I've never gotten shit and I'm on my third. I think you are ahead of the game with a controller and Live cards.

On my first (and only send-in) I received a month of Live.

Are they actually fixing the consoles or are they sending out different units?

I don't understand why this takes so long - they should have a team that does nothing but fix consoles that come in and another team that does nothing but send out those fixed consoles. In fact, a fixed console should ship as soon as they confirm you sent your broken one in.

Or is that what's happening? I am hoping beyond hope I don't red-ring, because waiting for a month to get it back is the kind of shit that makes me think about just buying a new console instead.

Unlike earlier, you get the same one back that you sent in. Thus you have to wait for it to be fixed.

Not true in my case.

MS received my RROD'd 360 on July 6. I received back a refurb on July 26th (yesterday).

They had my console for about 17 calender days before shipping me a refurb. My guess is that they don't have enough "fixed" consoles and thus the wait. They are not fixing yours while you wait, but you are waiting for others to be fixed.

They said they would switch over my warranty to the new serial, but are they usually on the ball with this?

They probably do. But they cannot keep up.

When every console you have sold (10 million) are defective and thousands being sent in weekly for repair, it's going to be nearly impossible to keep up. I'm surprised the delay is only a month...

I believe I'm getting a refurb also....my serial number changed online. I'll know Tuesday supposedly.

I sent mine in two months ago. After about a month and one week I called in to see what was going on. After an hour, yes 1 whole hour, of being on hold waiting. I got tiffed and asked them a bunch of questions. One being where the hell is my xbox? and the second being, why the hell is it taking so long?

Through the course of the conversation I was informed that they don't actually fix the xbox you send in. They take one that has already been repaired and send it back to you. I asked why it took a month and one week to walk up to a shelf, grab an xbox and chuck it in the box. They said it was held up due to them having to transfer serial number registration. Ensure the old box wasn't tampered with, and make sure the new box works. A lame excuse yes, but when I finally did get mine back they put a little note in there that basically said "hey we took almost two months to get this job done when we only told you it would take ten days. What happened was we threw this refurbished xbox in this box here and took your old one. . . here is a a free month of live".

They should just send everyone who RRoDs a new Core system.

Do all refurbs come back with stickers on the drive and IR window?

My replacement had the protective stickers and I'm really hoping I didn't get sent a "new" system, because I hope whatever modifications they have made will fix the problem. Hopefully they just put the stickers on the refurbs as well.

Except you would have to go through the same process in 6 months (or less -- when the new system craps out). I just want a system that won't break and it still isn't clear if the "new" systems today are going to be stable.

And really, if they sent "new" systems, the manufacture dates would just as likely be in 2006 versus a 2007 (potentially problem-free) one.

Oh I understand. I would just prefer a new system sent out the day they received my broken version rather than waiting a month.

And the LEAST they could do would be offer overnight shipping both ways. It's ridiculous to have a week+ turnaround just in the shipping.

My current one had the stickers which led me to believe it was new. The system was immaculate and had a manufacture date not to far removed from when I sent it in. This was last Oct.

I was being sarcastic. If it meant a problem free 360, I would too.

PvP Comes to the XBOX 360

Our big announcement at San Diego this year has been something I’ve been dying to tell you guys. It’s been in the works for a while now but we can finally spill the beans: PvP will be coming to your XBOX via the XBOX LIVE MARKETPLACE.

In a couple of months, you’ll be able to spend your Microsoft points on PvP gamer tag avatars, blades and backgrounds. More importantly, you’ll be able to purchase and download episodes of PvP: The Series to watch on your HDTV.

I want to personally thank Kris and the guys at Blind Ferret (Randy, Ryan and all our animators) for putting everything into this series. The fact that XBOX saw it and wanted it means we’re doing something right and all of our hard work and risk is paying off.

And the biggest thanks is to you guys who have subscribed and supported this series. It was AMAZING yesterday to sit in a room of 300 people and watch YOU watch the episodes. We never get to SEE you react to our work. It was a thrill for us.

So sit tight. Soon your Guitar Hero stats can have a picture of Skull next to it. Personally, I can’t wait to get my DAD on the FREAKING XBOX!!!!

Meh. I'd prefer Alien Loves Predator.

I used to read the comic but didn't even know there was a "show" of some sort. Is it machinima? Standard animation?

Personally though, i'm a Penny Arcade guy.

edit: ok, it looks to be standard animation and you have to subscribe monthly or yearly to watch the thing... i mean the hell - no thanks.

edit: Actually - once I get my 360 back I'll pony this baby up as a prize for a tournament of some sort...Bomberman, Catan, Texas Hold em. hmmm...I'll have to sleep on this one. Anyone interested in doing that?

While i had Viva Piņata and wouldn't be that interested in the prize i would be all about any DVDTalk tournaments that can be run. Bomberman would be nice because it has a tournament setting built into the thing.

PvP is an online comic that is about video games, role-playing, comic books etc. It is pretty funny but i still prefer Penny Arcade for video game humor and Order of the Stick for role-playing humor.

Yeah, I've got VP already - love it. Need to get back into it I think. Maybe i'll start a new garden in the fall.

Well - then whoever wins the game can trade it on the forum or at EB or something.
