It's always been that way - pass X of Y songs in each tier to advance. The harder the difficulty you're playing on, though, the more songs you need to pass IIRC.

 Looks like Activision is getting off their high horse. Rock Band instruments will be compatible with GH:WT! They can't speak for RB2 instruments though, for obvious reasons.

Ah one more kick in the dick for buying the PS3 version - I didn't have a 360 at the time.

Mad Dawg 07-16-08 08:08 AM

While I know that Microsoft's policies are really driving this, and PS3 cross-compatibility will be true measure of how serious Activision wants to be with this, I'm impressed by one thing:

Here's how it'll work. Speaking with Bright after the conference, I found out that the game's five-button drum track, shown above center, will be compressed down to four inputs if a Rock Band drum controller is inserted.
http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/07/xbox-rock-band.html

They are making sure that it actually plays accurately and not just some quick patchwork compatibility. This has saved me considerable cash, although I'll still end up spending on the new RB kit at some point.

Michael Corvin 07-16-08 08:11 AM

Wow. That's cool as shit. I wasn't planning on buying a second set of drums so this is a nice bonus.

I imagine this 'patchwork' won't be for scorehounds though. I assume you would need all 5 notes to max out your scores.

That's a good point, and probably true. I'm certainly fine with that, since I won't be threatening anyone's drum scores regardless of the kit.

My RB guitar works with GH:Aerosmith. I still use my wireless LP though.

Kelkee 07-16-08 10:52 AM

Have they ever officially released a full setlist for any GH version before the release date?

It's usually known about a month or two before release.

Michael Corvin 07-16-08 11:09 AM

Release is in roughly 3 months so we're not that far off. Seems silly to skip an event tailor made for it.

It does seem rather counter-productive to have skipped E3, considering the level of press/hype surrounding the behemoth that is currently music gaming.

That having been said, we only were revealved a full setlist to GH: Aerosmith a few short weeks (or was it something closer to a week) before the actual release of the game. While I realize that GH: World Tour is an event that far and away eclipses the magnitude of Aerosmith, my point is that they do not have a proven track record for proper admission of setlists.

pinata242 07-16-08 11:51 AM

It's also entirely possible they haven't finalized the setlist yet. I'm sure they're constantly working with artists/labels for exclusivity agreements and promises.

I have no doubt they've produced Zep and Beatles tracks and are actively showing it off, even without full masters yet.

As a fallback, you know they have the 85 they would go to print with today should that be the case.

Maybe, but they obviously didn't skip the event... they just didn't release a setlist. I think they prefer to wait until closer to release so they can build hype again. Plus they can tease out the song reveals like they normally do to keep interest up. Personally I'd do it that way if I were in marketing at Activision.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Now they know the entire setlist for RB2 and can adjust / add more names to their setlist since it's still unknown. Doesn't hurt that they have an extra 2 months from release of RB2 as well.

Actually about six weeks. RB is in Sept. GH in Oct.

I can't check the link because Joystiq is blocked at work. Are the Rock Band instruments only compatible with the 360 version? No love for PS3 owners?

The Beatles I could see, but haven't members of Led Zeppelin been pretty adamant about not appearing in music games?

To be adamant about not appearing, one has to be approached. Unless you're just that full of yourself :p

Doesn't mean they aren't still courting them - or haven't already tried.

"C'mon, Mr. Plant. Look at this fucking 12-song Who pack they just put out. You don't want to be upstaged by those Fancy Lads, do ya? Here are some early download numbers. SHIT! Gold mine!"

Read the RB thread. Zep was approached and turned down both companies. Page doesn't want to let the masters out of his hands.

pinata242 07-16-08 01:55 PM

I have read. I just don't think either one of them is taking "no" for an answer. That's also why I had them going after Plant ;)

But I don't think that dilutes my point about them still working on longshots.

Which is silly. Activision or HMX would glady go to Page's own studio and be watched over 24/7 if he is that serious about the masters getting lost or stolen.

The music studio in action:

The music studio is neat. But not everyone knows how to make music much less good music so Im not sure how this will work out long term. Initially there will be all sorts of goofy stuff uploaded. Im afraid that people will get bored with this quickly and not even mess with it.

What will be neat is to see what real artists can do with the studio. If real artists would even be interested.

This is how it was for GH3 and RB1 so I don't see why it would change for GH4 and RB2.

You'll find there aren't many replies for us PS3 GH and RB folk in here. :)

There's going to be a very small group of users who will be able to create good music with this. And people who won't be able to will get tired of this quickly. Reminds me of creating your own plays in Madden. You fool around with it for like 20 minutes, make a crappy play with 5 wide receivers, you get sacked, and you never use it again...
