I'll try out the tv. I don't think that's it though, I'm pretty sure it's the PS3. I just swapped my old dvd player with the PS3 so the settings on the tv haven't changed. I'm not sure what anamorphic means, but those dvd's were stretching all the way across before with my other dvd players.

Which means you are watching 4:3 material stretched to a 16:9 display :(

I think the PS3 was encouraging you to embrace OAR! :)

Is Hulu not working for anyone else?

I tried it last night and for everything I tried to see I got "Video cannot be seen on this platform. SOrry"

Whats up with that?

Yes it was blocked.

You have at least a couple of options that require another PC.

1.- You can use PlayOn to stream Hulu from a PC to your PS3. It's easy to install and works really well, even through wireless.

2.- Google "hulu ps3 workaround" there are several options there, but the basic premise is that you install a program in your PC that acts like a proxy (one of the options is actually a proxy server), you enter your PC IP address as the proxy in your PS3 browser and then you should be able to access Hulu. What that proxy program/server does in your PC is to hide the PS3 from Hulu, so you can actually stream shows.

Is there a way of making the PS3 internet browser 16:9? I've been watching more YouTube videos lately and have been looking at PlayOn for Hulu and Netflix streaming, but if there's no way to watch them in 16:9, I don't really see the point.

In the menu (press triangle), change the View to maximum size, then in Tools/Display Area, change it to full pixel. That makes it take up the full screen area, but I don't know how it affects fullscreen videos.

has the blu-ray playback problem been fixed? the latest update really fucked it up.

I guess I should be thankful, my PS3 is still on firmware 2.80. I don't see myself updating it until Sony fixes all the bugs with the last two revisions. The downside is that I can't sign into the Playstation Store until I update, so no Joker Challenge Rooms, AA DLC, or MUA2 Juggernaut for me :(

What problems? I haven't noticed any.

I have a pretty good idea that nobody but me took advantage of that recent NFS Shift + Logitech Wireless Wheel deal that Best Buy had a couple of weeks ago. But just in case somebody else did, BB is selling NFS Shift for $39.99 this week. The item rang up on the original receipt as $59.99 + $20 for the wheel. It's a little YMMV and I got shot down my first attempt (since the items do show up as a package on the receipt), but on my second, the CS girl gave me a refund of $20 + tax (and other CAGs have also had success). Getting the game and that wheel for $60 was truly one of the best deals of the year.

But why in the hell was it blocked? That seems pretty fucked up.

I'd be super-pissed too if I had people over to watch a movie . . . and it worked?

Absolutely. There is nothing worse than trying to show off and have it work.

Conceptually though, it is quite stupid that these firmware updates seem to be breaking things.

Ever since .VOB file support was damaged by a firmware update and then fixed 4 months later with a subsequent update, I've decided that I'm no longer updating the firmware. If it means no PSN store access, oh well. If it means having to forgo the latest games, so be it.

The PS3 can be used in so many different ways that even "waiting it out" to see how stable a firmware update is doesn't seem to help. Some of these esoteric bugs don't get visibility.

I did a search for Heavy Rain, and didn't find any official thread for Heavy Rain, so I guess I will post this here. Has anyone seen the latest Heavy Rain videos? One video shows a female being forced to strip at gunpoint, and it actually does show topless nudity. FoxNews is going to have a field day with that.

I doubt the nudity will remain intact. The last game these guys made, Fahrenheit, had similar sequences of nudity/stripping and graphic sex, these scenes were cut for the US release (and re-titled Indigo Prophecy).

I can't say if the sex getting cut really had an impact as I only had a chance to play the uncut edition. Though considering the amount of nudity God of War has gotten away with, it may get to stay intact.

I hope Heavy Rain has better gameplay than the aforementioned Indigo/Fahrenheit. For better or worse, the game was so compelling I couldn't put it down (even after it got super silly), but the gameplay was so unimaginative and occasionally simply unfun that I had no desire to play it again, and I love adventure games and generally do replay em.

Any word on if Angelo Badalamenti is scoring Heavy Rain as well?

Looks to be pretty much the same type of gameplay, this time though we control multiple characters who can die during the game...which obviously will affect the story.

There's been a lot of weird stuff the developer has said about the game. Like you shouldn't replay the game ever. That it would hurt the experience.

really?

that's lame. I'm going to replay it at least twice...once to kill everyone, and once to have everyone live...maybe even one other time with a mix to see what's what.

Stuff like that makes me worry how non-linear it truly is.

"Don't play it again or you'll see that your different actions don't really do anything!"

Regardless, I'm looking forward to it.

It wasnt a movie watching party. It was just on while cooking and people could either sit and watch, or walk around and talk. I always do that and keep the volume down
