This somewhat more official release pegs it as the deal for the week of the 24th:

this great value gets even sweeter for Gold members at 1200 Microsoft Points the week of August 24.
FWIW, Kotaku ran the story with the same misleading information yesterday.

Yeah, I noticed you posted that in the GTA thread but didn't feel the need to mention the upcoming PA Episode 2 news in the XBLA thread? -ohbfrank-

I'm all over the PA2 deal

Yeah, but your link says that the GTA4 deal is next week. It's not the deal next week. It's the deal two weeks from now. Lrn 2 rd, n00b. :P

Yeah, but what I posted is correct for the link I posted. At least I'm consistent with my misinformation.

Would have been nipped in the bud if you cross-posted in all the relevant threads, selfish bastard.

I don't know what to believe any more. I thought I knew you. :(

I think our resident podcaster should test this for us.... Superfro. ;)

I thought I heard that the props only show up in your profile and the dash's friend list thing. But I could, in fact, have been misled.

I think I heard the same thing. Frankly, I'd be really surprised if they showed up in games. I don't see it happening. Especially when you start to think of how touchy licensed stuff can get. I'm sure somebody somewhere would have a litter of puppies if someone would show up in a game with a lightsaber and they didn't get to approve it first and/or give their OK.

Actually though i agree that it is probably a no-go for all the reasons superfro mentioned. It does however seem a shame for 1 vs. 100 when light sabers and cotton swabs would make it a little more humorous.

Nah, I doubt that. The items have been licensed for Avatars. Avatars are used in games, it's a given. Besides, what better form of advertising than to see a stranger in a game using a prop?

But then would people complain that their avatar isn't driving their remote control Warthog in Guitar Hero 5?

The more i think about this the less likely it seems imo.

But you don't have to look far to see other examples. RB1 songs licesed to be used in RB. RB2 comes out and a few of them can't be used. Maybe that's a poor example, but the world of licensing is a crazy one and rarely makes sense. It wouldn't surprise me is all.

I know what you're saying, but I would think that Microsoft would have a little more foresight into the planning, development, and licensing of Avatar Props. Call me optimistic, but I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt here. 1v100 is the only game, however, that I can think of were these would make sense. Either as the 1 or in the pre-game lobby with your party of 4.

I can't think of any other in-game uses of Avatars where the prop would make sense to show up anyway.

How would you be mining gems or shearing sheep in Keflings while waving a light saber or bouncing a basketball? Of course that wouldn't work.

Someone was saying on 360v that the warthog doesn't show up unless you keep on him for more then 10 seconds which seems kind of dumb.

Dumber than spending $4 on a virtual remote control Warthog for your Avatar that you can't even control yourself?

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest

I think unlike the arcade debate over prices the avatars there really is no discussion you are blowing money because you want to and it's not a big deal or it's a waste of money and won't spend money on it.

Looks like Chibul is the first <s>sucker</s> consumer of avatar props on my friend's list this evening. ;)

I have to say, the stormtrooper outfit and the Locust gear look pretty cool.
