Actually, i'm glad that i got rid of the 60gb model and "upgraded" to a 320gb PS3 and a slim PS2. The only thing i really really miss is the build in memory card slots, very handy. However, nothing an external hdd can't fix... |

How is using a feature of the system abuse?

I think he means extra wear on the laser.
|
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
Wouldn't it be the same amount of wear whether you're playing a PS2 game or a PS3 game? At any rate, calling it "abuse" is pretty silly. As pinata said, it's a feature of the system, not some crazy hack.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
But Sony would never make a laser that craps out!
I also "abuse" my PS3 by playing DVDs... |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
So the weird thing is today I get two emails stating that UPS is shipping me stuff from Sony. I am expecting an empty box so that I can send my broken unit in for repairs. However, they have two shipments on the way. Supposedly one of them weighs 16 pounds and the other one weighs 4 pounds. Anyone else have this happen or know what to expect? Maybe Santa is coming earlier this year. Or maybe they just stuffed a 15 foot python in the box in an attempt to slowly get rid of all 60gb owners and make that particular unit disappear.

same amount of wear or tear, that's the point! duh... let me put it another way, why the hell you want to wear or tear the PS3 by playing PS2 games anyway? It's not like you don't have a PS2 at this point. The only reason i can see is space or TV input issue. Okay, maybe wireless controller too. |

I hardly played PS2 games on my system but for having shelled out 600 bucks (for each of my two systems) it is nice to have an extra perk or two. However, I use the memory card slots quite a bit and would like to retain them. Also, the newer systems having only 2 usb ports is crappy if you ask me. Sometimes I use three and even four ports at once. I know there are 4 port usb adapters available but who wants to have extra crap connected if it isn't necessary.

My system is in no risk of being abused, "abused", or "abuse"d. We only watch BD and DVD on it. I've only put a few games into the thing and not a single PS3 game yet. Nothing against it (like the Wii, if you're keeping track ;)), it's just that nothing has struck me as need-to-play. Because of that, I never thing about turning the thing on when I'm home even for the all the buzz and talk about some of the PSN games here - like Eden, PJ Monsters, Flower, etc. I need to, but I just haven't... |

Got $150 off from Sony directly with their credit card (iirc) and sold the PS2 to someone for another $50 meaning I was only out $200 or so on the upgrade. Not everyone has or is comfortable dropping a ton of cash on video games. Also, not everyone finds as amazing of deals as you seem to, but we do ok.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
when i first purchased the 60gb, i loved the PS2 feature, since i never got a PS2 in the first place. But as i played more PS3 games, the PS2 games just don't look good anymore (except for God of War I and II). For that reason, i stopped playing PS2 games on the PS3. Then, on the other hand, there are tons of RPGs on the PS2... Not only that gonna do some serious wear and tear to the PS3, but also hogging up the big screen all the time. Hence, got me a slim PS2 for that purpose.
Now that i played even more PS3 games (in addition to BDs), i even stopped watching dvds on the PS3 (just use the dvd player right next to it). I'm aiming at that level 10 ;) |
Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
Is driving your car below the speed limit putting unnecessary wear and tear on the car?
Do you understand your point? :hscratch: Fact is, it is unreasonable for products to break across-the-board through normal use. This isn't only a Sony/PS3 issue as Microsoft's RROD is the most blantant example of this. It is also unreasonable to not do something about widespread problems under warranty than charging a ridiculous $150 repair fee. At least Microsoft eventually (maybe Sony will too, retroactively) manned up to their problems and went above and beyond to ease their customers pains. I'm in the middle of a Logitech nightmare with my Harmony 890 going haywire after 14 months. There are several people on their forums with the same issue after the same amount of time. So, again, it isn't just Sony that I have a problem with here... This is a stupid debate about nothing and miscommunication. |

Simmer down there. I play PS2 games on my PS3 because my PS2 is not in my main entertainment center. My PS3 is conveniently located and can play PS2 discs, so why wouldn't I use it for that? I really don't understand what your point is. The PS3 is not some amazingly fragile device, and I don't see any reason why I shouldn't play PS2 games on it. I'm pretty sure that Sony builds their stuffs well enough to handle it.
For me, i stopped playing PS2 RPGs on the PS3... Long hours of wear and tear, which can be played on a smaller TV and cheaper PS2. |

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
Man, I hope the PS3 isn't that shoddily built that playing PS2 games on it would wear it down. My PS2 lasted me 7 years of constant use before I gifted it away, I barely use my PS3 and it damn well better last just as long, regardless of what I play on it.
Then again, I paid $350 for my 60gb so I guess I can't complain. |

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
I'm really curious to see what is supposed to come. Unless there is some sort of mixup and I'm receiving a four pound box to ship it in and the return is estimated to weigh sixteen pounds. There are two seperate tracking numbers and it was confirmed to me on the phone last night that I'm receiving two packages come sometime tomorrow. We shall see! If it is a python then what should I do to protect myself? I'd take a sloth if Sony is in the mood for giving.

Re: Official PS3 Thread - October 08 edition
i have been abusing my PS3 lately, mad hours... If you play LBP, you know what i'm talking about. So, basically, i don't even have the time to play PS2 (i can't anyway) or watch dvds on it, let along worrying about wears and tears that are not there, lol. I haven't fire up the Wii and Xbox 360 for ages... Now that my RE5CE is shipped from Newegg (probably getting it tomorrow) making things even worse (i might not sleep at all, lol).
