Can someone please tell me what is the current consensus/resolution(?) regarding the issues of Metal Gear Solid 4 freezing on PS3s (and rendering them incapable of playing back any discs)?

I picked up the game for under $30 recently and though I want to play it, remember the threads on this. I looked up the issue again, but I could not find any official resolution or consensus on the issue (I have a 40GB PS3 btw).

Can anyone clue me in on this?

I've definitely heard about PS3 owners that had their consoles stop reading discs. The Playstation forum has many posts about this, but I don't remember MGS4 being the cause.

Thanks for letting me know earlier. I was able to get a trophy rather quickly but there are a bunch that will require a restart since I am already past the point that triggers the trophy. Sucks that it wont go back and give trophies for goals already achieved but I understand why they do it this way.

Glad I did not get a chance to start this yet after purchasing it last week.

I think you're confusing which game was causing a problem. It was GTA4 that was bricking PS3's. I never heard of MGS4 causing that issue.

I got to play both Icebreaker and Pool last night on HOME. I feel lucky.

Still not braving those long lines at the bowling lanes, though.

Is there any chance of a slimmer PS3 coming out soon?
I only ask because I saw it mentioned in a T3 magazine future road map page, where all the other 4 new tech listing are happening soon.
Also, because the current listing for the 80GB Australian model here at work has it marked as discontinued. It's just the standard pack, not bundled with a game or anything, so they could just be radically changing the box contents or somethng drastic enough to warrant a model number change.

Found the original Rainbow Six Vegas on clearance at Target for $15, and Guitar Hero Aerosmith for $12 (game only obviously). Should I buy them?

I might be alone here, but I'll keep talking.

Don't forget that today is PS3 deal day at Amazon, nothing too great so far, Motostorm Pacific Rim for $39.

Also, I just found the demo for Pixeljunk Monsters and love it! I'll be buying it at the online store. Any deals on PS points or however they're called in this new-to-me Sonyland?

We just like hearing you talk to yourself.

Pixeljunk: I finished off the Trophy challenge a couple weeks ago. When I went to my Trophy Collection, it said I still had 5 left! I had to hit up ps3fanboy for a list of the hidden ones (some are mighty easy: "build 10 towers in 30 seconds upon starting the screen")

Amazon: I'm hoping the BD Harryhausen collection is what shows up at the top of the hour.

I finally saw some PSN cards at Target. You might be able to find a coupon or rebate for their online store. I haven't checked but I assume it's possible.

Very sad state of affairs in the Amazon forum about the Harryhausen BD deal:
