So, the reviews I've read weren't clear on this, can anyone clarify? If I want to just pull out my pistol and go on a shooting spree like GTAIV, is that possible in LA Noire? It seems like the answer is no, but I'd like to know for sure...
Game looks good, but the amount of freedom I truly have in the world will determine if I buy this over the weekend or wait for clearance. The police stuff looks cool, but the story doesn't sound as captivating as something like Red Dead, so if I'm really stuck in the role of cop that will hinder replayability for me.

I just hope they don't have too many Betty Draper levels. Even in Lego-ese her whining is intolerable.
After reading about the PS3 version I went to Amazon to switch to it, but it was set as shipping soon. However, they now have the option to "request cancellation." I tried it, didn't take. So now I can refuse the package or just live with it on the 360. I think I'll live with it on the 360.

That said, the talk of PnC style puzzle solving mixed with now-standard action/adventure controls has me excited, hope it's good.

I really hope Rockstar keeps the game alive with DLC, but I'm a HUGE fan of point-and-click adventures, so I'm trading doing the Best Buy pre-order. $10 Reward Zone certificate and $15 gift card make the deal all the more better.

After reading that Giant Bomb blurb, I'm thinking seriously of passing up my Best Buy preorder of the 360 version (and the Midnight launch that I was sort-of dreading) and getting the PS3 version at Kmart instead. I already have $30 in gaming coupons thanks to last week's discretionary spending to lower my purchase price from the $65 it would cost me out-of pocket at BB, and figured there is probably some $19.99 game either my kids or I would like....

Thats cool, I placed my order with Amazon.com using the "Release Day Delivery" at around 1, a little after 430 got the shipping notice.

I ended up pre-ordering through Best Buy. I got $15 instantly and $10 in rewards certificates coming back. I'm doing in-store pickup and I know people who have managed to get in-store bonuses from dumb employees, so if that works, I might be able to get the $10 gift card advertised in the flyer.
All in all, $25-$35 back for a $60 game isn't bad, and the pre-order suit I can probably flip to the morons who pay $30+ for MK character codes.

The only issue with flipping the pre-order is the codes are packaged in the game which means it's not truly a pre-order bonus at B&M stores. For the first coupla weeks, most new purchases will included the pre-order content until stores take a second delivery of inventory.

I'm showing great restraint and sitting this one out on release day. I always buy Rockstar games straight away and haven't regretted it but this one just doesn't sound like it has enough re-playability to warrant a close to full price purchase (no Kmarts in my area). Even though the setting is right up my alley I'm going to wait until it gets super cheap before I jump.

I got a shipping notice from Gamestop today, which caused me to say "huh?!". I had totally forgotten that I had pre-ordered this for the 360 about a year ago from GS when they had that 20% off sale that even worked on pre-orders. Assuming I still get the GS pre-order bonuses, I suppose paying $45 for it isn't too bad - but my intent was to get the PS3 version for free with the Kmart coupons I have plus get the extra $20 game for free as well.
