I know some people think this only is for memory cards, but knowing MS this will kill these HDDs as well. There has to be a way MS can tell they are not legit. The weird thing about mine is it looks completely real with the 120GB logo and everything. If it wasn't for the Xbox 1 thing and really looking closely at the torx screws I would never have known it was fake. I've thought about emailing the guy that sold it to me, but it probably isn't worth it for $60. You only pay $60 for something that sells for $130 you have to expect something like this. Lesson learned. |

Like you said, paying half-price for something off of eBay or other auction house, you're almost guaranteed to be getting into some shady waters. I was lucky enough to get a legit 120GB drive as a X-Mas present shortly after they were released, so at least I know I'm safe. :) |

it is one thing to purchase
something off eBay or other auction house |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Well, congrats. You all made me so paranoid about the HDD I bought off ebay last fall that I broke out my copy of Halo for the first time in six years. It works, so I guess I'm okay. :D
In other news, I just noticed that there's a new featured area called "Coming Soon". It tells of this week's upcoming XBLA games and some DLC that I think is out already (at least for the PS3) for Dirt. What I found interesting is that a University Collection for the Avatars is coming. Like many of you, I've never been a fan of buying clothes and stuff for an avatar, but if they represent the Big 12 (and keep things reasonable), at least pinata and I will be making purchases there. |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Yeah I popped in Halo 1 & 2 and despite playing 3 other games after that they remain at the top of my recently played list. :(

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
 Looks like the new update will break out the music add-ons to a music store, and allow for previews right there.

Good news for us, but not what Pixy wants since it likely won't clean up the common area on the dash or the website.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I wish they would fix the notifications option. There are some games where i want the achievments to pop up, but I dont want to be constantly notified of who's on Live at the moment. They need to have those two options separated.

1. Friend Notification - on/off 2. Achievement Notification - on/off Then they can lose the "show during videos" option since the above two would cover everything. |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I've got a Microsoft Points card question and figured I should ask here instead of starting a new thread.
I bought a 1600 Points Card last night at Target, the cashier rung it up, I paid and left. This morning I entered the code on my XBox and it told me it was an invalid code. I checked what I had entered against what it said on the card, and it was the same. The card says "This card has no value until activated at the register." Did the cashier need to do anything beside swipe it? |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I've had this happen once. I just went back to Target with the receipt and the card and they swapped it for a new one. When they swipe the card, that is what is supposed to initiate the activation, I do believe.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I decided to try entering it at Xbox.com and it worked there. So maybe my Xbox was just having an off morning. The important thing is I'll be able to play some Abbey Road tonight.

Microsoft Planning Blu-ray Xbox 360 Add-on
It seems Microsoft hasn't given up on adding high-definition disc movie playback to the Xbox 360. In an interview with Gizmodo, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was asked if we'll ever see a Xbox 360 with a built in Blu-ray disc drive. "Well I don't know if we need to put Blu-ray in there—you'll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories," said Ballmer "I think the future of movies is on-demand actually, as opposed to via distribution on physical media. So we're just going to keep driving forward and try to make [Xbox 360] the best overall entertainment experience, and not just gaming." Whoops, looks like this is another case of Steve letting information slip out a little too early. Microsoft quickly tried to cover Ballmer's statement saying, "Our solution for HD quality video on an Xbox 360 is coming this fall with Zune Video and 1080p instant-on HD streaming. As far as our future plans are concerned, we're not ready to comment. Microsoft previously supported the now extinct HD-DVD format by releasing a drive add-on in November 2006. Ballmer earlier this year mispoke during a conference in Chicago, saying a 'new' Xbox 360 was coming next year. He would later retract his statement, telling IGN, "I confused the issue with my poorly chosen words. There is no news in my comments," said Ballmer. |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I still have my HD-dvd thingy hooked in since there's a hand full of HDdvd titles that still aren't out on blu-ray, and the few that are, aren't worth price, I'm looking at you Bourne trilogy...

Yeah... my HD-DVD drive is essentially my Bourne-HD-DVD drive. |

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
Well it loks like Avatar 2 just came out :) Apparently the achievements for Backyard Football can be completed within a 15 minute quarter and they pop up in-game and not at the end like some Madden ones do. Have it on Gamefly and seeing as how there should be a quick turnaround time should get it right away.

yeah I got 1k in about 20minutes...first in the world baby! :)

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
PSA: Microsoft not planning Blu-ray drive for 360 "Today has seen several reports that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has confirmed a Blu-ray drive accessory for the Xbox 360. The purported revelation came from a Gizmodo interview, during which Ballmer said that 360 owners wanting a Blu-ray player could purchase "Blu-ray drives as accessories." Clearing the air, Microsoft's Larry Hryb (a.k.a. Major Nelson) has gone on the record saying that the company has "no plans" for a 360 Blu-ray drive, adding that Ballmer was actually referring to Blu-ray drives for PCs. Hryb reiterates -- as did Ballmer -- that the main push for the Xbox 360 will be streaming media, noting specifically that the upcoming Dashboard update will bring instant 1080p streaming, a feature of the Zune Video Marketplace." |

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
I just got the E 68 error message twice. WTF is E 68? Is this a bad sign that my 360 is gonna die on me? I better not cause i just bought this 360 a few months ago :(
It's now working. I unplugged everything and now it runs fine. |
Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
The e68 error on your Xbox 360 is caused by a hard drive/HDD problem.

Re: The Official Xbox 360 thread - thread hardest
E68 Error Code Explained:
E68: Hard Drive Error - Hard drive not DMA configured: It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it. Also this can be caused by a problem with the fans that make them draw too much power, it can also be caused if you have unnecessary accessories attached to the console like an external fan unit. Attempt to remove unnecessary accessories first, and then necessary components such as the hard drive and USB devices. If you have any case mods you may want to investigate those as well. |

Last.fm is going to be pretty cool as an alternative source for music while I clean. I loved the picture slideshow on The Beatles station.

Last.fm is going to be great for me when I'm working out on the treadmill. Just listened to The Who on the Beatles station.
