Re: Resident Evil 5

X-Play just gave it a really rough review. 3 Stars out of 5.

Re: Resident Evil 5

what were their main issues with it? the control scheme? the fact that it's moved from a horror type game to an action game?

They said the story wasn't good, the control scheme was dated, it was racist, and the a.i. partner was dumb. They suggest to play it co-op which I was gonna do anyway.

Re: Resident Evil 5

They really said it was racist?

I know I'm a bit wary of the forced co-op myself, as I'm much more of a solo gamer.

They said racism reared it's ugly head during the game's development. Said Capcom is toying with loaded imagery that at times in American history been used to demean an entire people. They said that while it isn't entirely the case in RE5 it's use in the game lacks any real point of view. So they didn't really call it racist, but they implied it more or less.

I'm glad that I have a friend that it buying this tomorrow to save ourselves from a dumb A.I. partner which isn't too big of a deal. All of the reviews that I have read have all said the same thing. The computer partner doesn't combine items so you manually have to manage what they have throughout the game.

Worst part of RE4 was having to look out for the chick.

That's a load of crap. Where were they when re4 came out? It was okay to kill Spaniards but not okay for africans? Is Chris just supposed to stand there and let a Zombie eat him?

I'm going to spoiler this in case there's people who don't want to watch the review.

Spoiler:
From watching the review, there's a couple of different parts where you're apparently killing people wearing African tribal clothing and masks who attack you with spears. I have to say, that makes me a bit more wary about the game's intent than the original imagery that made people cry racism. And based on what was said in the review, it doesn't really serve much of a purpose to the story, which makes me think they were trying to stir up controversy from the start to get the game some free press. I'm still reserving my own judgment on the game's potential racism until I play it for myself, but based on my own experience with the demo and some of the more negative reviews, I may be waiting until it gets a price drop.

Re: Resident Evil 5

so just because the game is set in Africa, where people might be wearing tribal stuff, they should shy away from stuff like that because it might be deemed "racist?" seriously? fucking PC bullshit, if you ask me.

Re: Resident Evil 5

Picked up the game last night at midnight from Wal-mart but since I had to get up at 6:30 to get ready for work I didn't get a chance to play last night. Luckily I'm off all weekend.

Re: Resident Evil 5

Anyone know if the PS3 version lets you copy the game save? That would be the killer for me since I play on multiple PS3s?

Re: Resident Evil 5

I realised I made a big mistake after buying SF IV for ps3. Now I'm stuck playing through the game like 30 times to unlock people on multiple systems.

Wound up buying it for 360 just to be safe

Right... did people complain when you played a white soldier killing Japanese soldiers in Japan, or German soldiers in Europe?

Of course, I haven't seen the offending images/vids...

Re: Resident Evil 5

Some people will always try to use the race card, regardless of how stupid the assertion is. I won't let pathetic attempts like the ones I've seen around Resident Evil 5 steer me away from the game. Its just sad someone people are so fixated on race and stirring up shit.

Re: Resident Evil 5

just a heads up. that gift card deal that TRU is doing is good, but the gift card has an expiration date on it. card doesn't activate until 6 hours after you make purchase, and the gift card expires on 04/30/2009. so make sure if you do get it, you use it within the next month and a half.

Is it really 6 hours? Do you know if the system is set up to do that? I wanted to pick up Pinnochio with that gift card, but don't really want to make 2 trips.

Re: Resident Evil 5

Picked it up this morning and played through a couple hours of it. I'm having fun thus far. The difficulty of the bosses (The ones I've encountered anyways) is kinda easy, but other than that so far so good.
