Cool...will have the server up no later than 7 CST...need to pick the maps.

Looks like a lot of folks are PLANNING to jump in, which doesn't always translate to butts in seats, if you know what I mean.

Still, I'm limited to 8, so if you can't get in, just try again in a bit. People tend to come and go.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

Great times fellas!

I'll pontificate tomorrow, but I just want to thank everybody who came out. I can barely keep up but it must've been 10-12 people total.

Honestly, I'm barely even holding back at this point except in the dogfights. You guys are getting pretty good!

Sorry tormentor...you're just about 500 hours in this game better than the rest of us.

My personal highpoint of the night: taking out 2 jeeps, 2 guys, and reclaiming our team flag.....all within about 10 seconds.

Still suck at flying Warhawks though.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

Again, a very cool night. We had 6 on by 7:30 and rarely had less than 8 all the way through 11:00. I've started loading death match maps for the first couple maps...just as sort of a lobby while everybody gets in. By the time we got to TDM and CTF, we had plenty of people. I think it worked out pretty well, and I'll probably do the same next week.

I'm also very pleased that folks are getting their headsets sorted out. Everybody sounded good last night. I encourage folks who don't have headsets to get a cheap USB one sometime...or just use your cellphone bluetooth.

Lots of highlights for me last night. Probably the time I had the most fun was on the desert map when I had the other team's flag and took it all the way to our base but couldn't score it. I kept hearing "somebody go kill frizby!", so I figured rather than waiting around, I'd just roll a tank back to the other base. I'm not sure they were expecting that!

Off the top of my head, folks who played (I'm sure I'll forget somebody):

Chew - one of the first in...seemed to be getting the hang of the rocket launcher!
Chris Felise (Nxlr8) - who is clearly holding back, and I appreciate it
Eric (eroc79) - friend of mine...funny dude
Ed Stein - Ed killed me a lot...and I returned the favor once or twice
Jdpatri (Flipperbaby) - Clearly new to the game, but was getting some kills
Murray - Seems like murray jumped in later in the evening...always a pleasure
CloudVader - One of the first in...got that headset adjusted...much better
Ravenous (Ofermod) - Another SA DVDtalker (bunch of those)
One anonymous guest -
Whistlersteve - who is pretty good...or at least knows good hiding places
I Flores - who is just out of my league...can't imagine how you meet the rank limit.
Me (frizby) - humble host...who spent too much time in the air last night.

Thanks again to everybody! Hope to see you all next week!

Clearly I wasn't much help to the blue team as anything other than a diversion. I did like to ram the jeeps into corners and then honk the horn to let everyone know where I was.

This game really is a lot more fun in these friendly games than the regular online matches that caused me to stop playing shortly after I began. My only experience with this game before last night was the tutorial and a couple of online games last August. And I'd forgotten everything I'd known anyway.

I would also normally have a bluetooth but it wasn't connecting and I couldn't find my spare. It was, however, priceless when my wife walked into the room last night to watch five minutes or so... and someone blew me into bits at close range with a rocket launcher or something. Whoever destroyed me said "Well now I almost feel bad," and she almost fell off the couch laughing.

Priceless. I do that sometimes when trying to run people over...then they casually walk over an knife me in the jeep (which you can do...sorry ed).

You did fine for your first time, and yes, it's very important to me that these stay friendly. In these games, I usually find it amusing when I die...but not so much in a normal game with some 13 year old calling me a "n00b".

Pretty sure that was me. I'd cruise around looking for something to shoot at, and somehow...every time...there you were!

I'm getting the hang of this game. I still have a ways to go before I have the maps memorized. We should add a knifes and nades only round into the mix. Those are usually hysterical.

There's no way to limit it artificially, so it would have to be on the honor system, but I agree that they are fun. Folks were pretty good about not using mines last night.

Let me think about how to execute that one...

I'm pretty sure that based on my ability to accurately switch weapons mid-combat someone would get shot with the rocket launcher.

