Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)
Seriously, those 4 Hasbro games should be $10 combined.
Either that or charge us $20-$30 for the channel and add games "to the shelf" over time.

And you know darn well they will have a disc later on that will give you a discount on the things. Of all the games to put on a disc - these would be it.

The Hasbro games could have been free and DVDTalk would have still found something to whine about.
I expect people here to start expecting to be paid to play downloadable games by 2010.

Actually, following the current trend, by 2010 I expect to NOT be paying $20 for an XBLA version of Choplifter.

If I wanted it, sure.
People pay $60 for an interactive advertisement for say, something like Lost, with FAR less complaints here. People are paying $200 to play Top 40 shit with plastic instruments. I don't see where this vendetta against downloadable games comes from, especially seeing as some of the best games this generation are coming from this channel.

Call it whining if you like, but the point of a message board is to express opinions and I have one. Nobody expects games to be free, but we do have expectations -- we expect to have 400 point-quality games for 400 points and 800 point quality games to cost 800 point. Unless there's some $5 surcharge that's just been tacked on to every purchase.

It is Connect Four for heaven's sake. Is there a large population of Connect Four players who own 360s and have been longing for the chance to play online? Aside from Scrabble, which does require a decent amount of knowledge and strategy, most of the standard Ameritrash Hasbro games require about a good 10 minutes of thought over the lifetime of the player. They are simple family fare.
Perhaps on the Wii it would go over a little better due to a larger install base and a base that tends to be a little more casual. My parents might see something like this and snatch it up as a quick impulse purchase. Those of us on the forum who play armchair quarterback and look at each announced release a week before it comes out are obviously not the target for things like this. Hell, i have talked about Connect Four more on the forum this week than i ever have in my entire life up to this point.
Again though, it is the slippery slope. Last generation people said buying the CEs of games for 60$ would invariably lead to a raise in price. It did. Now every other game has a CE that ranges from $70-90+ and it is absurd. It is heading back to the point where i paid 90$ for my MK3 cartridge on the SNES. Crap like that will price me out of the game entirely.

To walk into Toys R Us right now and buy Connect Four, it'll cost you $15. Then good luck finding a regular assortment of people willing to play with you at a moment's notice.
I paid $80 retail for Strider on the Genesis when it first came out. I'd pay $10 for Connect Four that I can play online whenever I get the urge, no sweat.

Connect Four is a game I can play with a paper and pencil for free. This should be packed in with something else, not be a stand alone $10. The idea that we should bend over and pay any price for any game, that a vocal minority in this thread are espousing, is absurd.
On the other hand, Scrabble for only $10. That's a STEAL, so I guess it evens out. I hope they implement the dictionary correctly -- it should not automatically check each word you put down like some computer versions do. Instead, the dictionary should only be used when another player challenges a word.

Anyway, I bought Exit 2 yesterday. My take is : If you liked the first one, you'll like this as well. If you didn't, this will do NOTHING to change your mind. This game looks better and is more vibrant. There are far more puzzles, which is nice and the environments are more interesting. But the core gameplay is exactly the same. Everything that frustrated you about the first game is still here. Victims still whine "I really need a shower!" and "I can't see!" over and over again. Mr ESC still moves slowly and awkwardly. He still moves up and down stairs when he should be passing them by. Personally, I find the pros of ingenious puzzle solving outweigh the frustrations of the control systems and sound effects, but I wouldn't fault anyone who didn't think so. With a few years between the first and second game, you'd think the developers would have improved things more. This is really more of an expansion pack than a true sequel. And BTW : the "story" panels are no better; Mr ESC likes coffee -- we get it.
I also wish the demo contained more challenging puzzles. The few levels chosen are very simplistic and those not familiar with the first game might come away thinking it's some sort of super-simplistic kid's puzzle game when it is anything but simple.

Good points. Plus, I doubt anybody here actually paid full price for their MS points anyway and I'm sure a number of people have already pre-ordered the lavish eXXXtreme Edition Replica Special Master Chief Crotch Casing of Halo 4. So, $100 to get your game CDs in Master Chief's cock is cool but $10 for a digital board game is a crime.

Comparing Connect Four to other board games like Catan, Carcassonne, Lost Cities, Ticket to Ride (all available for 800 points right now) is laughable. I was a sponsor for a board game club at a middle school for three years and a high school for one year and if I had said, "Hey guys! Let's play Connect Four!" i would have been chased out of the room while being pelted with red and black excess checker pieces. They will happily stay for a couple hours after school once a week to play games like Carc, Catan, Ticket to Ride (which the club owns and plays tabletop) but Connect Four would be a diversion for maybe 20 minutes. I can't imagine it would have much staying power on Live.
Then again, maybe they have some awesome Connect Four AI to give everyone a strong single player challenge.

As for Rock Band/Guitar Hero
Either you get it or you don't. I'd say the majority of people out there think it's worth every penny for what you get, which is more than you can say about some of these overpriced arcade games. And top 40 tunes? Try again.
Talk about vendetta.

You are truly one of a kind Pixy. The Lost analogy needs to die though. Talk about beating a dead horse. That game interactive snoozefest's price was cut in half inside a month. Not many people paid full price on that one. It's also a safe bet that those that did also turned around and dumped it, meaning they didn't end up eating $60 either.

We've been over it numerous times. Content that is DRM protected and not guaranteed to work next generation, can't be sold/traded/borrowed, & has no case/manual/physical product does not have the same value as a retail game. It's that simple.

This argument would actually have some weight if we were paying $60 for downloadable games.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)
I'm really missing the leap from "$10 is too much for Connect Four" to "mainstream games are shit". Everybody makes their own personal value judgment before deciding whether to buy something, and it just happens that many people don't think that Connect Four is worth $10, or that Death Tank is worth $15. That doesn't mean that everybody here loves movie and TV tie-in game and hates all downloadable games.
