After the game ended, I went back to that hard save and tried to go out the door to avoid running the purifier, but both doors are locked. When I loaded the autosave, it was right before I fought the guy, so instead of killing him, I tried running out the door like a screaming little girl, but it says they were locked behind me and cannot be accessed. The only other hard save that I have is from when I was level 3...11 friggin' levels ago.

I really didn't see it coming because when I looked through the achievements via my 360 profile, it has a ton of "complete this level" achievements after the purifier one. Maybe if the purifier achievement said "Finish main storyline and die" I would've caught it.
Wow, 11 levels! I finished last night as well (on purpose) so I could create my evil heavy weapons/melee evil character. I had 155 hard saves.

I am having a bit more fun this time killing everybody. I am only level 3, and just made it to megaton. Having played the game, I don't need to worry about if I should let this person live, in case I need them in the future. yOu cross me, you are done!

Just 2 hard saves?
I save almost every 5 minutes!

I have like 100 saves right now, but because I go and delete some every week.

The game saves itself every time you go out or fast travel, have you tried using one of those saves?

It only keeps one autosave and it sounds like dvdsteve tried the autosave but it was already too late.

Personally, I keep about 6-8 saves at a time.

Yes, but he entered a room which auto saved, and the door he entered is now locked.

He best bet would be to finish the game, and start a new character. I think replying from level 3 on with the same character would be a chore/bore.

I think I'm a 'scourge of humanity' now IIRC.

MAN I'm evil.

I have the max saves it will allow on PS3(however many that is, a bunch) so when I did the level and realized it finished, I went back the the save a few minutes before and now I'm just wandering around playing for enjoyment. I just overwrite the oldest save now.

I always worry about having too many saves, and it was actually a freak thing that my level 3 save was still there. I saw it there forever and thought about deleting it every time I saw it but never did. I always just save over the last hard save that I have, meaning 1 hard save and 1 auto save. I also did this on Dead Space through the 4 playthoughs (all on the same save), but when I started Impossible Mode I kept my Normal save at the 12th level (ending) just in case I did something wrong with getting into impossible mode.

I always worry that if I use too many slots it may start replacing saves. Looks like I start over, *sigh*.

Yeah, the autosave overwrites itself.
I manually save at the end of every session, or when I think I'm in danger (or immediately after getting fully healed/supplied.)
Yay for save-anywhere and multiple save slots.
One subtle improvement F3 over Oblivion is the save, it takes forever to access old saves on Oblivion,it's much faster on Fallout.

Is the RockIt Launcher worth buying the schematics for?

I heard it needs to be used in VATs to compensate for the arcing trajectory.

I didn't actually use any of the custom weapons my first time through. I had enough unique weapons I didn't consider using the built ones.

I am using the Shishkebab occasionally (if the baddies get up that close to me). It's pretty cool, and better than my previous melee weapon (sledgehammer).
OK, I'll save my 1100 caps. I took whatever perk it is that lets you find more ammo and caps and that's working out nicely.

I never use the Rock-It Launcher, but I'e got so many caps that it doesn't matter that I bought it. Plus, I got the achievement for building all weapons. That's got to be worth some caps.

Anyone play with the G.E.C.K Editor that was just released for the PC? Pretty extensive and I am sure a lot of user generated content is gonna be made.

Whew, done ranting.
Thanks for the headsup....Somehow I've just lucked into this quest, and I'm going to avoid doing the next task in it, I want to keep playing. I think I'm almost done with Moira's book, and I've only got half the map uncovered (not sure if the entire map gets uncovered.) I've got four or five other open quests in my questlog.

So what happens to your dog if you tell it to wait for you at the Vault? I went back to Vault 101 (mainly because I was in an area where he could be killed) and he wasn't there... does he take some time, can he get killed on his way there, or is it just a glitch?

Speaking of glitches, I fixed all of the broken pipes in Megaton and couldn't find the water treatment guy after that. I also seem to randomly find dead bodies in Megaton...

The game is much easier once you have your own place. The storage and the free healing are great.

The water treatment plant guy is known to fall over the railing to his death. You can usually find the body below the building.

The explorer perk (got mine at lvl 20) is great for opening up the map and seeing where to go. AFAIK, there's only one bobblehead at a non-special map location.

Spoiler:
Rockville - where apparently the old radio hero's sidekick is lying dead - didn't make the connection until I talked to the old guy later.

LOL! I run right up to them and beat them down with a sledgehammer! It works especially well if you are hidden and get behind them.

That's my plan as well...just be an asshole, smashing skulls in left and right. This being a good guy will get old by level 20 (I'm only level 7 now I think).

I'm level 14, and I'm good karma. It would certainly be fun blowing EVERYONE away and hearing Three Dog talk about me as a threat, but I think being evil can close off some opportunities.
Speaking of which, I'm skimming a faq and the boards at another website that contains faqs for games....I'm dawdling through the game and there's still tons of stuff I've missed or haven't encountered yet. NPCs and items I have never heard of, places I've never been to. The entire side of the map west and north of Vault 101 is dark.
I actually did go ahead and buy the Rockit launcher schematic. I'm finding enough crap on the ground to use as ammo, and while it's not the most powerful weapon, the sound 'chkTHUNK' of a rocket launcher is only matched by the sound of a combat shotgun firing.

Levelling is way too fast. You get entirely too much XP, especially if you're well-rested. I'm only 30 hours in and just by exploring, finishing a few quests, and finishing the first two (three?) main quests I'm halfway to level 16.

This game is like a black hole of time.

I have never played a Fallout game (or Oblivion), so it takes some getting used to, but man is it engrossing. Started at 10 p.m., thought I'd give it a half hour or so, and by the time I left the shopping mart place (after getting the food & medicine & killing every raider in there) it was midnight. Whoa...

Like some one in another forum said: For this game you need a monitor and console in your bathroom, say goodbye to your family and tell them that you'll be back in 100 hours or something like that. Ask them to bring food every 5 hours or something like that.

Usually I get bored around 30-40 hours of a game, but I'm currently 43 hours in, level 16, and still having a great time and still encountering new things and new people. I do think I'm starting to run low on quests, but I still have 2 active ones, one story and one side.
I don't know much about the upcoming DLC, but what i've heard sounds good, plus almost anything that extends this game with "more of the same" is fine by me. Has anyone heard if the level cap will be increased with the DLC?
