http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/new...hp?story=15858 October 15, 2007 Pachter: Xbox 360 To Outsell Wii In September In his latest notes to investors, Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter has predicted a 47 percent rise in overall sales for the month of September, driven primarily by Halo 3, which also leads to expectations that the Xbox 360 will outsell the Wii. Pachter suggests that video game sales will reach $655 million, up from last year's $445 million. $200 million is predicted to have come from Halo 3 alone. Pachter predicts $530 million of that figure will be games sold for next-gen game platforms, and $125 million will be current-gen. Apart from Halo, Pachter expects The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Heavenly Sword, and Stranglehold to be top new sellers, as well as continued strong sales of Madden NFL 08, Wii Play, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Guitar Hero. Looking at the hardware breakdown, Pachter, now officially partnering with fantasy video game prediction market simExchange, has offered platform by platform estimations from both: Wedbush: Xbox 360 - 450,000 DS - 430,000 Wii - 425,000 PSP - 252,000 PS2 - 220,000 PS3 - 150,000 GBA - 65,000 simExchange: DS - 493,000 Wii - 481,000 Xbox 360 - 400,000 PSP - 283,000 PS3 - 165,000 "Our forecasts for the Wii and the DS reflect our belief that supplies remain somewhat constrained," explained Pachter, "particularly for the Wii... Our Xbox 360 forecast (up from 277,000 units last month) reflects an expected boost in hardware sales due to the introduction of Halo 3." Citing a number of the recent bundles and price cuts -- expected cuts for the 80GB PS3 and a new 40GB model, a cut for the PS2 to $99, and the recent Xbox 360 bundle with Forza and Marvel Ultimate Alliance -- Pachter concludes with optimism about software and hardware sales through the end of the season. Noting that "Nintendo remains the least promotional of the three hardware manufacturers due to the strength of its Wii, with demand expected to outstrip supply well into next year," Pachter says that "should hardware sales trend much higher for the balance of the year, we are prepared to revise our 19% sales growth estimate upward." POSTED: 06.43AM PST, 10/15/07 - Brandon Boyer Actual figures will be released in a couple of days. Chris |

And did you get a package with the two free games?
|
I'm just about to buy a 360 as well. An Elite with the holiday bundle is a good enough deal to finally convince me (although I'm worried about either a price drop or some sort of special offer at a store right after I buy it). I guess my question is, should I just bite the bullet and buy one now or wait a few more weeks for a deal that may or may not come? I don't usually buy extended warranties but I think that Best Buy's PRP would be a good investment whenever I do get around to buying it.
Since I'll be buying a 360 in the near future, I planned on taking advantage of the Toys R Us buy 2 get 1 offer. Suggestions for which 3 games I should get? I'm leaning towards The Orange Box, Halo 3, and Dirt. |

Then again, that would put you with 3 shooters. |
You might want to consider Stranglehold. It's a shooter also but in third person and has doves.
|
I think your 3 choices are pretty darn good. Bioshock is a GREAT game also, although once I beat it I lost interest in it. Dirt was cool, but I'm just not a fan of the game.
|
I'd say get the newest games you can get...you're looking at $40 per game (if you get 3 $60 games) before tax (about $43 per A/T for me), and most games that are a couple months old you can get at half.com for less than that. Bioshock can be had for about $40 shipped (used, of course, but out of 5 or 6 games bought used from half.com, they've all been like new for me) - http://product.half.ebay.com/BioShoc...oQQprZ59001263

Bioshock is a fantastic FPS. In terms of single-player experience, it's probably the best FPS there is. If you like Japanese-style RPGs, both Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata are great. Viva Pinata is a really fun sandbox game like nothing else. The closest analogy I can think of is SimCity, except instead of building and managing a city, you're building and managing a pinata ranch. |

It's definately an enviable position to have made your pruchase within a month of BF. |

Elite is cool, but the Pro I got have HDMI so i'm down with that. I like the Elite's color (black) and 120gb HDD. But aside from those two, i don't see any other reasons to pay $100 more. |

I'm leaning towards The Orange Box, Halo 3, and Dirt. why wait for Black Friday? :) I don't think you'll see something like the FRY deal this holiday. I'm gonna get Halo 3, Eternal Sonata and I don't know yet... Ha, i don't even have Gears of War yet, Lost Planet... Well, put it this way, i'm overloaded with choices, hell, overloaded with the games i current have! |
Decker, good tips on the BF PMing... well, i guess that really depends how much you can save by doing all that "work." To me, it's a lot of pain in the ass, i rather pay extra than doing all the PM talking (unless the amount if greater than $50, but with taxes and shit, it gotta be like $100 for me to do it).
BFs are great, but getting on lines and waiting cost more moola than sleeping few extra hours. |
As tempting as this new bundle is, and the forthcoming BF deals will be, i think I'm just going to hold onto my launch premium until it craps out.
I bought it at Costco, so will just return it to them at the breaking point and get whatever bundle Costco has at that time. I'm hoping that my unit holds up until 65ns 120 gig units with nice software bundles are at Costco. |
I had extra copy Halo 3 & Bioshock (Displayed Copy) If anyone wanted it ... $45each shipped :)

If you buy it from BB or CC within that time frame and it turns out that someone has a sweet BF deal on the 360 (and you can be pretty sure someone will), you can get them to PM that deal. I know people have said that they won't PM BF deals, but they have a well-defined PM policy and there is no BF exclusion in it. If you're within the 30 day period and they try that shit with you, you can threaten to return the console, which they really wouldn't want.
