That would be freaking awesome. I've always held the belief that Reel Big Fish would be a good fit for Guitar Hero since the guitar parts would make for some pretty fun charts.

pinata242's name made me think of the Sponge record "Rotting Pinata" and one of my favorite songs, "Neena Menasha" - a wonderful song that will never be on a game like this because there isn't a lick of popularity or recognition behind it whatsoever.

I find it strange that they only have three buttons on the first row. I wonder if this was a patent issue? Don't most drum sets have 4 in the first row?

Kelkee 05-28-08 10:57 AM

If you put 4 down then you only have 1 raised cymbal. I believe the most realistic setup is the one they chose. Having 2 raised cymbals really gives you a richer experience.

pinata242's name used to be RottingPinata ;)

Fantastic album.

I've been a bit behind on my gaming news and such lately, but I just read the GI article on GHIV. I don't know how I feel about the inclusion of all the new instruments. I haven't played GH3 aside from a few minutes at a buddy's house, but it just didn't feel right to me. I've spent a lot of time with 2, but I'm admittedly not a great "guitarist." My skills more or less top out at the medium level on 2.

I don't really have a lot of interest in the drums or vocal tracks on GHIV, so I don't want to see them lessen the focus on the guitar tracks.

Who knows though... maybe I'm missing the boat on the drums.

Has there been any talk of a new version of RB? or are they just going to keep it going with DLC in the forseeable future ( a smart move, maybe by EA) given the high cost of initial purchase?

Kelkee 05-28-08 01:11 PM

If you dont want the other pieces you will be able to buy just the guitar only package of GH:WT. The guitar has been completely redesigned.

I guess there will be those that don't have any desire to drum or sing along, but for the sheer replay value alone I don't see why if you are a music lover you wouldn't pick up the full band package.

This edition of GH and the popularity of GH alone should crush RB once and for all.
Yeah I said it.

-rolleyes- Come on. Is that necessary? Let's try not to turn the whole GH and RB thing into the same thing as console wars.

GH is shaping up to be a great game, Rock Band is a great game. Leave it at that.

Jeremy517 05-28-08 01:36 PM

It is an even sillier comment when you consider that the developers of Rock Band are the developers of GHI, GHII, and GH 80s.

Dont take it so hard, it was said in jest.

I dont doubt that RB has a place right now in the market. But everytime I walk into a retailer I see stacks and stacks of RB, compared to little if any GH inventory. That doesnt bode well for Harmonix. Activision has trumped them in sales and brand image. If Harmonix dosent come out with something revolutionary (not gimmicky mind you .... REVOLUTIONARY!) they are in trouble.

argh923 05-28-08 02:14 PM

In fairness, they already did come out with something revolutionary...it's that thing that Guitar Hero is ripping off. :)

But...but...their drum kit has FIVE things you can hit! Five is more than four, you know. And the cymbals are raised!

In actuality, although GH3 is like 3 or 4:1 in total sales, RB has been outselling GH3 on at least the 360 for the last 3 or 4 months. I haven't seen the PS3 numbers, which I'm sure are also close, but it's hard (and wrong) to make the case that RB is just lost out there.

GH is absolutely a powerhouse, and all the better for us if they bring it and we have two great band-based rythym games.

Then we are stuck buying based on artist content alone, which sucks.

If I was licensing my music I'd want it everywhere, not exclusive to one or the other.

Exclusivity sucks as I have heard someone else say.

Hardly since from the beginning stages of development this would have been the eventual evolution of any "rock music experience" type game.

You start with the coolest instrument first and then get them hooked.

Activision is the only one, so far, so lock up a band. And they're the only ones to talk about locking up more. Because I think exclusivity sucks, why would I want only one rythym game choice, and for it to be from the company driving exclusivity? Choice is king. And when Activision locks up another act, there will be tons of other bands out there.

I saw you mention that GHIII is your first GH game. You are aware who made the GH and GHII, right?

My only problem with it is the second cymbal is basically a crash cymbal, it won't get used a lot but I suppose it'd be fun to slam down on. I guess they could have one as hi-hat and the other ride, but that'd be awkward too since there's only 1 pedal (killing the point in having a hi-hat specific one). *Shrug* I need to buy myself a electronic kit already.

Oh and to your other comment, yeah they did start with the coolest instrument, which is why the creators of Guitar Hero made Rock Band. Seems kind of silly to have a game called "Guitar Hero" be a band-oriented game, though I suppose they could do a "Guitar Hero Presents..." or something.

Nice. I wondered who the second guy to buy that album was. :)

I have two copys of the album: the one I bought and the one my wife bought before we met. I can't sell the 2nd one because no used CD store will take it :)

See, I think that's bullshit. We should be able to play GHIV with the guitars that we bought for GHII and GHIII. Fuck this mandatory purchase of yet another 1-4 instruments.

I'm pretty sure they said those guitars will be compatible. They're saying you just won't get the full effect because of something that the new guitar has.

Here is some in game footage of GH4. Looks familiar, but less appealing honestly.
