Because there are 3× as many Walmarts as Targets. And I'm guessing the average GameStop customer has more in common with Walmart than Target.

I don't understand, however, why Dragon Age: Origins shows as $60 on Walmart.com.

This makes sense, and had is actually mentioned in the article, though any store that competes with Walmart that tries to feed off Walmart foot traffic is asking for trouble.

Wasn't Walmart also experimenting with used games kiosks? Did that also cause Gamestop stock to go down?

And who in the world actually owns stock in Gamestop?

I noticed the other day that Walmart.com sells used games. I must have missed the news about their kiosks.

FYI - their online store now gaurentees bookelet and case. You can use the code CAG16 + edge card to get 26% off of all their online stock every day of the week. Their shipping rates are actually pretty decent too (I think $3 for up to $75 in merchandise).

I don't like buying games at Gamestop OR Walmart OR any place where I have to find somebody and have them retrieve it from a case.

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII

At least at Walmart they retrieve a case that's still sealed instead of an envelope with a game in it.

Just a bump up. Shady practices yet again at Gamestop.

Right now they have a promo where you get 30% credit on top of whatever the value of your Xbox360 game is when you trade it in. Clearly posted on the website. So I go in and trade in Borderlands and COD:MW2 and I get some total, which looks kind of low.

"Um, excuse me, you have a promo right now on your website that gives me 30% extra credit on trade-ins."

I get a blank stare from the clerk. He then adjusts the price accordingly. He didn't apologize, didn't say it was a mistake. Just punched a few things in the computer to change the price. Now, I know this could be an honest mistake, but if it was, he sure didn't act like it. His actions conveyed to me that he essentially got "caught" and fixed the "mistake." It was as if this was one of those things they do under the table to help the bottom line of the store when there are customers that are ignorant of the deals they offer.

I wish there was a better alternative to them in my area, because I would so use them. :(

Too bad bookmans in that area don't give shit for games. If they still exist that is. They were around when I lived in arizona.

There is nothing to type in to get the promo to work, the computer automatically does it. However, the associate must finalize the transaction and go to the payment screen BEFORE any promos kick in. It's kind of a dumb system. At our store, we always disable, then re-enable all promos right away, that tricks the system into thinking it was finalized and shows all the true totals/deals. Long story short, you would have been fine at the end of the transaction, but sounds like the clerk sucks anyways :)

Come to my store...#10 in the company baby!

maybe what you are telling me is true, but the guy had rung up Mass Effect 2, and was telling me that I owed him xxxx amount. Then I brought up the extra trade credit, and he punched something into the computer to get it to reflect a different price.

i just hate all the damn stickers on used and new games. also, putting a new game in a sealed sleeve separate from the case is inane to me. still fingerprints and scuffs on the new game.

with all my recent used and new purchases after getting my 360, mostly used from GS, i will never use them again bc it is such a headache and everything just seems filthy (literally).

Yeah, GS has all the negative attributes of a pawn shop (filthy, disorganized, ramshackle, employees with attitudes, etc.) and none of the positives (cheap prices, convenience).

just for the record Best Buy does that for certain games now. when I bought AC II and MW 2, i had to bring an empty case with just the artwork to the counter and then they had to get it out of a locked compartment.

I went into a Gamestop this evening looking for Rockstar Table Tennis ($5 there) and actually found a nice employee. Once he realized my friend and I were pretty solid gamers and thought the store was a joke, he asked us if we've ever returned a used game and gotten money back. We had, but he confirmed that if you pay in cash and return the game you can get all your cash back. He said it's a good way to essentially play games for free due to their liberal used returns policy.

That's because they can turn around and sell them as new afterward.

Last time I went to GS, the girl working the counter spent the entire time recounting how she hated working there because all the customers needed to get lives because they gave her creepy looks and are obsessed with WoW. I don't play WoW.

My main beef with them is putting the used stickers everywhere on the case. It's bad enough they have one on the front and back of the case, but they put a sticker on the bottom spine of the inside sleeve. Depending on the paper stock used for the sleeve, most of the time you have ruined artwork when you try to remove it, which is why I rarely buy used from them.

Also, I recently found Dirt 2 on clearence at Target for $15. I played it, wasn't my thing, so I brought it to GS. They were only giving $11 credit for it, while it's still selling for $49.99 used. An almost $40 mark up, no wonder they are doing so well as a company. Off to eBay it goes.

Supply and demand....nobody wants Dirt 2, so we lose money by having it sit there. We probably should lower the used cost to like $29.99 or something though, but I'm sure we bought a ton of them at $25-$30, so again we lose money.

I have 5 Gamestop's in an 8 mile radius around my house. The first two are in the mall (one was a former EB), another is by Sam's Club/Wal-Mart, the other by Target, and the other by another Wal-Mart.

The mall stores are generally kind of cool people, but don't know the deals/promos from their asses. The stores by Wal-Mart are the best, they know the deals, they are knowledgeable about the games, etc.

The one by Target is an abomination. Not only do they not know shit, they are rude and unprofessional. One guy came in to ask about a game and was told if he didn't reserve it, he'd be out of luck as no other stores were carrying it.

Are they still doing that stupid bullshit? Opening all the new copies and stashing the actual disc. So what if you are buying the game for someone as a gift? You are going to give them an open fucking game? "Here you go, I know it's open but I swear it's not because I played it, the store sold it to me that way."
Truly one of the dumbest fucking things I have seen in my entire life.

When I worked at a mom and pop game store we had to do that, too. Otherwise you couldn't have product on the shelf, unless it is locked down. I'd always discount the hell out of the last copy of the game, though, since it does suck to get that copy if you are the consumer.
