Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
Having Netflix is great news, although I'm not sure what is going to be on the disc that is going to be sent to me from clicking that link.
|
Since it's free to all PS3 users (w/Netflix accounts), I wonder if Xbox will now extend Netflix to Silver members?
|
Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
I don't really need two Netflix streaming machines right next to each other, but signed up for the disc anyway since perhaps they might have a better interface than the XBL one. Nice that PS3 users will also have access to Netflix streaming. Now the PS3 really does do everything.
Still, as slowly as things stream off the PSN, as long as every demo or update takes to download, does anyone actually think that Netflix streaming will be a frustration-free experience? |
^^ That's a good point. I can't imagine HD Streaming is going to work at all.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
I'm pretty sure they'll be streaming directly from Netflix servers, not through PSN.

I'm not sure why I need a disc for this? For the 360 it just came through as a small download.

Faster to get the app on a disc through the mail than to connect and download the 6.5MB from PSN.
I just hope that they don't implement this through a "Home" channel where there are five virtual "theaters" and if somebody is already streaming a movie you have to wait. |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
tired ps3 "joke" checklist:
slow download times - CHECK home - CHECK you guys forgot the one about how your blu-ray player now has another function... |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
If only they were jokes...

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
you mispelled funny

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
You think those facts are funny?
If you pull your tampon out, you may have noticed that there's some interest in this and, for me, it's even making me consider a 2nd <s>PS3</s> Blu-Ray/Netflix device for my bedroom. Sorry I don't play games on it. |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
pretty sure I just said they weren't funny. I'm not defending Sony, I'm defending good humor.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
Hells yeah this is awesome news!!! I've been waiting for this for quite some time.

 Yeah, the whole disc thing is just bizarre. This is good news for those who only have a PS3, but the 360's implementation seems a lot more convenient.
This will suffice, though I'd rather buy a 2nd 360 for gaming supplemented with a cheap BD player during Black Friday. If Microsoft drops the "Gold" requirement in response to this... |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
That's good news as even my new quieter 360 Elite is still much louder than my PS3. If I could just get AVIs to stream properly to the PS3 that would be my one and only media server.

You have to have blu-ray access enabled on your netflix account which is $2 or $3 extra a month, on top of the netflix free.. So.. it will be free if you already have that add-on on your account. But if you don't you will need to add it. |

It isn't 100% free though.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
I am going to amend my post. I am trying to find a confirming source. I made the initial statement based on one quick news report I saw posted online. I'm trying to find an actual news article. So, that requirement may or may not be true.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
It looks like this may be the reason for the disc requirement.
Initially, watching movies instantly streamed from Netflix via the PS3 system will be enabled by a free, instant streaming Blu-ray disc that is being made available to all Netflix members. The free instant streaming disc leverages Blu-ray's BD-Live(TM) technology to access the Internet and activate the Netflix user interface on the PS3 system, which must be online via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - March 09 Edition
So we have to keep the disc in the drive to use Netflix?
