Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

For some people, a game's value is dependent on price and the genre or subject of a game. $10 or $15 for for parlor games don't hold up for everyone.

For other people, value is whether fingerprints can get on the thing, worrying about blurry upconverted graphics, or importing obscure Japanese games that no one else in the US cares about.

Who said that mainstream games were shit? I simply pointed out that nobody really complains about the price of disc based games. At least not at the CONSTANT and MILITANT rate that people bitch about games ONE SIXTH the price of those. Almost every week in this thread, the exact same person has to be throw a tantrum fit about every fucking XBLA game released and then a couple people have to chime in to agree and then I have to point out how petulant they're all being.

I'll take the safe bet and assume you are referring to me? Put me on ignore then.

see above GBA analogy. You're the one comparing arcade games to Lost and Rock Band.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

I thought that was the point of discussions on forums.

Either way we all spend a good deal of money on games that interest us. For some it is DLC for a couple games. Others it is importing cartridges. Some it might be Master Chief's plastic crotch case. And i suppose other spend theirs on shitty overpriced Arcade titles. To each their own really - but it is a forum where people post instead of working all day every day.

edit: All that being said, when Braid was put on sale this week for 10$ instead of 15$ i picked it up. Obviously, since MSoft is beginning this weekly game sale for Gold members, they do have an idea that pricing things lower will spur sales.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

I see people saying "the game looks cool, but not for $60" quite frequently, or waiting for price drops and sales.

I like connect 4. I will not be buying it for $10.

I would definitely buy it for $5. Make it happen.

Spoiler:
honestly, I'm no business major, but you must get at least double the purchases at $5 than you do at $10

Yep... and let's face it, gaming news is slow this time a year. Hell even the past few weeks of Rock Band DLC has spurred little discussion. What else are we going to talk about instead of work?

I guess I just don't see a lot of bitching or petulant behavior around here. I see people saying that they don't want to spend X dollars on game Y. This whole "argument" over game pricing is really silly. If someone wants to buy the game, great. If not, great. I don't really give a shit and I don't see how it's even an issue.

How awesome Death Tank is? Oh wait, no one bought it because it was too expensive...

Yeah but you are one of those Top 40 plastic instrument crotch case buying fools. We can't take anything you say seriously.

But I did buy Retro Game Challenge, so I should hopefully be able to avoid the wrath of the Downloadable Game Crusaders.

Those prices are set. Disc based games, those which are not Special Editions with bonus content or included peripherals are $60 tops. When they start charging $90 for regular disc-based games, you'll hear me bitch about that as well.

Yeah, c'mon dude, you know full well that downloadable games, good or bad, are far far shorter than retail games - for example, they say that the new GTA download is roughly 1/3 the length of the retail game - it's also 1/3 the price, but you can't sell it back or play it on a friend's console, etc...

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

The only people overreacting here are those who flip out when somebody says "$X.XX is too much for game Y". Everybody else is just stating an opinion that that game is overpriced, and then get jumped on as "cheap" "crotch lovers".

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

It just seems annoying since it seems to outweigh discussion about actual games like a zillion to one. You certainly see the same thing on other forums but it's usually a couple posts here and there while everybody else is actually, ya know, talking about games. That's my main beef with it. People here seem to be far more interested in buying the games they perceive as simply a monetary value over an entertainment value.

Interesting post from the guy who seems to be causing all the problems whenever price is mentioned...

Instead of going on a ridiculous tirade whenever someone says a game is priced too much, why don't you, ya know, just ignore them and talk about the game instead?

Well we could discuss the strategy of Connect Four instead.

Personally i like to put a little widdershins spin on the disc when i drop it into the top. I also always start in one of the two center columns.

How about future DLC instead? 400pts for a Master Chief theme 'board' complete with Master Chief and Arbiter tokens.

It's hard to talk about the games when no one wants to buy them due to the price. If the games are great, people won't bitch as much. Hence the 1200 point "Summer of Arcade" games like SSF2THD, Braid, or Castle Crashers where they were higher priced but less complaining.

I actually tried to get a discussion going on the Scrabble implementation but was shouted down by all the crotch talk.

Exaggerated statistic aside, I agree with you there.
