Personally though, i'm a Penny Arcade guy.

edit: ok, it looks to be standard animation and you have to subscribe monthly or yearly to watch the thing... i mean the hell - no thanks.
Yeah -- standard animation with a subscription. The subscription price isn't unreasonable -- I think it's just a couple of bucks per episode -- but it's definitely not free.

I think there's been some talk of doing a DVD release when he has a "season" worth of episodes.

I guess the Red vs. Blue method is seems friendlier to me. New episode is available free as well as a random episode from the back catalog (although i think Red v Blue doesn't make them random i think they slowly go in order). You can also subscribe to their service as a supporter to get continuous access to all their archives (i believe even at a higher resolution). That seems fair to me.

Charging to even see a single episode just seems a little garbage to me. Then again, maybe i'm spoiled by the Youtube age where so much video is available free.

Oh, I definitely agree. I haven't bothered to pay for the PvP animation because, like you say, there's so much good stuff for free (including the PvP strip) that why should I bother to pay for it?

That said, if and when they release a DVD, I'll consider buying it (just like I've bought the hardcopy collections of a couple of web-comics).

Yep. I have the first two Penny Arcade collection books. I also have the first Order of the Stick Book as well as 1 season of Red vs. Blue on DVD.

I do need to get the last Penny Arcade book that has been released as well as i kind of want to buy the Broken Saints DVD. Paying to watch the stuff online though bugs me.

It's interesting that Speedy's thread for CC and Target don't mention a price cut. I'm leaning toward hoax on this.

Games in the game drive. HD-DVD, DVD or CDs in the HD-DVD drive.

Someone on CAG pointed out Madden in the ad. Madden '08 comes out on the 14th. Speedy doesn't have them posted that far in advance does he?

Another CAGer says that the TRU ad for the week of 8/12 shows the price drop also. No scan yet.

This guy received a ton of conflicting info from various annoyed Walmart managers/employees. The Walmart email help line told him that the price drop will be $250 Core, $350 Premium, $400 Elite. But with all of his conflicting info, who knows.

Once the price drop happens and 65ns elites are confirmed; I'll upgrade, port my HD over, and return my 360 to Costco.

I was really hoping for a $199 core, I would have put that one in my bedroom so I wouldn't have to disconnect from the theater room if I wanted to play upstairs.

I'm actually surprised he got as much validation as he did.
Maybe it's different for other companies, but in my company, if I say "Hey, we're dropping the price 12% next week", and it wasn't in an official press release or something, I'd most likely get fired.
Anyway, if it's true and the Elite drops to 399, I'll definitely be interested. Of course that also means there probably won't be any bundle deals or specials in the near future either....

Based on that post, the Core wouldn't see a price drop? That's a little odd, I would think they'd drop that one as well, either to move them off the shelves or to get more of the impulse purchase of people who don't plan to go online. Unless they don't really care if people buy the Core, and they want people to upgrade "it's only 50/100 bucks more" to the Premium or Elite.

It is real, at least for Premium. I assume Core and Elite will drop as well. Pic courtesy of CAG.

anyone have any luck with the CC $20 off sale? The website doesn't give the discount on the 19.99 point cards (only on the $50 cards), and the stores in my area have none on the shelf.

edit: the CC employee was worng, they are eligible, just no one has them in stock

achau9598,

I originally posted this in the circuit city topic in bargains:

I was at my circuit city 1 minute after the store opened and someone had already snatched up the two 1600 points cards they had in-stock. The manager would only special order 4 (company policy according to him, was to special order only 5 items at a time). It took them about 30 minutes to figure out how to do the order.

Afterwards I went to best buy and they had a whole peg-full of them, I'm not trying to be too greedy, so I got them to price-match 4 of them. It was my first time price-matching at best buy and it took them all of 3 minutes to figure out how to price-match an ad that wasn't even theirs.

I just purchased four 1600 points cards this morning for $40, so the CC sale is valid. I hope to pick up more later.

I bought two 1600 point cards this AM for $19.99 + tax, though it didn't ring up; they PMed it without difficulty. I had also ordered another two online for $40, hoping to PM the ad. As it turns out, I had already bought their last cards so they gave me a 4000 point card for $25 instead. Good deals, indeed