No problem. That's why these are friendly games. What make's the knife and nade game fun is the guy at the bottom of the kill list will get pissed off and all of a sudden start launching rockets. Hillarity insues. Just be prepared to take the verbal abuse or if you do it to frizby you get banned.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night

As long as it's funny, I'd roll with it for sure. I've played in a couple of knife/nade games, and they were fun. Unfortunately, it wasn't usually the person at the bottom that broke the rules...it was always somebody jumping in the game who just didn't give a crap. I don't think we'd have that problem. The problem I have sorting it out is that I would have to announce it before that particular map, and I'm unsure how many people can actually hear me. I know I'd have me muted!

I haven't had to be super aggressive with the moderating thus far. I've only kicked the one person out of the game, and that was because I recognized them consistently using the same tricks that I see in veteran games...which is fine amongst veteran players, but I try to fight a bit more straightforward with you guys as you ease into the game. It's hard sometimes, because there's a "rock-paper-scissors" pattern to the game where any weapon or vehicle employed has some weakness, and your instinct is to exploit that.

I remember that feeling when I first started. I'd panic for half a second and end up aiming at my feet with the wrong weapon. Before some Halo guy stabbed me. You recognize the Halo guys because they are ALWAYS hopping.

Don't worry, it'll be second nature before you know it. The knife is always down on the d-pad.

Hey I was there too!

It was a damn fun time. For the first time I actually captured a flag, but I dont know how I did it! When you catch one you take it back to the base than what? Stand by youre flag? Press a button? I got one than made it back but nothing... I finally got killed cause the stupid game didnt let it count or something.

Apologies, I keep confusing you and Ocelot.

The flags work like this: You grab the enemy flag and return it to your flag. But if the enemy has your flag, you can't complete the "capture", so your flag has to be saved first. It creates a fun dynamic where the other team will escape your base with your flag, and you have to jet over and grab theirs before they can post it. The longer you hold an enemy flag, the more "charged" it is, and the longer it takes to save.

You save the flag by killing whoever is carrying it and not letting another enemy grab it. You can save it faster by standing next to it, and you'll see a little bar for how charged it is that will decrease over time. In Warhawk, the bar will decrease even faster if you jump up and down at the flag.

You don't have to push any buttons to grab, save or post the flag, just be in the right area.

Hope some of that made sense.

Ahhh okay. That makes sense. Well except the "In Warhawk, the bar will decrease even faster if you jump up and down at the flag" So when carrying the flag, or saving it, jumping around helps the meters speed?

Either way, I look forward to next wednesday.

Only when saving it or when capturing zones (but that's a whole other game type). Also, the more people you have around the flag when saving it, the quicker the meter goes down.

I look forward to Wednesday too, but only for Lost! Hopefully you meant Tuesday.

What's your PSN name, if you don't mind posting it. I need to sort you and Ocelot out. I think he's something...knight...or is that you?

Ah... so that's the story behind CTF (it took me a little while to figure out Capture The Flag). Yeah, i'll look forward to the next session as well.
Chess, Knight is me :P

I got your invite, but i was in the middle of a quick session for Soldner X (trying out the new easy patch) and i had KZ2 plan already...

Yea, Tuesday it is! If you have to add maps everytime we do a game, maybe more CTF. Itd be great to practice that some more. I had more fun with thse than the death match.

I agree, those are a ton more fun. (obviously dependent on the turnout!)

I absolutely agree as well. CTF is easily my favorite game type in that it gives you an objective besides killing and gives huge value to folks who just want to play defense. I think the ratio this last time was 4 CTF, 3 TDM, and 2 DM.

I really like to start with DM as sort of a lobby while folks get online, but I will probably move further in the direction of CTF, and I also got the impression that folks liked the dogfight map, as it prompted a few to stick around for "one more match". Would you guys like to see one more of those in the rotation?

For next week, I'm thinking:

DM
TDM
CTF
CTF
Dogfight DM
CTF
CTF
Dogfight TDM
CTF (big map)

I'm open to requests for specific maps or comments on specific maps that you guys like/dislike.

Also, I've been running the matches for about 25 minutes. Does that feel about right?
