Related to that, God I suck at combat in this game. I'm just a button-masher apparently. Closest I got was 4 or 5 dudes left. Found out the long way that countering doesn't hurt the guys enough to knock them out.

The challenge maps helped with the fighting aspect. Really, it's more like three or four quick button pushes, then timing the button pushes a bit slower. Every hit after the 5x usually knocks the guy you are targeting in the group down - and after the first critical hit, you'll continue to get critical hits (and a 2x multiplier) as long as you keep hitting people.

My latest stats:

Challenges - 0%
Riddles - 236/240
Upgrades - 20/20
Character Bios - 42/42
Completed - 77%

I found the missing teeth (way above the Warden's office) and also finished the Chronicals of Arkham. I'm at 85% - the challenges are a good way to let frustration out thats for sure.

I wasn't really in the mood to play tonight, but there was much else to do so I turned it on and continued on my quest to get all 240 riddles. I got up to 214 before turning it off, and almost 2 hours had past.

Hopefully tomorrow I can finish up the riddles, and finally go and finish up the game, as I've been delaying 'going to the party' while I got the riddles.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

So I finished it tonight and all 240 riddles + the final Arkham thing. Gotta say, the honeymoon is over.

I loved the atmosphere. I loved the story. I loved the game until about 3/4 or so into it. At the end, it was just of "eh, let's just get there". That's probably because...

I suck so bad at the combat. I think I understand what I'm supposed to be doing with all the different moves and what-not, but when there's 6-16 guys around you at once, throw in a couple Titans and it all goes to hell for me. To the point where it's not even fun.

And the challenges are not appealing to me right now. The Predator ones look far and away the best. How in the world are you supposed to get 18k in fighting on those Combat ones? There's one guy on my friends list that has 20k on the first one, I need to find out what he did.

I still highly recommend the game for the story and the "oh shit!" moments. But I would also warn people to temper their expectations for the long-haul. Not much unlike the first time you have sex. Or so I hear...

I looked at the leaderboards and for the life of me I can't figure out how people score that high. I'm going to assume they play the game all day long! Anyone know any tricks for boosting your score?

I found the key to getting past some of the Titan/Henchmen battles was to focus on the titans and let them run over the henchmen. When you are fighting two of them the key is to get on both of their backs at one point and do some real damage.

Just finished the game tonight and I feel the same way (though not because I suck at the combat). The final boss fight was especially lame. I'll probably finish solving all the riddles, but I poked around in the challenges a bit and I don't see myself doing those for very long before getting overly frustrated.

 to how well the Gadgets are implemented in this game. I have all but 1 at this point in the game, but damn have I had fun using them all so far.

That's exactly what I did: I knocked one of the Titan's down, jumped on his back and only attacked the other (ignoring any henchmen). That almost always results in the second Titan going to the ground just as I was about to be thrown off. For several such battles, I spent most of them just going Titan to Titan without taking any damage.

Yep. Exactly how I felt. Sucks cause I was right at that point when I talked about it on our last show. Then doing the last 1/4 of the game I had quite a different opinion. Looking forward to revisiting it again in discussion form.

Well I finally gave in and went through the last door, just beat the game on hard.

Whew, what a ride!

Now to go back and pick up the last few hidden items that I missed, but truth be told, it's only a handful.

I loved it from start to finish.

I want more!!! :D

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

What's the difference between Hard and Normal? Is it just enemy and/or Batman health?

Brent L 09-02-09 01:47 PM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

Enemies take more damage from you, it takes more hits to kill enemies, the "reversal flashes" aren't present above enemies before they hit you, and the bad guys also have slightly improved AI.

I'm not sure if there are any other differences, but playing on hard makes the game that much better because it practically changes how you play the game and forces you to use your head. I thought the demo was way too simple, although I loved it, and the hard setting made it much better for me.

Heck, I wish they had included something above hard, perhaps after beating the game, but oh well.

In my first encounter with them I used the Bane Approach which meant a quick Batarang(tap LT) to blind them while running, and a dodge, then they hit the wall stunned and you either smack'em a few times or mount and have him smack the other Titan.

But I was reading on another forum that there's a

Wow, I just finished finding all of the hidden stuff already. So now the main story is completed, and I've found all of the hidden items there. I haven't even so much as touched any of the challenges yet, so I'm just at 84% overall.

Now to dive into that. :D

I just started playing this game two days ago. I don't think I'm very far yet, as I've only fought 2 or 3 main villains.

I regret buying the Collector's Edition, though. I thought the batarang would be bad-ass... :(

I also thought of Eternal Darkness, but they put enough hints in there that it's not a glitch that I caught on real quick.

DO NOT read unless you have finished the game. You have been warned.

Spoiler:
Thing is, I actually had the game crash on me twice by that point. So when the screen started pixelating out I started to get up to flip it off. That was until I saw the joker driving the batmobile. That was the coolest scene in the entire game IMO

Spoiler:
I actually caught on when I saw the Bat Signal turned upside down to form the mouth of Scarecrow.

After The Joker shot me, I got a message saying I could avoid the gunshot by using the right analog stick to move my head. Did anyone try this, and if so, what happens?

Actually it told you to move the middle stick, which confused me at first because there is no middle stick. I think it was all part of the Joke.

Use the jump/evade button if you've knocked a guy down and there isn't another close you to strike to stay in perpetual motion until you're close to another guy.

If you're hitting a guy or doing the jump/evade maneuver constantly, your combo won't break and you'll get buttloads of points just as long as you don't stop striking, cape stunning or jump/evading (and not getting hit helps as well for the Dark Knight bonus). Varying your attacks (i.e. batarang, cape stun) will also give a decent end round bonus.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

This game is pretty much perfect for me. Quick question: how many of Batman's rogues have those therapy session tapes? At first I thought it was only the Riddler, but now I've run across tapes for Joker and Croc too! I LOVE these things! Normally, I'm not much for "exploring" game worlds, I normally don't give a shit, but this game has me combing over every knock and cranny.

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

I remember Quinn and Scarecrow too.

Brent L 09-03-09 01:01 PM

Re: Batman - Arkham Asylum

All of the "main" villains with major roles in the game have the session tapes scattered around. In addition to Joker, HQ, Croc, Riddler, and Scarecrow there are also tapes for Poison Ivy and Mr. Zsasz as well.

I love the "failure screens" when you play as Joker. :D

They certainly weren't kidding when they said that the Joker challenge levels force you to play entirely differently than you do with Batman.

I wants those so bad. I hope it becomes 360 DLC. Otherwise I might have to rebuy this game if and when I get a new cheaper PS3. About the failure screens, I find myself dying on purpose once or twice when I face a boss to see what they do.

I went back a few pages and did not see this mentioned so here is what I learned yesterday at our Gamestop conference about the game:

-The Joker will NEVER be on 360 :(
-New 360/PS3 challenge map on Sept. 17th for FREE!
-New PS3 challenge map on Sept. 24th for Free.
-Yes, there will be a sequel and 'no comment" with a smile on Robin...

One thing that has consistently made me chuckle while playing this game is that you seem to move faster while crouching/sneaking than you do while upright walk mode. So when I play, I'm in a perpetual crouch.
