Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
yeah, unless it's a preorder, i would never buy a new game from Gamestop for fear of having an open "new" copy. when i worked at a mom and pop game store in the past, we did the same thing. open a copy of the game to put case on the shelf. whenever someone would buy the new one that was open, i automatically offered them $5 off the price of the game. most times that was enough to satisfy the customer that was concerned about it being opened.

Gamestop hasn't gotten my money in 2+ years.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
I just picked up BBC2 new at gamestop and mine was still sealed.

This, however I no longer work for them so I doubt I'll be playing many games early :(
The fuckers at gamestop wouldn't give me dragon age 2 early today, even though he mentioned he had it in the back. LOWLY BASTARDS! |

Well, this is...interesting: http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/01/g...s-says-its-be/
Well, it looks like GameStop's plans following its acquisition of Impulse and Spawn Labs may be even grander than we had suspected. At an investor conference today, GameStop said flat out that it is "becoming a technology company," and that it does indeed plan to introduce a cloud-based gaming service similar to OnLive as a result of the Spawn Labs acquisition, while Impulse will be used to "compete fiercely" with Steam. But that's just the start of things. According to the Dallas Morning News, GameStop also plans to expand the gaming service to a variety of mobile devices, and it's apparently even entertaining the idea of a GameStop-branded tablet, saying that "if we feel like we could do a better job of making a tablet, we'll do that." Of course, some of that is still quite a ways off, but GameStop will be taking its first steps fairly soon -- it's already showed off a demo of how the service will be integrated into its website (see above, complete with a "try it now" option), and it plans to begin a public beta sometime this year before rolling out the full service early next year. |
Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
If they can support legacy systems in a common house (like that VC and Game Room should have been) along with old DOS/Win/AppleIIe/C64/etc/etc/etc as well as support usb controllers, I might be interested to see what they have to offer.
I don't want a multi-functional "tablet" from GameStop - I want a game player from GameStop. Of course, I can't imagine they'll be able to do anything with licensing on a grand scale when the individual publishers already have avenues for digital distribution of catalog titles. |

I think a Gamestop tablet sounds about as good as the N-Gage. |
Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
A quick GS question-I just bought a new copy of Fallout New Vegas from them for $19.99. It had the slipcover and certainly appears to be new(they got it for me from behind the counter), but it wasn't shrinkwrapped. It just had a circular piece of tape sealing the side of the case where you would open it. Is it typical for GS to sell new titles without the shrinkwrap or did they pawn a used copy off as new? Thanks.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
That's normal for "old" titles. New releases are usually shrinkwrapped.

Thanks for the reply.:) Is there a particular reason why they would remove the shrinkwrap on titles(even if they are "old") that they are selling as new merchandise? |

I tried to pick up Borderlands GOTY last night. No go since the only "new" copy they had was the open copy.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
Since were talking about the sale, heres a shitty story posted at CAG:
Originally Posted by xRemnant View Post I went to a gamestop yesterday and bough Blur for $19.99 and Majin for $14.99. I did not see Mortal Kombat vs D.C. but did see Yakuza 3 for $19.99. Decided to go to a different gamestop to get Mortal Kombat vs D.C. They had it, then by impulse wanted to buy Yakuza 3 and it was $39.98. I told the employee I saw it for $19.99 at such and such store and he took it upon himself to call and ask then. Except he ask them is it on the power saver deal? I told him is a price drop. But he said it was regular price $39.98 so I just decided to not get it. I hand him Mortal Kombat vs D.C. and he immediately (as expected) ask me if I want to reserve Mortal Kombat the new one coming out April 19. I tell him no, he tells me how Mortal Kombat vs D.C. sucks and I should instead put the $9.99 into the new Mortal Kombat. I tell him no thanks. He then proceed to talk about how the creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon? is ashamed of Mortal Kombat vs D.C. then ask his co-worker, "how much would you pay for this?" answer was, "$0.01 cent." Then he ask customers(around 20 in the store, 8ish paying attention), How much would you pay for this? which one proceed to say, "not even $0.01 cent." I tell him I just want to buy it because it has DC personalities in it and my little cousin is a bit fan of that and we not big fans of Mortal Kombat, not to mention I pre-ordered Portal 2 in Amazon. He then decide to say, "You know what the creator of Mortal Kombat would do if he saw this game?" and he tosses the game on the floor. He says he cannot sell me that game, to use the money instead on pre-ordering Mortal Kombat the new one. I ask to switch register to someone who could please. His Co-worker says, "I'm worse than him." They and now a few customers that join continue to pressure me into reserving and buying Mortal Kombat and not buy Mortal Kombat vs D.C. at which point I just had to walk out because there was nothing I could do. They refused to sell me Mortal Kombat vs D.C. and attempted to bully me into pre-ordering Mortal Kombat the new one. While I walk out, A employee says, "He will be back for the real Mortal Kombat."(meaning me). I am very tolerant person so I did not outburst in frustration, however I was extremely pissed off. I drove all the way to the other store I first went too, bough Yakuza 3 there for $19.99 and asked for Mortal Kombat vs D.C. They had one copy used but it was in the back room so that is why I did not see it. I told them my problem with the other store, he apologized on their behalf(which means nothing really but is nice of him) I got my games and left. This is the last time I go to that Gamestop. Unless you enjoy being embarrassed, and bullied into pre-ordering something, or being refused a service because in the employer opinion its not worth buying, I recommend you stay away from it. Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
I always used to tell customers the exact same thing about that shitty game. I didn't toss it on the floor or anything, or make fun of them, but definitely told them to buy something else and wait for the good MK :)

Too bad the corporate side of the company is the worst I have ever had the pleasure of working for :) |
Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII
Frankly the whole story sounds made up. If I was that guy, I would have rained down a shitstorm on those employees. I couldn't give a rats ass what anyone thinks of why I am buying something, It isn't their business.
