I did a search for Heavy Rain, and didn't find any official thread for Heavy Rain, so I guess I will post this here. Has anyone seen the latest Heavy Rain videos? One video shows a female being forced to strip at gunpoint, and it actually does show topless nudity. FoxNews is going to have a field day with that.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition

I'm just going to ask this here. I just bought a PS3 and I'm having problems setting up the dvd player. I have a 40" LCD and the dvd is not being stretched across the screen on 4:3 dvds (Simpsons, XFiles, etc). I have my tv set to 16:9 and never had this problem with a regular dvd player.

What do I need to switch on the PS3? I found a setting for letterbox and it's set to that.

Well, if the dvds are anamoprhic, then they are being displayed correctly. I think you need to change your HDTV aspect mode to Full or H-fill. However, there very well may be a setting on the PS3 that I don't know about that could also do this, but at the very least you can change your TV's actual aspect mode (which I sometimes have to do when flipping between HD programming and SD programming on TV.)

Sorry to get this thread off topic.

I'll try out the tv. I don't think that's it though, I'm pretty sure it's the PS3. I just swapped my old dvd player with the PS3 so the settings on the tv haven't changed. I'm not sure what anamorphic means, but those dvd's were stretching all the way across before with my other dvd players.

The PS3 is probably pillar-boxing the 4:3 material and your TV is receiving a 16:9 image. I'd look through the DVD and/or display settings on the PS3.

If I'm reading your problem right, I had the same issue. There was a setting in the PS3 menu I had to change. Under video settings I set the BD/DVD Upscaler to Normal.

On a side note, I just noticed a "Sequential Playback" option in the settings. Any ideas what that is for?

It's for playing stored videos in sequence. I don't know how it determines the order though, unless it's just alphabetical.

That was it. Thanks, I spent a lot of time trying to figure that out. The PS3 manual is terrible.

I knew very little about this game, but it showed up so cheap in my Gold Box. It was $48 after gold box and ECA discounts. I figured it was worth jumping on in case it turns out awesome. It still has no release date, according to my order status. I should be on the lookout for more previews of this game.

The developer walkthrough videos in that link give a good idea what the game will be like. Did you play Indigo Prophecy last gen? (It was called Fahrenheit in Europe.) Heavy Rain is made by the same people and looks to be very similar.

I wish they would update the PS3 to upscale BD special features that are in SD. There is nothing worse than watching special features on a BD that look almost VHS like.

I can think of one thing worse: watching special features on a BD that look almost VHS like stretched to 16:9 when filmed at 4:3.

You can make her strip further if you like. In fact, that's something that's being debated regarding the US release. It's known the UK release will have full frontal nudity in that sequence but it's unknown if the US version will ommit that option altogether.

I love how we have been conditioned this generation to think $50 is a deal.

People also forget how much NES games were when released. Most ranging from $30-80 and the Atari before that was roughly $20-40. Games have always been relatively expensive.

It will be awesome. That game is the only reason I bought my PS3...at launch.

Hell, I remember saving my allowance up for MONTHS in addition to collecting bottles just to buy a Coleco game. And I ended up buying Zenji...It was $70.

How many times was Zenji delayed to polish those wicked graphics?

I remember mowing a crapload of lawns to buy Strider for the Genesis at the $70 price point.

It was revolutionary, goddammit.

I remember the massive $100 tag on Virtua Racing for the Genesis.
