Just give me a time but usually after 9pm CST, I am always good. Have to put the wife and kid to bed so I can stay up late.

You might be rank limited out of this one, unfortunately, but if you do go in, I would definitely expect some newbie etiquette. Violators will get the banhammer.

I don't own the game but would certainly grab it if there were a regular game going on. PSN name is in my sig.

I sent invites out yesterday and most were approved, so good start. I'm not expecting more than a couple of you to show tonight, and that's fine. The mission tonight will just be to putz around and get used to the controls.

Re: Any interest in a Weekly Warhawk night?
I should have mentioned before...the best way to find the game I set up will be to go to "community", then "buddies". You should see me and the game I'm in...just join it and enter the password (forum). I can't test the password bit, but that should work.
I picked out 5 maps this morning, all basic death match, since I expect the turnout to be light and want to keep it simple. 3 of them are sufficiently large that you'll get a chance to run around but hopefully not so large that you don't run into each other every now and then. They also have vehicles. The other 2 maps are on foot and in confined areas, so they'll get chaotic, but they are good practice for playing on foot. None of the maps I loaded will require DLC.
If you guys have fun (you will) and a sufficient number want to play next week, I'll set up more team death match and capture the flag maps with larger areas.
Hope to see a few of you tonight!

Re: Any interest in a Weekly Warhawk night?
I just got off after 5 straight hours, and I want to thank everyone who dropped in. At least 7-8 of us played at one point or another, and I had a great time. I think 4-5 was the most we had at any one time.
I tried not to be too aggressive and to make myself a target as much as possible, but I admit I was having a bit too much fun flying the Warhawk late in the night.
I hope I didn't scare anybody off, as that wasn't my intent.
For those of you trying to sort out your headsets, I suspect you need to change your speech settings in the Warhawk options menu. I think you might have it set on "push to talk" which is the default.
Murray got his headset working late in the night and probably played for 2-3 hours.
Brianluvdvd (arachnidsting) was on for at least 3 hours (sorry about those grenades)
Chew was on early and played for a few hours
My friend Eric played a good chunk of the night
Another anonymous DVDTalk member played the last 3-4 hours
I saw Cloudvader was online, but maybe just had trouble logging in?
Apologies to I.Flores, who I booted...just a bit too aggressive partner...especially with the split screen...didn't have time to explain at the time
If I'm forgetting someone, sorry...it was hard to keep up toward the end.
Hopefully everybody liked the game, and my hope is that we can grow this into a weekly get-together. I really enjoyed talking with those of you who were able to work out your headsets.
Any thoughts, requests or questions? I'm also interested in hearing what you guys thought and whether you're planning to play next Saturday.

I'm gonna try and join in at some point. Saturdays aren't always the best for me, but I finally downloaded the DLC during the sale to help get me back in the game. Haven't played it in the longest time. Was never very good but still always had a blast playing.

It was tough to tell which of you was which, and I was trying to moderate to some degree.
If it were just you and me playing, you could use mines and cruise missiles all night long, but I'm holding back on that kind of stuff for now. I actually spent a good bit of last night just driving around in a jeep. At one point, I did my level best to take out Chew's plane with my pistol.

chess, thanks for setting it up and going easy, I had fun. I did get the DLC packs via gameshare from a friend, so count me in for those.

Sounds cool, sorry I missed it.
I did go through the tutorials, though... man that warhawk seems tough to fly.

Re: Any interest in a Weekly Warhawk night?
I definitely had a good time but it took me at least an hour to get accustomed to the controls. It's a little strange hitting the bumpers to shoot and throw grenades instead of the triggers.
It also took me near 45 minutes to get the game to work. I have the disc and had not tried it since last November. It made me do an update (1.50) and then install that. Then it went to the game and did another install. Then it would tell me to start the game over but when I did, it just gave me a blank screen. It took me several tries and various deletes to finally get it to work. I guess somehow the update data was getting corrupted everytime I was downloading it or something.
I really liked the speed of the game. You move quickly and going up and down ladders isn't a chore like it is on many games of this sort. It is very similar to Halo in that if you have a machine gun, you have to fill someone with a ton of bullets to take them down. For someone used to the hardcore modes on COD4, it takes a little while to get used to. The planes seem to have a good learning curve but are a lot of fun to zip around in even though I was shot down 90% of the time quite quickly.
The sound design is excellent and the graphics are extremely impressive for a game that is available as a download.
For the new guys like me, you definitely have to go in and mess with the settings. I was chatting forever on my mic and finally figured out that no one was responding to me because they have the mic turned off in your default settings which is bizarre. You also need to change some of the invert controls depending on how you play.
The weapons are really cool and the various ways you can play...by land, run and gun, by air, whatever...sets it apart from a lot of other popular shooters. I likely won't spring for the DLC though since I likely won't put the time into this game it needs to get halfway decent. I just have too much of a back catalog of games to get caught up on.
And yes...chess like to "poop" grenades. And he poops them with great aim unfortunately.
By the way...my cheap headset that came with the game seemed to work perfectly other than chess advising that it was showing up as me talking even when I wasn't. He said that he wasn't getting any background noise from me and everyone there who was talking was coming in loud and clear so that made me happy. It did seem to have a slight delay in talking but I don't think that was due to the headset. If you can find a copy with the headset for cheap, it might be worth your while.

Re: Any interest in a Weekly Warhawk night?
There is a steep learning curve on the Warhawk. I honestly did my best to keep folks out of them last night, but I guess they're just too tempting.

Someone who knows what they are doing can be an absolute nightmare in a Warhawk, but the game's balance is such that any newbie in a missile turret or even a single dude with a rocket launcher (they lock onto tanks and warhawks) can take one down. So when you first start out in competitive games, you learn pretty quickly to just start out on the ground.
The good news is that when you are ready for the Warhawk, it is EXTREMELY fun.
Hope to see you next week!

Re: Any interest in a Weekly Warhawk night?
I'm really planning to leave the DLC out for now. I want to give folks time to learn the basics and learn to use the vehicles in the game proper. The last thing they need is 2 more vehicles and jetpacks! But the good news is that if/when we get to DLC, we'll all be in the same boat, because I hardly know the expansion maps at all other than from the air.

If enough folks start showing up, I'll implement some team death match and capture the flag stuff. Last night was between 2-5 people all night, so that was never really doable.

I just read this and I would be interested in playing as well. I bought the game about a year ago but haven't played it too much. My PSN ID is WhistlerSteve
