How about a nice boxed set then? Some sort of anthology? Why cant they do this?

Live albums just dont cut it. They seem to be stuck in 1976 on this notion.
Maybe they just aren't as concerned with maximizing the amount of money they can make as most other bands are.

It was one of the more fun songs, but I would set your expectations very low.

How's the guitar work out? I know the game looks like ass, but, is it at least fun or more like Rock Band's red-headed cyclops stepsister that lives in the basement?

Here is a brief rundown. Since I bought it, I should probably try to tell you how amazing it is to justify my purchase. It just isn't good.

Pros:

-Covers not an issue and some are awesome. If RB/GH had any sense, they would immediately go after about 15 songs on this game. They are really, really good songs.

-Guitar is seemless. I have a LP and have no issues.

-Tightest timing window of all 3 games.

Cons:

-THE BIGGEST GRIPE...and I am not one of those "FPS gives me motion sickness" gamers, but this game, and for the first time in my gaming life, gives me a headache to play. They made a horrible error in the setup of the chart. Doing a top down approach is really dumb and compounded it by not putting it on the center of the screen. In addition, the bar, playing single player, takes up a small percentage of the screen. You see a lot less of the song coming at you, as in the setup of the other games, and it is just not fun.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions, but I would not buy it. If they would have just copied the look of the other two and use some sort of other shape (like the Christian game uses triangles), this would be a no brainer purchase. But as is, I would not buy it. It is a chore to concentrate and pay attention and I would consider myself a non-motion sickness, elite (FPS) gamer who plays mostly on expert in RB/GH.

So does anyone know anything about Lips? I know it comes with two sparkly light up mics.

I know two (maybe three) awesome things about this game:

1. Mics are wireless! (I hope they work in RB/GH)

2. When playing single player, another person can come into the room, grab the spare mic and shake it, and the game will automatically switch to two player mode.

3. You can plug in an iPod/Zune and play any song that's on there. This is the one I'm most skeptical about. Is it just playing the song and you sing over the top of it with no scoring or pitch or anything? Or do they have some other method. Maybe it pulls at least the lyrics from some database based on your ID3? This feature could be really intriguing for me.

The third is what i am most curious about. If it doesn't give me lyrics, scoring, pitch recognition i might as well just sing over the stereo.

The lips mics should work with RB. The RB manual even mentions mics with built in control buttons.

OK I am a gigantic idiot who didn't read enough about the game.

I did not know all songs were covers.

This is going back to Amazon unopened methinks.

I would return it but not for it being covers. Steve Ouimette (?) did the covers and some are so on point (Pain, Paralyzer) that I think they are originals.

I just listened to a Youtube video of "Walk" and you're right, it is very close. The tricky thing with the covers is not just nailing the performance, but making the instruments actually sound like the record. Pantera has a very distinct sound. The solo was pretty well done.

I really need to hear how they did Pull Me Under, especially considering the real version is in GH:WT. Such a shame - there were a lot of songs I wanted to play on here, like Holy Wars.

Are you going to keep this or trade it back in since it's so disappointing to you? I read the OXM review that stated that the game just feels mathematical and not like RB or GH where you feel a connection to the music.

Mathematical is a good term to describe it.

Because of the soundtrack, no one in the country wanted to like this game more than me. And I am also that guy that bought GH:A and 80's on release day and loved them both. I also keep all GH and RB games and finally sold my PS2 a few months ago that I kept solely for the two GH games that weren't on 360.

But I would not buy this game and I am in the process of selling it. I find the chart layout so annoying that I would not even buy this at $10 regardless of what DLC comes out. It was painful to my eyes to play. I may be in the minority on that, but I have zero interest now to put it back in my 360. But I am glad I killed the curiosity.

No worries. I told you I would and I have no problem laying on the sword. But I would highly, highly suggest to others on here to not buy the game.

If you have to blow money, buy Tiger which is the best next gen sports game I have ever played (it finally passed The Show) or Dead Space which seems to be getting great reviews.

I thought Rock Revolution was pushed back until next year, so I was surprised to read this thread and find out it's in stores now! I'll have to give it a rent because I'm too damn curious... also, I really wish we could get Pain, Paralyzer, Given Up, Last Resort, Diary of Jane and Sk8ter Boi as DLC in Rock Band sometime in the future... I'd be all over those! (I love classic rock but these 'modern' hits are right up my alley - maybe this kind of stuff will be on that mystery Guitar Hero we've just heard rumblings about).

So is there any consensus yet on what those of us who haven't gotten into the genre should do (re: GHWT vs RB2)?

From what I've read the GHWT instruments are better, but the RB2 songs are better. So the best bet is to buy the full GHWT kit, and the just the RB2 disc?

Song selection is subjective, but yes, generally the GH peripherals are of a much higher quality.

I don't think anyone would dispute the superiority of the GH instruments.

If I were you, and you wanted th drum experience as well, I would buy the GHWT bundle and then get the RB 1, RB 2, GH 2, GH 3, and GH A all off of amazon on the cheap.

If you don't want the drums, get the GHWT bundle with guitar only and do the above.

All of the RB and GH games (sans RB 2 and GHWT) are all around $15-20 and are all worth it bigtime to always have access to all of those songs.

If you only can pick one game, get RB 2 because of the superior DLC.
