That is the same thing I'm going through. I can't get anywhere with it either. "You'll be receiving a callback", "one more week", etc. Yeah right.

Yes, it start over with new replacement 360. As they explained on letter you receive with new replacement 360.

2. What happens if you don't send in your 360 but you receive the coffin? Do they charge you for anything?
Not sure about that. The coffin only came with empty box with foam, 1 ft tape, and instruction, that's it.

I don't know how long the service request number last... It's best to wait till you get RROD then request the coffin.

My warranty did not start over and I just checked online to verify.

You keep the same warranty and like most other things repaired or replaced under a warranty, the warranty does not start over again.

Some crappy warranties actually end once your unit is repaired or replaced.

I looked at the letter that came with the replacement 360 and no where does it state the warranty starts over, just that they will cancel the registration and extended warranty (if you purchased one) and they will register the replacement unit and establish an extended warranty on it.

The above covers the basic warranty and not any extended warranty as I did not purchase one. But I can't imagine they would have an extended warranty with a different start date than the factory warranty.

I still haven't dealt with this headache yet but the last time I had to send my 360 in the guy told me that the 2nd 360 was never transfered under my MS Extended warranty. He said I should -wait- until I get the "new" unit back, then write to their Warranty dept with the new serial # and ask them to transfer it. WTF?

As mentioned above, the letter(s) that came back with my 2 replacement units claimed MS would do all the transfer footwork for me. Obviously that was bullshit.

I'm gonna call them and try to deal with this in the next few days.

MS 360 Cock ups -ohbfrank-

My Warrenty seems to have been extended. The webpage now reads 7/19/08, which would be about a year after i requested the initial service.

I've read enough posts on other forums to know you've got thirty days to send it in, but, similarly, I've never actually read details about what has happened to those who start the process but don't complete it. Thus, my guess is that MS just eats that tiny coffin's expense.

As for my repair/return experience...
* Died 9/19
* Coffin received 9/26
* Brought to UPS 9/27
* Arrived in the Texas destination 10/2
* Guessing that the automated UPS phone call today, regarding a delivery tomorrow that needs to be signed for, is from MS... Replacement arrives 10/14

Not too shabby. Assuming the replacement actually works, the only thing that I'd even think to complain about was why it took a full week for the coffin to arrive when it was sent under 3-day shipping.

I don't have the letter here. But I wasn't sure if it was letter or the MS operator that said it "start over" the warranty. If the letter didn't say it, then obviously it was the operator that told me. :shrug:

Or perhaps, that the regular warranty will not restart, but RROD warranty may restart...

Well my Xbox Premium died after two months; it won't play any games that I put into the DVD drive; I get a white screen and it tells me to put the discs into an xbox console. It will play DVD movies though. What a piece of shit.

Edison 10-17-07 03:43 PM

The support website updated today finally saying that the device shipped to customer. So my 360 should be on it's way back (Yay!) rough estimate on shipping time? Do they send it back UPS 2-3 day? My luck it will be Monday next week.

That's how all mine died. :(

That's what my first one did too.

So obviously there's a problem with the drives, but what happens when you're out of the 1 year warranty period on non-RROD problems? Artificially creating the RROD will hopefully work.

I'm in the club!

Started up a multiplayer game of Halo 3 and it froze. Rebooted and it couldn't get past the Xbox 360 screen. Shut it off, pulled the power cord, plugged it back in, rebooted and got this:

http://www.flaming-egg.com/images/rrod.jpg

Just put in my repair order. Awesome.

aktick 10-18-07 03:22 PM

How long have you had it? What's the mfg. date?

Draven 10-18-07 04:12 PM

Manufactured on 9-12-06. I've had it for about 6 months or so, if memory serves.

Oh well, nothing I am dying to play right now anyway.

hiphopkid 10-18-07 06:24 PM

mine had a manufactured date of 5/06 I bought it last december and it died a week ago...that is fine, i just returned it to costco and i am using the money to buy the new elite holiday bundle. I actually made money from this!

killershark 10-19-07 08:52 AM

I'm sorry if this has been talked about before, but are there any warning signs of the RROD? Since I got Halo 3 my console crashes once or twice a night. It happened in the campaign and multiplayer. When it crashes, it mostly just freezes up, however once or twice i've gotten an odd white screen. My Xbox is a launch console, It never had a serious problem until halo 3. I'm hoping it's just a glitch with halo and not a harbinger of things to come.

any thoughts?

McHawkson 10-19-07 09:04 AM

It's likely. I get froze up everytime I restart the console and next thing I got RROD.

mattysemo247 10-19-07 11:05 AM

This is going to sound crazy, but I can't get mine to RROD. I have a launch system, and about a month ago it started acting up. I'm pretty sure it's the video card, but since it's a launch system, the only thing covered under warranty is if it RROD. I have left the system on for over 24 hours at a time and nothing happens. So, ya, that's my problem right now.

Wrap it in a towel or something to cover the vents.

mmconhea 10-19-07 12:27 PM

leave one vent open --- for the hair dryer

Gromit 10-21-07 08:38 AM

I got my repaired 360 back on Friday. It's the exact same system I sent in. Same serial number and manufacture date. It seems to be working though.

McHawkson 10-21-07 10:49 AM

I should get my 360 back sometimes next week. I asked them if they can email me to notify me that they shipped and give me the tracking number... They said they're having problem with email system over there and suggested me to check the website with my tag. I checked there with my tag and it says I don't have any system in repair. :hscratch:

Perhaps it's on its way already.

My system never showed up on the repair website either. If I tried to enter the serial number, it gave me an error message and told me to call the 800 number.
