Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
I'm swapping my PS3 hard drive tonight. Bought a 320GB. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
Backup the data to an external hdd, swap the PS3 hdd, then restore... It might ask you to format the new hdd before you can restore. Also save a copy of the latest PS3 firmware on a memory card, so that you don't DL it again...
It's more complicated if you change the PS3 altogether though, i.e. the backups don't work on a different PS3 (even if it's a brand new one). You have to relink your PSN account to the new PS3 (which will detach it from the previous PS3). 320gb is not good enough for me anymore :( i have plenty space left (like 40% or so), but still who doesn't want more right? Oh yeah, i did the hdd install for SFIV, it does load faster (duh). |

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
The hard drive install went fine. The screws went unstripped, and I didn't need to do a backup, since I hardly had any game saves on there.

Thus far, my sixty-gigger has been adequate, but it's not going to take many Bioshocks or Devil May Crys for that to change.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
Do you guys not delete game installs after you've finished the game?
|
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
^^ nope... not that i'm lazy or don't care, just that in case i want to play the game again, i don't wanna do the install all over again (MGS4, i can't watch another smoke from Snake). Hell, even if i don't plan to play the game ever again, i still think some guests might (unless it's really really that bad, but then again, why would i buy such game to start with, lol).

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
It doesn't really matter for MGS4 as it does a new install at every chapter.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
In some strange way, the huge PS3 installs have made me really conservative in my PS3 collection. Because I'll usually have to delete the install to have space for the next game, i'm more motivated to trade in or sell my games once I finish or get tired of them. Weird.
I spent all this time deleting stuff to get ready for Killzone 2... and then that game, amazingly, has very little to install. |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
KZ2 is 16MB. I wonder how much RE5 will install?

man, they're so tiny, not even worth the button presses to delete, lol. Seriously, you should keep them, it's like a personal journal of the games you played. There are mainly two kind of files taking up space: 1. Application files 2. User created files you should never delete #2 since they're your fruits of labor, something you can't get back if you delete them w/o spend the same kind of effort again. On the other hand, #1 can always be restored with minimal effort if you have the application. I'm surprised that you don't value game saves as some sort of word/excel/photoshop documents... |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
I keep one save game when I'm done with a game. The main save file after finishing the game. Every other save/check point/auto save gets deleted.
