Re: Resident Evil 5

RE4 controls worked for me on the gamecube. I think they'd work fine here too - IF I had some time/space to get used to them - rather than the moshpit they stick you in first thing.

Re: Resident Evil 5

I played the demo and I'm just too spoiled by other games.

Too Slow -- I mean if I'm creeping around a scary mansion that's one thing... if I'm out in the open sun light I want to be able to move my ass.

Ammo & Guns -- I have to select my ammo and then "combine" it with my gun... as Will Smith might say "Aww Hell Naw"

Herbs & Life Meter -- It would be really nice if health regenerated over time... but it's Resident Evil.

Aiming & Controls -- Yeah, it sucks but you get used to it. However, I don't get how to kill the zombies. Meaning I could shoot them in the head 4 times before they go down. I could also shoot them 4 times in the arm and they'll go down. Uhh...

Graphics -- Freakin' amazing! Some of the best I've seen on the console.

Press X -- Cool options like the Hook Punch or Face Stomp are pretty badass... I'm sure they'll be a lot more

Overall, this game is for Resident Evil fans. I want to be able to move at a decent pace. I don't want to worry about ammo. I want my health to regenerate between kills. I want to be able to use cover and hide and fire. I'm sure this game will get great reviews and will be on top 10 lists but it's not for me. If I want to kill zombies I'll play Left 4 Dead.

The zombies went down easily for me. I even got one GOW type exploding headshot.

The games controls need to leave 1996 and control like Gears of War or something. Then the game would be playable and fun!

1. It's the same speed/pace as RE4. If you liked RE4, you'll like this, if not, you won't.

2. I didn't have to combine my ammo. I did have to select my gun, which kid of sucks since battle was still going on around me. But not sure what you meant about combining ammo. Unless you're talking about a manual reload.

3. This isn't Call of Duty. You can't duck behind something and regenerate. You never could in RE games. It'd be too easy if your health regenerated.

4. My aim was a bit off at first, but the more you play, the easier it is to headshot.

5. I agree. I especially liked shooting a zombie and having it fly through a door, tearing it apart.

6. I agree here, too. They had those in RE4, but I think there's more this time. Also, I think you can use them more often.

7. Sounds like you want to play Gears of War, Halo, and CoD

When you think of zombies, this is the first series that should be brought up. This series defined the zombie gaming genre. Left 4 Dead is cool, Nazi Zombies on CoD are cool, Dead Rising is cool, but this series is the King.

I've been a RE fan since the original came out on PS1, and the RE5 demo disappointed me. I'll probably still pick it up, as I've purchased every RE game that has come out for a system I owned (the gun games excluded).

Some of the comments here seem to echo some of my earlier thoughts. TheBigDave has it exactly right in that this the worst kind of demo, one that actually turns off players that might have otherwise bought it sight unseen. I'm going to hold out a bit of cautious optimism that these levels don't accurately represent the game as a whole... because IMO this demo manages to be a deadly combination of dull and difficult. When I die in a game I should be motivated to instantly jump back in and try again. I just wasn't that excited to do that with this one. I felt like giving up not out of frustration but out of boredom.

Glad I haven't played the demo... I'm holding off until the game comes out. I can't wait!

Re: Resident Evil 5

I tried the demo last night. While the graphics are great, I was slightly underwhelmed with the rest. I haven't played the the RE games that much but based on the reviews of those games my expectation for this were pretty high. I think I liked Dead Rising better. I've heard good things about Left 4 Dead as well and I'd like to try it out.

Re: Resident Evil 5

I tried the RE5 demo last night and I died inside the house I started off at. I ran out of ammo and had no idea how to use my knife or all the ammo I picked up. I guess this is why I should try reading the instructions!

I did however hate how slow I moved. I've never played any of the previous RE games so I was expecting GOW2 type movement. Maybe if I had actually opened and played the RE games I bought for the Gamecube and Wii I would know what to expect!

You could run if you held down something or clicked another thing. Kinda like COD4's running.

Re: Resident Evil 5

Wow, I've been reading the horrible reviews of the demo and finally decided to give it a shot. What a bad frickin game. Graphically awesome, but that's about it. This game is about as exciting as watching your toenails grow. The movement is like you're a wooden plank, can't move while aiming, reload is awfully slow, running sucks, etc... I am SOoooo glad they released the demo because this would've been a first day purchase for me, instead it'll be a 5-minute demo and never see it again savings of $60.

Re: Resident Evil 5

I played the demo a couple hours ago. It was alright, but not something I'd pick up the day it comes out though. The movement is like others in the RE series, never liked it. Guess I'm just spoiled by being able to move so quickly in other games.

Re: Resident Evil 5

Well despite not liking the first level at all, the shanty town level played a LOT better - much better timing and more opportunities to get focused. Definitely will be picking this one up.

Re: Resident Evil 5

On NXE there's a RE5 feature and the guy from Capcom says you can move and shoot. Is he wrong or are we missing a setting?

Silly question but is the "A" setting based on RE4 based on the Gamecube version or Wii?

Re: Resident Evil 5

Just played the demo and am very underwhelmed. I loved the past resident evils but the mandatory co op will be keeping me away from buying this on release day. At least re4 you were alone the first half and the presidents daughter was okay to command. This just seems to have way too much of an emphasis on co op. No way will I play this online since I'd probably piss off my partner from dying a lot

Played the demo twice, deleted it, and I honestly say I have no desire to play the full game. I think this is gonna be a huge letdown for a lot of people.

Oh wow I tried this last night and it looks great. But the gameplay mechanics were awful! I felt like I was stuck in quicksand. Maybe L4D spoiled me but doesn't look like I will be getting RE5. It's a shame because I was looking forward to this one.

Re: Resident Evil 5

I'm still looking forward to the PS3 demo, but this is not an early purchase for me. My threshold for pricing is about $30, and it's pretty rare that I go beyond that.

After RE4 on Wii, I don't think I'll like going back to traditional controls, and my hope is that Capcom will make a Wii-specific RE at some point using the RE4 engine. Now THAT would be a day 1 purchase for me.

I got a PSN e-mail that proclaimed the demo would be available on Feb 2nd as well. But from other sources this seems like the date for the Japanese demo.

The North America PSN demo is supposed to hit exactly one week after the 360 demo, isn't it? When was the 360 demo released, Fri Jan 30?

Re: Resident Evil 5

I also have been a RE fan from the start. Loved RE4 so I was really pumped to play this. Graphics are great but the controls seem somewhat clumsy and I think I had an easier time aiming in RE4 on the GC. Also, the first part was SUPER hard and is it just me or does the camera seem a bit too close to the characters? I felt like I had a really narrow field of vision compared to RE4.

Re: Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 4 on the Wii was great but the controls on Resident Evil 5 just sucked like usual. Slow game. I will definitely not be buying this game unless they make a Wii version which was the best in the series I thought
