finished the game last night. It took me 34 hours and with those two minor complaints aside was a huge improvement from the first game. It is easy to say that ME2 is one of my favorite games ever. I had a blast the whole way through and can't wait for ME3. I played it full Paragon, though I didn't for some reason on the Garrus loyalty mission. Outside of that I was a boyscout. I may play through again just to see the Renegade options, but I just don't feel comfortable playing Shepard that way for a real game I plan to use in ME3. One thing Spoiler:

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I spent an hour on Saturday just scanning planets and getting enough minerals for upgrades. I do wish scanning went a bit faster -- but it's addictive as hell.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
Has anyone else taken a listen to this? I find it to be hilarious.
http://kotaku.com/5471780/two-turnta...netary-scanner Mass Effect 2's soundtrack is pretty great, but you know what makes it better? Fan-made Hip-hop tracks devoted entirely to that most badass of pursuits: scanning a planet for minerals. This is "Those Minerals", by Kabuto the Python, available for free on community music site Tindeck. Depending on your tastes, the rapping may be a little...hard on the ears, so if you'd prefer an instrumental version (beats by TH89), you can grab it from here. |
Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
Question...yea silly...explain just how to map the powers so to make it easier instead of pausing? I've read the manual and it's showing how to map powers to "LB & RB". But don't you press those to bring up the power wheel?
|
Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
You hold those buttons for the power wheel, you can tap them to use a power. I used one for throw, since it was such a quick recharge on my sentinel.
Just finshed the game today, and I ran out of money too... so I didn't fully upgrade the non automatic pistol and the assault rifle. Anyone use that non-auto pistol as a main weapon? It packed a punch, but just had too little ammo for most of the longer fights. Finished the game as a paragon today, really enjoyed it. I didn't like how they oversimplified the inventory system, though... you don't really get a ton of different weapons, but there's no way that I saw that you could see their stats, at all. I also could've used a way to see the descriptions of powers BEFORE you picked your team, since I always forgot what was useful against what. |
Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I beat it tonight.
I'm kinda disappointed. I spent all this time upgrading and preparing my crew and the last level was a cinch. I really enjoyed how it was done. The final boss of the game was spoiled for me when I looked through the art book that came with the collector's edition. Not so bad though. Some of the highlights of the game: +Legion -- what a badass! +Samara's loyalty mission. Really enjoyed a break from shooting stuff all the time. On the negative side, Thane's loyalty mission was just annoying. +Assigning different people at the end of the game for different chores. Wish this could've happened more in the story. +Thresher Maw ain't shit when I got a nuclear bomb strapped on my back! It went down in one shot! +Seeing all your former crew in various missions. I will miss this crew in the next game. I hope they have the balls to add nudity in the next game. These games are rated M anyway. |

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I just attempted a suicide-run but failed. I only had Jack and Samara's loyalty and no ship upgrades but somehow still was able to make it out alive. Samara and Grunt were the only other survivors.
Another weird thing that happened was that I was able to use intimidate to keep both Jack and Miranda's loyalty (I didn't though because I was going for a suicide run). The thing was, my renegade meter wasn't even at 40% while my paragon meter was around 45% but the charm option was grayed out. Has anyone else been able to do this with such a low paragon/renegade score? My 1st playthrough I had around 80 paragon and couldn't use either dialogue. |
Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
Why would someone not do all the loyalty missions? They're some of the best missions in the game - why even buy the game if you're not going to play such a major part of it? It's like buying a Mario game and skipping half the levels before playing the last one.
|
Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I think he was trying to see if he could finish with everyone dead. You need 2 or 3 people loyal to jump through the Omega-4 relay.
|
Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
Started my second play through last night, glad to know that if you use another gamer tag you can still use the dlc without having to sign into the Cerberus network.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I ended up finishing up another game of ME1 to get my guy up to 60 (and to change up a few things so it would be slightly different). Being able to shoot non-stop (with Frictionless) was nice, but I missed being able to duck, and combat in that vehicle just sucks--other than one time I just ended up getting out of the vehicle and fighting everything that way.

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
Obtaining more "stuff' either pickup or buy?
In ME1 there were only a few places to buy and sell stuff but ended up with way to much in terms of credits, Gel and parts. Are there... More shops through out the game to sell and buy? In this one you have not only credits but also "material" to buy certain parts and upgrades....(sub zero)....how important is this in upgrades? I just opened the Tech Area and now see options for upgrading the ship. Is this for later in the game and should I make sure that I keep enough for it? One is for a better scanner for planets? |
Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
If you don't upgrade the ship (not counting the scanner)
Spoiler:
I may be wrong, but the only place I remember that you could buy items were the major planets that are on your map; Omega, Illium, and Tuchanka. You'll find pieces to upgrade your weapons throughout the game. You won't have a problem finding elements. I ended up with a lot more than I needed. |
Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I didn't think the ship upgrades that actually did something useful (like the scanner, the extra fuel, the med stuff) affected anything... does it?
|
Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
The scanner just makes it go a little faster when you're scanning planets. The extra fuel was so you don't have to go back to the fuel depot when you move between systems in a nebula. The med bay isn't necessary.
All it does is Spoiler:

Re: Mass Effect 2 - 360 and PC
I would imagine the "useless" upgrades, as you're implying, (like armor, weapons, etc) are pretty useful in making the initial jump into the unknown. Can you even use O4 Relay without those upgrades? If you do, would you get torn to shreds?
