Re: The Fallout 3 Thread Of Exploding Teddy Bears
I went through a couple more hours last night. Am I the only one who didn't kill The Family? Based on what I'd heard here, I was expecting to walk into a big fight, but I negotiated my way through it and brokered a truce with the town. So that was a nice surprise.
I also found the Super Market, which was different from my original playthrough. In that one, she sent me to the minefield first. In fact a LOT of stuff was different this playthrough, which was really exciting. I get the impression that you will never get the same game twice in F3...although I'm sure the main story arc remains the same.
I just realized how much the atmosphere in this game reminds me of Half-Life 2. Perhaps part of the reason I'm liking it so much.

I didn't kill the Family either, brokered a nice deal between the two and everyone lived happily ever after!

I did the deal with the family too. Unfortunately, the guard decided to shoot me when I was leaving, so I had to go back and kill them all.
I weeped for a good second or two.

Funny. I actually felt kind of bad for NOT killing them. It's pretty rare that a game gets an emotion other than "COOL!" from me, but I think that was actual regret that I was feeling there.
F'ing love this game.

Just started playing the game and have a quick newb question in regards to sleeping. I just arrived to megaton and was wondering if there was a safe place to sleep? When I enter the public houses that are green so safe for me to enter, when i go to a bed it's red. What happens if you sleep in a bed that shows up red?

I really love listening to the radio, and then you can hear your accomplishments on the 3 dog night radio i think.

While searching for the Family, I had it in my head that I'd find a nest of rabid vampire wannabes that would attack on sight. Instead, it turned out to be just another "town" with surprisingly agreeable people. Heck, the only one I REALLY wanted to kill was Ian! Sick fuck.
I got this other cool item, and I haven't a clue what it does. Something like a "sneak boy"...basically looks like a replacement arm thingie, but it doesn't show up in apparel, so I'm afraid to use it.

I believe it shows up in your Aid section, because it's a one-time use item. It increases your stealth by about 100. Save it for those times when you really feel the need to sneak around.

Question about selling stuff in megaton and the game in general. Does each person sell at different prices? If so who's the best to sell to in megaton?

I think so. And I think it depends on your karma, charisma, and what perks you may have. So different vendors would be selling things at different prices to different people.

I found Point Lookout to be a bit disappointing. It is the first of the DLC for Fallout 3 to have me feeling like I did not get my moneys worth. I would rank them in this order....Broken Steel, The Pitt, Operation Anchorage, and Point Lookout. I really think this should have been 5 bucks or so. It was by FAR the shortest of the DLC, even Operation Anchorage took me longer to finish. I think there might be one or more side quests I have not done yet, and Operation Anchorage really was a linear experience, but this was disappointing. To get all achievements I think it took me maybe 2 hours tops.
That being said, there was one moment, and anyone who has played it knows what I am talking about, that was truly a mind fuck of a moment. Almost made it worth the 10 bucks.

Started, and finished, Point Lookout tonight. Well, I haven't gone around to find all the locations yet, but the main storyline was quite a bit shorter than I expected. Still worth it just for the setting and for the one part that anyone who has played it knows what I'm referring to.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread Of Exploding Teddy Bears
I finally got to play Point Lookout tonight. Spent a good two hours exploring, killing, looting, just having a great time. Then I enter a house or shop or something, I forget. Anyway, I loot the stuff inside, and leave and get a black screen. I can hear the music, but can't see anything. I can also hear the noise it makes when you press the Xbox button to bring up the menu.
So I had to turn it off. I thought no big deal, I have the auto save for when I entered. I turn it back on, and I see my auto save is corrupted. Of course I had forgotten to save it otherwise.
I am pretty pissed right now.

I also spent a bit of time getting one of the repair people there up to 100 repairs. If you want to know how:

I'm not into the DLC yet or anything...obviously...but I'm the same way.
Right now, I'm all about helping the supply lady with her book and am finding 5-6 really cool things every night. Last night I found some Talon guys and the Citadel and a 50s b-movie with fire ants appropriately called "Them".
Awesome.

Question about all the random items you pick up in this game. I'm really afraid of selling something that I'll need later to make a new weapon of whatever is there a good way to know what I should be hanging on to?
For instance do I need pre war money for anything?
Also do you need darts for anything?

Pre-war money is just for selling. No use. The darts are for the Dart Gun, which is excellent at slowing down Deathclaws. Make this weapon ASAP, and save those darts.
A few other things I can think of off the top of my head:
Metro Tickets are good for giving to the guard robots in the subway tunnels. If they scan you and don't find a ticket, they may attack you.
Scorched books are not worth picking up. Same with bent tin cans, ash trays, plates, silverware, etc. However, all this junk can be used as ammo for the Rock-it Launcher.
Railway spikes are good for the Railroad gun. Nothing like pinning someones head on the wall like a trophy.
