When you get your 360 back from being repaired, what is the warranty on it?
Is it still 3 years from the original manufacturing date? Or does a year clock start from the moment you get it back from Microsoft? 6 months? Thanks! |
The warranty on my "new' (replacement/refurbished) unit is now logged as expiring on 04/04/09, a year after they received my original unit. I would assume the three years starts from that date as well.
Not sure what they do if you get your actual unit back. Anyone know how the alleged scratching of disks issue is? As i said elsewhere, I got my refurb back yesterday, and I'm a little wary of actually putting a disk in (gee, there's a motivation for DD, if all the disks get scratched by the unit, DD looks a lot more attractive.) |
From what I gathered with google, it sounds like it is a One Year Warranty from the date it gets "refurbished" and your original 3 year plan from the time you originally purchased, whichever time period expires in last.
So I purchased mine on launch date 11/05 and just got it back 4/08, so my warranty finally ends on 4/09 (instead of 11/08). I think that is right. |
So my dad sent his one-month old box back for not reading and messing up his discs. He got back a brand new system ... that couldn't sync with a controller. Now that one is going back. Poor guy ... he just wants to play Oblivion and Halo 3.

My Elite just started showing the RRoD. I bought it back in August when the Elite's were new. The manufacture date is 2007-06-16. Was playing Bully when it locked up. Hopefully the turn-around will be quick since I've got GTA IV preordered!

I don't even use this thing every day :( I play a game every now and then after work - then I don't use it for months. They are sending me my coffin. Do you need to sign for the package when it is returned? I got it back 4/23 - exactly 13 days after dropping it off at UPS store. I got back the same unit. I will hook it back up this weekend. |
Well, even though I had received no call from Microsoft (not that surprising) it looks like the DRM licenses were transfered at some point. Glad it's been resolved, though I still don't understand why they don't have a better system in place for dealing with that, considering the (original) 360's failure rate.

My xbox got the RROD on the 21st and UPS delivered the fixed unit TODAY. Thats 10 days including the weekend and UPS travel time--Not bad at all. My unit was built Nov 05 and they fixed it with no questions.

Got mine back yesterday. A refurbished Elite manufactured last July.

Did you send in an Elite? |
RROD today trying to play GTA 4 :(
|
I notice the number of these post have gone down. I wonder if the problem has been fixed.

Thought I'd update since I saw this thread ... ;) My dad got his second replacement system through Microsoft and ... it would continuously hang on the splash screen or the intro of any game if he made it that far. He had to talk to a "supervisor" because it was his third system going back, then they sent him another "new" one ... without a power cord (after they told him to return his). Now he's sitting with a new box and no cord (which was supposed to be delivered in 3 days 7 days ago). So ... he's gotten a month-and-a-half of play, and two months of continuous mailing with his 360. Right now, I think he's pretty fed up with quality control at the big M. But hey ... according to the CSRs ... at least he's gotten 3 free 1 month cards to Live! Of course ... as he explains to them ... it doesn't do him a lot of good because he lives in the middle of the country and only has access to dial-up .... |
Here I thought I would be one of the lucky ones. No such luck. After 16 months without problems I get the RROD last night playing GTA4 :(
Did the online request for repair so now I wait for a box. It better not rain this weekend or I will be doubly pissed off. |
Well... my launch 360 which had no issues whatsoever finally bit the dust :( I got the video display issues. Weird colors, then just a black screen with white dots. There goes $99 bucks....
|
Why wouldnt they fix it free if you complained?

You could always try to force a RRoD and then when you submit it document the video issues as a precursor to the RR. That might get it fixed under warranty.
I love my 360, i have the extended warranty, but i think it is absolute garbage they are trying to just cover the RR but ignore other problems. |
I would just tell them it gave you the red ring. Let it be up to them to tell you it didn't. :)
|
its worth a try. Worst that could happen is that they attempt to fix it and call you on it, at that point shell out the $99. Its already been shipped to them so it wont waste time
|
Yeah, i tried to force the red ring but had no such luck. I actually did tell the lady i got the RROD but she was like "RROD is different from the original problem you called us about and what you're repair is for". Whatever. I guess i'd be more upset but I'm not going to lie, my 360 has gotten quite a lot of use since launch day. Frankly, i'm just surprised it didn't give up on life sooner :)

Well, here's the reason behind the recall.
Same old story; going the cheap route, trying to save millions, but end up having to spend billions to make it better. My little rinkydink company learned that lesson years ago. Why does MS not understand any better? |

An application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) is an integrated circuit (IC) customized for a particular use, rather than intended for general-purpose use. For example, a chip designed solely to run a cell phone is an ASIC. |
