Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

You could always do this for < $30: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

I mean, what is it going to cost to get an S-Video cable for the Wii anyway?

Do Wii games display in widescreen if you use S video?

All you need are three y-splitters. You can get them for about $1 each at Wal-mart, Radio Shack, etc.
Something like this:

Nope, only with component.

So those will work with component cables without a hitch? No weird passthrough issues or anything like that?

If those'll let me split the connection then that's my best bet. No widescreen with S-video is a let-down, and this method is pretty damn cheap...

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Warning, though, do not have both devices on at the same time using this method. It would be bad

Spoiler:
Total protonic reversal...

I'm sure you only have to make sure that you don't have both devices on at the same time accidentally.

You're wrong, you can play Wii games in widescreen with both composite and S-Video cables, you just have to make sure widescreen is selected in the video options.

Yahoo has as interesting article on the Wii and its game quality problem (average review score for a Wii game is 65%).

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Ironic that it was the NES and it's licensing approval the helped videogaming get out of the gutter after the Atari. Sure, the Wii is doing great now, but so was the Atari until it's glut of bad games turned people away from videogames. Not saying this will happen again, but for it's long-term, Nintendo definitely needs to implement some better QC on 3rd parties.

If they implemented any QC, it would be an improvement.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Sometimes they are actually a cable where the male end splits into two 6" long cables with the female ends. Hell I might have a few in the basement I can send you.

*edit - Yep... sorta. I have male -> 2 males, but have gold plated adapters on the ends. I'll be glad to help someone out, but they should be readily available at Radio Shack if you ask someone there for a RCA Y-splitter. At least here's is a photo to see what I'm referring to. It was asked earlier, but I am unaware of any signal degradation using this method. If there is any, I would assume it would be minimal at best so it would probably still be worth trying out so you can have both systems hooked up. It's been a while since I've used them, but I don't recall having any issues.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

I picked up Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Kart and Boom Blox today.

I got Boom Blox at Blockbuster where it was on clearance for $27.99 + tax.

You got 3 great games.

Mario Galaxy is easily one of the best games on the system (or any of the current systems), Mario Kart is a lot of fun (and it has a decent online mode) and Boom Blox is a fun little puzzle game except for the levels where you have to pull blocks out of a tower.

$.48 a piece (or cheaper in bulk):

Passthrough issues are debateable. I've tried something similar on the 5.1 analog audio inputs on my receiver. (wanted to connect both my DVD player and my Blu-Ray to the same inputs) I'd get no audio from either unless BOTH devices were turned on. Didn't make much sense to me, but that's how it was.

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Finally picked up a Wii the other day at Circuit City...they had a few in stock at 10% off. I also ordered a set of Wii component cables from Monoprice yesterday, which only set me back $6 shipped. Two great deals so far!

Re: Official Wii thread -Part IX

Just a quick question here : How is it that the Wii and Wii Fit are the two top sellers on Amazon for Videogames every day when I've NEVER seen either available for purchase?

They sell out quickly. I don't know how the ranking is done (volume.....perhaps quickness of sales?) though.

What about this? http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Prod...oduct_id=33927 (there are cheaper variant on Amazon, but I'm not sure what connects to the XBox.)
Would that have some sort of passthrough protection given that it's designed to hook up to multiple systems?
And it may be better quality than stringing along the multiple connections you'll have with splitters.
