Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Maybe I'm late to the party, but I searched the thread and didn't see anything on this.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170334

Metroid Prime 1 & 2 being ported to Wii. This is potentially very cool news. I loved the Resident Evil 4 port...must've played through it 15-20 times (not exaggerating), and Metroid Prime 3 had terrific controls as well. I'd gladly purchase both MP1 and MP2 again to play them with Wii controls.

Forgive my enthusiasm. I haven't turned on my Wii in a while, and these are the one kind of game that I think the Wii really does well.

There is no US release date as of now, so don't get too excited yet.

If they release them anywhere it will be here. FPS games (and maybe even the Metroid franchise?) don't do terribly well in Japan. Plus they were developed here in the first place.

Or was that not your point?

You'd think so, but the Japanese release date is three weeks from now, with absolutely no mention of a US release date yet. I assume they'll be released here at some point, but hearing nothing about a US release date up to this point is kind of strange.

Hmmm...didn't realize that it was releasing in Japan so soon. Hopefully it sells well enough to keep a release here on their to-do list.

I'd love to go through Tallon again with Wii controls. Such an amazing game.

I'm much more lukewarm about the second for some reason...just didn't have as much fun with that one.

Probably...there's nothing appealing about sitting and recharging.

Still, I think I'd finish it if it had Corruption controls.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

If anyone is even slightly interested in this:

I'd recommend getting it sooner rather than later.

After numerous delays, it finally came out this week and it's already pretty hard to find. Also, even though Amazon has it in stock, GS keeps pushing it's release back and when I checked with a store, they said that (take w/ grain of salt) very few stores, if any, are getting them in, as it's already been discontinued. But even if they're full of it, this does seem like the kind of game that will disappear within a year.

Cool, EA is making another Boom Blox. I liked the first one.

"User-generated levels can also be uploaded online for others to play"...ugh...how many penis shaped towers are we going to get.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Cool about Boom Blox but I haven't gotten through all the puzzles in the first. Stupid OCD making me get 100% on each one.

More new announcements: The Wii-ified versions of Mario Power Tennis and Pikmin will be hitting on March 9th for $29.99 each.

Hmmm... Why did I think Pikmin 1 & 2 were being packaged together?

Mario Tennis with Wii controls sounds interesting...will be keeping an eye out for reviews.

I just noticed Sam & Max is down to $19.99 at Gamestop. Amazon still has SRP at $30, but discounted to $23.

Did anyone ever pick it up?

Word is, that the motion/Wii controls for Mario Tennis are for shit - apparently they're lame tacked on controls that are unresponsive and needlessly frustrating. IOW, don't expect controls like those found in Wii Sports' tennis.

[rant]And what the fuck is up with Nintendo re-packaging old games with lame tacked-on waggle controls? As if the Wii library isn't full of enough 3rd party shovel-ware that there now has to be 1st party shovel-ware. The system's been out long enough where they could've easily made an original Mario tennis from the ground up by now. But no, as if they're not making enough money, they put zero effort into repackaging old shit. I hope this sort of thing really bites them in the ass just so they learn and go back to putting out more original product worthy of their legacy, at a reasonable clip instead of this crap.[/rant]

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Hmm, that sucks. Seems odd if Nintendo couldn't get the controls right for Mario Tennis given the simplicity of something like Wii Sports.

That said, I don't have a problem with them doing this, as in this case it was a natural fit (at least you would think so if it were done right).

I expected no less, but hoped for more.

In some cases, I'm cool with ports. I never played Pikmen, and the pointer seems like a good fit. For the $, I might try it out now. I hoped for RE4 and was blown away by how good it was. Metroid Prime is a welcome port. Okami seemed like a no-brainer, but I didn't like it much...may get the PS2 version at some point.

But point taken. Mario Tennis Wii should already be out. Same for Mario Golf.

It's been $20 at Gamestop/EBgames for some time, but I've been nervous about picking it up based on lackluster reviews, most seem to claim that it's a little buggy/glitchy. I'll probably break down soon and pick it up. Sam & Max Season 2 has already been announced, so it must be selling well enough.

I passed. Steam had Season 1 for $15 at a recent sale so I went with the not so buggy PC versions. I hated the Wii version of Strongbad and will stick with PC on those releases as well. They compress the Wii versions so bad that the voices all sound like they are coming out of a broken speaker.
