Well the new PS Plus Freebies are up. Congrats to all of you clever consumers who selected the $7.99 Grow Home to be the free game of the month rather than the $19.99 Armello or Zombie Vikings which receive 30% discounts instead and will now cost $13.99 instead. I salute you all with my new Bionic Arm :

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Okay how about selecting a short single player game with no replayability for you and all of your friends to get for free and play a couple of times instead of a multiplayer board based game that you and all your friends could play together for hours at a time an unlimited amount of times (or you could play against online competition or AI)?

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Nah, not your fault. It's not like this is the first general election where the worst candidate ended up winning.
It might have helped if Armello had a better name and if the trailer wasn't so god-awful |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I don't think the trailer they had on psn even touted any actual gameplay, did it?

^correct

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Had I not voted for Grow Home, I'd have voted for Zombie Vikings.
Absolutely zero interest in or desire to play Armello. |

 Price is inconsequential. Saving $8 on a game you want is better than saving $20 on a game you don't want.
Looking back at my library, it looks like I've only checked out about half of the PS+ games so far on PS4 (and even fewer on PS3 & Vita). I'm more inclined to play the games I pay for first. |
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Did anyone try Grow Home? I couldn't even figure out what I was supposed to do. Wandered around for 10 minutes, got to the big plant thingie, then fell off the cliff into the water a couple times. The controls are WEIRD, and that robot walks like a drunken hobo.
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Yeah. It's fucking awful. Ten minutes gave me a splitting headache. Controls are bad, camera is far worse.
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
It's a ploy by Sony. The reviews for all three games that were part of the vote have been less than stellar. Now Sony can say "see, it's not easy picking games for the IGC, so shut up with your whining".

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Big Playstation 20th Anniverasry sale.
https://farm1.staticflickr.com/648/2...68cbf45a_b.jpg Not sure about the quality of the sale, but at least the quantity is pretty impressive : Spoiler:
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Damn, those Vita sale prices suck.
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Prices are a smidgen better for PS Plus, but yeah nothing too exciting for the Vita.
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Y U no like MGS3, Peace Walker, and Jeanne DArc for under $15 total? Also Capcom Puzzles for $4 for Puzzle Fighter is solid.
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Who the hell buys Vita games? PS+ Free! :D
|
Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Finally got to play Grow Home since I've had my PS4 boxed away while moving stuff for painting and played for about an hour and loving it so far.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
Okay Questyen, you've got to elaborate. I get that the little robot guy is kind of cute but besides that I think the game is dreadful due to weird controls, terrible unintuitive camera and complete lack of clear game directed purpose.
I'm not saying you're wrong for liking it, I simply want to know why you find the game enjoyable. |

I find it funny that you're acting like I'm enjoying some critically panned game also. It has been critically well reviewed and mentioned in early game of the year talks including Giant Bomb back when it was released on PC months ago.

Re: Official PSN Games Thread
I played it for about an hour over the weekend while my kids watched, and I liked it too. Like you said, the controls can be weird feeling at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's actually pretty easy. Using the triggers like you would climbing a rope. It was also nice having the flower available to help control your fall so you don't have to start all the way at the bottom again. We'll probably end up playing some more this weekend.

Critical reception doesn't enter into the picture at all. When it comes to indie games, I usually pay them little mid as they tend to fall over themselves to praise anything different and quirky with a unique art style or some overriding mysterious vibe, often completely ignoring whether it's any fun to actually play. |

I also had no problem with the "directed purpose". As you move forward it tells you exactly what to do. First you are going towards the flashing red exclamation points which acts as a tutorial and as you move along you are explained the purpose of the game which is to "grow home".
