So I think I'm getting pretty close to the end and wanted to see if there are any side missions or anything I should tackle before I finish. Anything that might affect the ending or anything that that I won't be able to return to once I finish the initial playthough. I already kind of messed up earlier on and did the Shadow Broker mission and ended up losing Liara in my lineup (so I don't know if that ultimately matters or not), so I didn't want to chance anything else.

You should finish everything you want to finish before the ending.

Finish your team member side missions first. It could affect the ending.

finish all team side missions AND upgrade your ship all the way..

Also, be sure to have all your side missions completed before

the Reapers kidnap your crew.
Otherwise, crew members like

Rebecca Chambers will die and not reappear in Mass Effect 3.

OK, it looks like I'll focus on getting the team side missions done first. I mainly use Garrus, Grunt, and Miranda, so those are the only ones I've done so far to get the loyalty unlocked. The ship upgrades are super expensive. Is there a good way to get that currency fast?

One more thing. There is one loyalty you have to leave for last.

Legion's loyalty mission, as I recall, becomes possible after you do the Reaper IFF (or whatever it's called) mission. However, it's during that mission that your crew gets kidnapped and, if you delay, they all die once you reach them where they are held hostage.

You have to have a fully upgraded ship with all the other loyalty missions accomplished. Go to the IFF mission, immediately complete Legion's loyalty mission, and then immediately dive into the suicide mission.

Now here is another wrinkle. Though your crew will survive (with the exception of a random red shirt), you still need to be carful how you break up your teams during the suicide mission because they can still die. Keep in mind who they are and what they can do. That's the best way to choose who does what. Their personalities also factor in their probabilities of success and survival.
