I am assuming I will be getting a refurbished unit back. I finally got a new SN but when I click review the reapair status it has a tracking number for a box that was delivered 8/16/07 to Cleveland, OH. I hope it is the site acting up but looks like a refurbished unit for me hopefully they did a good job fixing it.

Ran by CC with a friend yesterday where he snapped this picture. I had a good chuckle.

I do wonder what kind of ventilation they get in those clear plastic casings. They run a lot of hours so I wouldn't be surprised if this is somewhat common. And yes, sadly funny.

Giantrobo 09-04-07 03:12 PM

Yeah I've seen that in stores too. You can't help but laugh.

Also, the original XBOX's held in store displays used to RROD too.

Music 09-04-07 04:25 PM

hmm.. that is a different set of red lights....

Or does it change from vertical to horizontal?

Michael Corvin 09-04-07 05:16 PM

It could, but I bet three lights is still three lights.

Anyone ever have friends over with their systems? Great prank to play, turn theirs on w/o the video cable. It gives you the 4 lights, but they are so freaked they don't even realize it. Just did that this weekend. Cruel, but damn funny.

According to the Rep I spoke with the 360 has a "gravity switch" inside that changes the orientation of the lights so that the same set of lights are always in the same position. In other words whether you lay it flat or stand it up, the RROD will always be both left quadrant lights and one lower right quadrant light.. in the case of one controller on system with no errors, it will always be the green upper Left quadrant that's lit.

It sounds like they paid more attention to displaying the RROD then they did building the rest of the system!

Yeah the Video cable error is a Full Red Circle while the RROD isn't actually a ring because it's only 3 of the 4 quadrants. But most don't know that.

CaptStormy 09-05-07 09:13 AM

Just received my check from Xbox regariding the RRD refund. FYI for all those concerned.

Giantrobo 09-05-07 08:19 PM

I've said this before but i wonder if MS sees an upsurge in returned RROD'd units during Summer months? When Halo 3 hits i think we'll see another heavy hit in broken units.

Spiderbite 09-06-07 09:44 AM

I have been seriously considering getting a 360 for Halo 3 but reading this thread makes me want to wait until they have all the bugs worked out (which I am starting to believe may be never).

Any new news of the new chips/cooler systems? I may just wait until the end of the year to see if their is another price break. I hate to pay $350 or more plus game/extra costs for a piece of equipment with so many problems.

xmiyux 09-06-07 09:51 AM

Again, you are only hearing the complaints. I had to replace mine once and it wasn't a RRoD, it was a drive issue. I got the thing back in under 2 weeks, had no problems with CS, and it has worked since. It still seems pretty hot in the space where it is kept but it hasn't given my any more problems and it runs significantly quieter.

Maybe i drank the kool-aid, but even with the problems, this has been by far my favorite system.

I agree miyu, while my Xbox has been gone about a month(not RRoD) I have had no problems with customer service or my overall Xbox experience. I have called serveral times while it was visiting Texas and never waited more than 10 minutes which I though was pretty good considering everything I have read. My only complaint is the service website, which could use some work. I should have mine back Friday and hopefully they got the problems figured out so that I never have to send it back again.

Microsoft has already stated that ALL 360s are defective and will fail. It is not IF one will experience the RROD, but WHEN. If you are implying that hardware defects are overstated, then yes, you drank the kool-aid.

My launch-day 360 has been out of commission for 2+ weeks to be repaired for the RROD. I'm hoping that whatever I get back is indeed repaired of the RROD... because unfortunately there is no other game console out that has the variety of games AND can operate as a multimedia jukebox.

There have been a handful of reports that newly manufactured units (08/2007) have RROD'ed within 20 minutes. Maybe those failures are the result of typical failure rates, but if in the coming weeks those reports grow, then there will be cause to re-evaluate the situation.

so still haven't paid to fix my freezing (but not rrod) second 360 but i decided to rent bioshock last night. Played for like two hours and no freezes. then low and behold this morning, it froze. This thing is such a POS.

matrixrok9 09-08-07 12:55 PM

My 3rd one is getting sent back again because sometimes it can't read the games once in a while and the disc tray won't eject properly. Also the power button feels really flat and I have to press it several times before it turns on. The condition of this console is worse that the previous I had. I don't like the fact they send you a different unit.

mrglass 09-08-07 07:06 PM

My second coffin should be coming sometime next week. Mine died on me as I was playing Bioshock yesterday. I guess this means I can get back to Odin Sphere.

dvdmovie1 09-09-07 12:11 PM

Maybe I'm wrong or dim or both, but given the fact that MSFT is sending many people back refurbed units instead of the ones sent in for repair, wouldn't it be best for someone considering buying the system at this point in time to just buy a refurb unit from Gamestop/EB? It will likely break, you'll likely get another refurb back and you'd be paying less to begin with.

Spiderbite 09-09-07 09:31 PM

Any word yet on whether the new Halo 360s will have HDMI and the new chip to make it run cooler?

Im interested in that too since i just cant bring myself to buying a 360 after reading the threads here about all the problems. It may be a bit cheaper now but its still alot of money for something thats defective.

They will have HDMI but it's unknown if they'll have the new chips.

Sent my refurb back on Friday and got my Viv Pinata game the same day.

I think I'm seriously thinking of getting a PS3. Since I'll be sending 360's back to Texas every 1- 6 months for the foreseeable future I'll be needing a high powered gaming system to fill the void. I have a Wii but it's not the same thing.

WOWZY 09-10-07 04:02 AM

I got the rrod sporadically and started having problems with the tray ejecting. Wow!! It took them 12 days to get my return box sent here. Got my return box friday afternoon and will send it off today.

I'm in the same boat. I've started doing a little preliminary research on the PS3's capabilities.... (I was never interested in it before). So far, as a "total package" (nextgen gaming/multimedia hub) the 360 is the best.

If I get my 360 back (fixed/refurb/new) and it is indeed fixed of the RROD problem, then pass the kool-aid, I'll be singing MS' praises. :beer2:
