Sorry if this was already posted, but has there been any word how the GHIV drums will work with Rock Band II? Will the drum pedal be useless if you try to use it on RB? Also the RB drum pads from left to right are red-yellow-blue-green and orange pedal, while GH Pads yellow-red-blue-green-orange. Can you reassign the pads for each drums set?
|
Right, they will work but outcastj is getting at the color order. The GH camp has said they are essentially dumbing down the 5 notes to 4 to work with RB when you connect your drums, so maybe that includes swapping the colors into the correct order. Not sure about the GH drums in RB though.

Case in point: That classic rock 3-pack. Jukebox Hero was already DLC for RB. Peace of Mind came out shortly after in RB. And Any Way You Want It will be on the RB2 disc. Jukebox Hero is a cover in RB. |

Well you could also say GH gave us a No Doubt pack first as well as many other artists and RB is merely following suit. I could have bought B.Y.O.B. in Rock Band, but why waste my money when it's on the GH:WT game disc? Sounds like a silly argument to me.

Mainly just hoping the prices come down to be in line with what RB has, I guess, but I doubt if they will (considering GH3 prices were higher than RB, and obviously didn't include vocal or drum tracks). Yeah, No Doubt is another good example. Probably a good chance we'll end with some of those same songs in the upcoming RB pack. Of course as a cheap consumer, I don't care who had it first, if I can get it cheaper later. But this is coming from somebody who VERY seldom buys games until they've been out a long time and are therefore cheaper. In conclusion: I have no idea WTF I'm really talking about, other than I'm tight. |
I'm not a fan of the GH3 DLC structure and pricing either. As mentioned, you paid more per song/pack than you did for Rock Band DLC even though there was less data (no drums or vocals). You also couldn't buy individual tracks from a pack with GH3 DLC. Combine all of that with the infrequent releases, I think GH3 DLC was kind of crappy. I think the GH guys have to realize that they'll need to step it up with GH:WT to compete with Rock Band.

Holy hell... I had no idea this was coming at all for any game. Apparently GH:WT on the Wii is the first "Pay & Play" WFC game?! Any chance that's just referring to DLC and not the online component?
http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=31238 |
It could very well be related to the DLC. Just thinking though, I know the Wii has nowhere near the online infrastructure of Live or PSN. I wonder if Activision has to shoulder much more burden and is making up for it then...
|
From the maxconsole forums, where I think this guy is correct:
It has nothing to do with paying to play online and your irresponsible journalism is the only reason anyone thinks that. You have no excuse. I and others TOLD you that you were wrong when the logo was first revealed so long ago (before Rock Band). This is simply a way to show which games support paid DLC. Both the PSN and XBOX Live have paid DLC. Rather than force developers to go there to sell add-on tracks to their music games and such, Nintendo had to develop a way to sell the same content without confusing customers... Some games may only use paid DLC with no online multiplayer, so a new logo was needed (the old logo indicated free online multiplayer, sharing, updates, etc). GET IT RIGHT. You will not be paying for anything you once got for free. You will be paying for content you would not have any other way. What's wrong with that? Would you rather not have it at all? This way, Rock Band 2 on Wii will likely have DLC for all the Rock Band 1 tracks that weren't included on the original disc or the Track Pack Vol. 1 disc. It's a WIN for the Wii to finally be able to offer this; not a bad thing. |
As promised, Metallica's latest album Death Magnetic will be coming to to Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, day and date with the albums retail release this Friday, September 12. The album will cost $17.99 for PlayStation 3 or 1440 MS Points for Xbox 360. The album features the ten tracks from the retail album, as well as two versions of the song "Suicide & Redemption" that features extended solos by guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. Additionally, the album will be completely forward compatible with the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour, and there will be no need to re-purchase or download the tracks for the full experience. Is there any looking forward to picking this one up? Produced by Rick Rubin, Death Magnetic is often referred to as a true follow up to Metallica's classic Master of Puppets. Having listened to the new Metallica record in passing, I'm personally resigned to a very old-man-like "meh." Still, this is a pretty nice grab by Activision Blizzard, and should turn a few heads towards their upcoming World Tour. Of course, there's also this quote from MTV Games' Paul DeGooyer regarding Rock Band: "There are a couple of things we've committed to, one of them with Metallica for example. They've reserved the right to give us their first single from their new album for the game." So how's that working out for you, Paul? |

Side note... Man, it's depressing how little there is to talk about in this thread lately. Hopefully we'll see a bunch this week with the impending RB2 launch.
I assume there won't be the ability to purchase individual tracks? |
 Seems par for the course. Follows a dangerous precedent.

It is depressing. But until the game is released I think we have talked about all the rumors as much possible. There isnt much more to say really about what they have revealed and the rumors.
I think we all just want to play the game already so we can really get vocal about its pluses and minuses. The other factor may be that people dont want to hype it up too much. If its nothing radically different than what RB2 is going to offer then it may be underwhelming to many. |

I beg to differ. Even underwhelming news spurs discussion. The current RB2 thread has verifiably 10x the number of posts in the last week than this one does.

Well a certain sequel drops in six days unlike GH:WT which drops in, what, seven weeks?

Its all very odd. Even on their own website they have not revealed what the new guitar will look like or the mic. The drum kit has been up for months.
We all know what the guitar is going to look like. Keeping it a secret this late is just strange. There is nothing HMX can do to counter this late so why all the continued secrecy? |
They put up guitar shots long ago. At least as long as the drums have been known.

Yes have see those shots before, but if you go to the actual WT site, they are still masked. Not sure if its because they are slack on rendering a 3D image or what.
I cant remember if RedOctane has an actual picture of them on their site or not either. |
