It's the Core, sort of. I bought a Premium about a year ago and it hit the RROD literally days after I got it. So I just took it back to Circuit City and they gave me a new one. At that point, I bought the Circuit City warranty. That unit lasted about five months and went RROD in early summer. So I sent it off to Circuit City and they sent me a gift card. Since I still had all the components from my Premium (hard drive, wireless controller, etc.) I just bought the Core at that point.

Manufacture date was November 23, 2006, in case anyone is wondering. Does anyone know whether they are repairing them and sending them back out with the old motherboard/heat sink, or if I'll get the unit back with the same old inferior, prone-to-breaking guts in it?

Who knows? My launch 360 (10/30/05) got the RROD on 12/22/07, I received the same, repaired unit somewhere around 1/11/08, and it was still defective. It wasn't the RROD anymore, but the system would freeze after about 5 min of gameplay, giving me a checkerboard pattern on the screen. Called back to complain, and the agent told me they would just set me up with an exchange instead of a repair. They overnighted me a box, and I sent it back. About a week later I got it back, and it was my original 360 again, not an exchange like they said. This time, the rear USB port didn't work (use it for the HD DVD player), so I called back, and bitched at a supervisor about how unacceptable this is, that I was told I'd receive an exchange rather than a repair, etc. The supervisor agreed that it was unacceptable (then again, he has to say that, doesn't he?), and said that he'll personally make sure its an exchange this time. He also offered me a free wireless controller. I took it, but I also made sure to point out that a controller would be useless if I receive another faulty Xbox.

That's horrible, man! I believe I just saw you online tonight, so it must have died right after I saw you jump online.

I hope you get your new one back ASAP so you can get back to gaming.

Xbox controllers work on the PC, so it wouldn't be completely useless.

Yeah but he'd need to buy a wireless dongle for it.

Yeah -- I jumped online and played literally about 2 minutes of HL2 when the game let out a huge shriek and went checkerboard. I powered down, powered back up, and got the RROD. So I let it sit for 10 minutes and tried again. This time, I got 60 seconds or so of gameplay before the shriek and freeze.

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller with PC Receiver $40 Shipped at Amazon
Posted by CheapyD -

Save $30 on Amazon's bundled Wireless Xbox 360 controller with PC receiver. It's even Mac compatible. I've tested it out with GameTap and it works great.
Thanks, SwissMoose

I just played the Turok demo, and man, what a fucking piece of shit that was.

I mean, I'm pretty forgiving with first-person-shooters, but this thing was just awful. It starts you out in a boring dark cave - there shouldn't be a cave like this in the game at all, but putting it in the demo is that much worse. You just run around in the dark shooting at charging dinos - which is really annoying because not only does it take a lot of shots for them to go down - since they charge at you (no sound direction either, so they'll come at you from behind or the the side with no warning), even if you get off a few shots, they'll still hit you, which is really annoying because they knock you down and blur your vision - this isn't fun.

Getting outside isn't much better - the foliage looks nice, but the frame-rate blows. And then I run out of ammo, with no more ammo around, while I'm getting mauled by a pack of dinos. WTF? Look at the best FPS on the market: Halo, Bioshock, CoD - even on their more difficult settings, you never run out of ammo in those games. Why they allow this in Turok, I have no idea, but it's retarded and makes a lame game that much more lame.

Sounds like the last couple of Turok games in previous generations.

You run out of ammo because they want you to use the knife in the demo. One hit kills.

Maybe on humans, but not the dinos - after about 5 stabs with the knife, the dino just killed me.

But even that's lame - want to see the human that can sustain 5 shots from a shot-gun point blank, but goes down with one knife-stab.

That's great. Thanks for telling me.

In the time you saved can you please read this link on proper usage of plural nouns?

are you telling me "posts" or "times"

sorry, English is not my first language and i never get offended when people correct my mistakes (that's how you learn right?). So it's "times" right? Honestly, i never really understand the plural of "time." And yes, i read through the link you provided, no examples (unless the find function not working).

edited to add another code:

Try those codes. Then if they work, you won't have to keep posting over and over again how your only a Silver member and can't access the new demos. If they don't work let me know and i will pm you one that does.

I personally think it's retarded that you paid over $300-350 for a video game system that your not even trying to get everything out of it that you can. But hey, that's me. I'm sure being cheap has its advantages.

Raptors are one hit kills as well. You have to get close enough to trigger the 'kill' animation.

thanks... i saw the codes and i stated that i have a few of those codes as well. Not interested, but thanks. Call me an odd ball My reason is simple, don't wanna input the codes just for a demo (waiting for it available is a better option, aside from being lazy). Also, while i'm on-line, it's not like i'm browsing the demo all the times (or time? i'm not sure, please explain), i check other stuffs. At this point of time (correct usage i believe), i just want to know how long it takes the demo to be available for silver members (nobody here cares, since you guys/gals are all gold), but i care, because i'm into the little things...

Well, same here, i personally think people are retarded to pay $30-$50 a year just to be able to DL demos. There's a difference between paying extra to go to the extra mile and getting $300-$350 worth of goodies out of the box, kickerofelves. It does make the purchaser cheap, but far from retarded...

Guess it's time to take advantage of the ignore feature.
