What about rock singers about refreshing beverages?

Sensible or not?

If we are talking about Gene Simmons, then yes...he knows all. Ozzy, not so much.

Yeah, videogames are a lot more subjective than food.

Benihana is the restaurant equivalent of Bulletstorm.

Looks like they're at it again!

"Hey, remember the free Deus Ex: Human Revolution OnLive code that comes with the retail PC version? If you bought your copy at GameStop, chances are you didn't get the code. It turns out that the retailer decided not to participate in the promotion ... by force.

GameSpy is reporting that GameStop employees received notice yesterday that they were to open new PC copies of Deus Ex and remove the free OnLive token. To repeat: GameStop employees were told to open new copies and remove contents intended to be sold with the game.

A GameStop representative confirmed to GameSpy that the company is removing the tokens, saying, "Square Enix packed the competitor's coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge and we did pull and discard these coupons." Indeed, some of our own commenters claiming to be GameStop employees said the same thing in our post revealing the OnLive promotion yesterday.

Joystiq is currently investigating the issue, including the possible legal implications of tampering with a product and selling it as new."

Gamestop is really walking on thin ice there. They could get really sued for that, and I actually hope they do (and I am not usually down on Gamestop) but that kinda thing is over the line. Terrible, terrible.

Well, I wonder why they didn't remove the Steam codes from PS3 copies of Portal 2.

Wow, that's pretty bad, seriously I don't mind gamestop but they should be sued for this.

Not that I care about PC gaming or the game in question but as a gamer in general I am pretty fucking enraged by this. I deal with Gamestop very little already but I'm sure I can move the 2 preorders I have with them to someone else and then just never give them another thought ever again.

I just read this article, so when I saw this thread bumped I already knew what it was about. But isn't this something that could've been looked into years ago, with shitty Gamestop selling you the "gutted" copy as a new title?

Possibly, but it seems like this is the first case where Gamestop goes out of their way to actually REMOVE something from the game. Doesn't make a huge difference to me. I haven't bought anything from them in years. I usually get my games from Amazon and the occasional Best Buy...

Same. I havent given my business to Gamestop in a few years.

I don't buy used, I don't sell used. Between Amazon, K-Mart, and Best Buy, I have absolutely no use for Gamestop except for the rare retailer exclusive title (not DLC or shit like that). Even those I pre-order and make sure that my copy is unmolested. No one diddles my kids but me!

Kedrix 08-24-11 02:13 PM

Re: GameStop is Vile and Disgusting Part XXVII

Well, I do buy used and I will sell my used games as well (check Half.com under magkick)...but I am going to Gamestop a lot less than I used to. In fact, unless I am just bored the only one I will visit is where my friend is manager. She's (yes...a female Gamestop manager, and she's cute) always been honest and decent with me and that is the only reason I keep going back. But that is the exception, not the norm sadly. Too bad there aren't many mom & pop video game swap shops.

LOL @ Gamestop!

Is this because of Kongregate? or what do they have that competes with OnLive?

Anyways, I really don't care about this. It's all about me. If they have something I want, I'll buy there if I think is the best value for me.

Why woulld anybody buy from Gamestop? How does this company survive with Amazon and Kmart giving FREE money away with just about every single big pre-order?? Gamestop offers a "skin" or "weapon" and people fall for that over $20??

Beats me. I have a friend (mid 30's) who always complains about not having money (yes, sad). Anyway, I tell him about all these deals at Amazon, K-Mart, BB, etc. and he still goes to Gamestop. He probably buys 1-2 big releases a month and cashing in on all these deals would save a ton. I don't get it.

I usually buy from Amazon, but haven't really seen any gift card offers lately. Have they slowed down on doing that?

To be honest, even though I still buy here and there (buy 2 get 1 sales) from Gamestop, I have not done a pre-order from them since Fable 2 I think. Yeah, that long ago. But yeah, the reason why a lot of people don't do Amazon is the whole scary internet argument or convienece factor. The ability to hold it in your hand, etc, etc. I admit, I have bought games in store, I probably would have never bought online because of impulse or price.

People are still scared to put any sort of personal information in an Amazon account too. Heck, my parents only started using Amazon when they realized that the same discs they were buying at BestBuy were 1/2 the price. But honestly, I think the only reason was that they retired to this small town where Best Buy or anything decent was over an hour away.

To tie it all back, I don't understand why people pre-order from Gamestop either, but the only thing that makes sense is conveience and impulse.

I haven’t preordered a game from Gamestop since the limited edition of the first Bioshock for 360. I still don’t understand why someone would actually pay them and walk out of the store with an open product that they bought brand new. Even if they don’t care, it’s the fact that it’s just wrong.

How would you like to buy a brand new car that just got thousands of dollars in body repairs because it got hit while unloading?
