If they make it an option (like they did with the "boot to dashboard/boot to game" in a previous update), then everyone will be happy.

you leave your xbox on for days? If you turn off your xbox, the tray will close and shut off without playing your game.

I dont want to be argumentative, Im just trying to understand the inconvenience.

Really? You know what you're going to play three days from now? I'm primarily gaming on the Wii now, and even though I only have about 7 games, it's even odds as to whether it will be RE or MP8. I leave the last game I was playing, in the console--if I want to play it next, it'll be there, if not, I have to exchange it anyway.
That said, I wouldn't mind having it as an option, I guess that's kinda what the Wii does, since it doesn't load the game itself till you select that channel. It hasn't really mattered much until this generation, about the only thing you did at the "home" screen was manage memory or settings, but each of this gen's consoles is trying to offer more of a "hub"/multimedia environment.

I pretty much have only played one 360 game extensively, Oblivion. So when I occasionally check out another game, when I'm done I know what will be next. (Except for a few weeks with Gears, and a possible upcoming binge on Dead Rising.)

No I don't, and yes I know, use that feature all the time in the xbox and other disc players. Love it.
The inconvenience is that we don't want it to autolaunch. We put the disc in because we know that is the next game we'll play, but there are tons of other things we may want to do on the 360 before we play that game.

Sorry, I know we're putting way too much effort into explaining this, just trying to make myself clear.

And obviously we are not that rare, if Microsoft is actually considering making this change.

Well the update does more harm than good.

Downloaded the update. Now my 360 doesn't know what disc I have in it unless I eject it and then reinsert it.

Count me in among those who wished it didn't autolaunch. Many times i will switch to a single player game and then think it would be a good time to do some background downloads. I then have to exit out because i can't stop the bootup. Or i throw a game in and someone sends me a message or i want to do one last check of what my friends are playing before i spend time on my shitty Spiderman 3 Gamefly rental.

I'm with you guys, I want the option to not autolaunch. Leaving the tray open is dangerous with a two year old running around the house.

I guess I didn't imagine that then. I downloaded a few things today after the update and right as I was shutting down the system I noticed it said something like "play game" or something and not saying what game I had in the drive.

Same here with the reverting back to "play disc" option, which appears to be a universal problem with this update. And I could be wrong, but my 360 certainly seems slower (booting up and some load times seem a lot longer) once this update was applied.

No steps forward, two steps back...

It's worth a purchase. I liked it more than the Wii version.
Golden Axe on the 360 looked slightly better than the Wii version, but I remember the arcade version looking and playing a whole lot better.

After I updated and shut down... the next time I tried to boot up, first my controller couldn't sync, and then when I hit the power button on the console it started up for about a second and shut down.

It works fine now, but ya, I too am having problems with the console reading the disk unless I eject it first.

Would it be possible for The Simpsons arcade game to ever be made available on XBLA?

It's possible, but if they were going to do it, you'd think they would have done it in conjunction with the movie release.

Back in November I was on the fence about ever buying a 360. It was visiting a friend that had a 360 and seeing all the cool old arcade games that I could download that convinced me to buy one. I have purchased 47 of the arcade games, but the last months game releases have sucked big time. And, the list of games that were released to finish the summer makes me think they either don't care or aren't trying.

Oh well, at least they finally put up season 5 of Aqua Teen Hunger Force on the TV download side. The Boost Mobile episode is my favorite.

For those that have an Elite or know the answer, is it possible to have an HDMI cable and VGA cable attached to the Elite at the same time?

Reason I ask is I have the pc near the tv and if the tv is occupied, I have no problem playing on my lcd monitor instead.

The Stranglehold demo is up (1.28 gigs).

IGN wrote some impressions on the demo:

This game is looking like it might be a surprise hit.

4 was just a toned down version of the 6 player wasn't it?

I can't remember, but I think I saw 4 before 6. Either way, they both existed and it would just be a matter of performance which XBL could support. TMNT had a bit of a lag last week when Pixy, Gramps, and DVDChris played.

I'm fairly certain the 4 player was just a cheaper (for the arcade) version of the 6 player, along with being smaller, but I think the games were identical.
