10 days to get the coffin?! That alone is a painful wait!

Yeah....I was about ready to go nuts at the end of the first week. I figured the rest of the process would be equally long but thankfully it wasn't as bad as that first part of the return.

I was able to register the "new" replacement on the X360 site. The "new" warranty status shows an expiration date of 11/02/2008 (since my 1st x360 died very shortly after purchase so i can't tell the new warranty is "new" or not). The status also open for repair if it needs to be "repaired," which is logical... So, looks like i'm all set for another year :) (three years if RRoD, but it's not really stated on the status page)

Stupid question, but when y'all send your 360s to MS in the coffins, are you also sending your hard drives?

Because I bought the CC protection plan (dumb, I know), I sent my 360 to CC's repair center. They couldn't fix the problem, so they sent me a GC (within 10 days of receiving the unit, impressively) for the purchase price instead of sending me a new unit. Because the 360 had to be complete, I had to send my HD.

Now I have a fat GC, but no HD.

Did I just stupidly lose a year's worth of acbhievement points, downloads, etc?

You lost your game saves. You also lost ability to play any purchased arcade games offline. You can do a gamertag recovery with you new system, and get all points/achievements back, though.

The saved games I wasn't too worried about (although my son and I had logged close to 40 hours on Lego Star Wars).

Do I just need to log on to Live to retrieve the achievements?

I had originally called MS on Nov 25th to start a repair order, and I am still waiting for the repaired console. The tracking number shows they just got it on Wed.

No, we keep the hard drive and send in 360 without hard drive.

No, you do not lose any achievement points or downloads (maybe not all). When my hard drive crashed, I bought a new hard drive - got my gametag recovered. I was able to re-download all of my purchased downloads, such as Oblivion download goods, Shivering Isles, and few acrade games - without paying extra.

Thanks for the feedback. Still kicking myself for opting for CC's plan versus just doing the warranty/repair through MS.

Have people been getting the new HDMI units as replacements? I want to hook my Wii up in component, but it is taken up by my 360. If I get a HDMI unit back I could use that input, and would help me avoid buying a switch.

You only get a HDMI unit if you shipped them a HDMI unit.

Except if you're logged out of Live, you can't use any of that downloaded content that you bought on the old hard drive.

Why? You have a gift card for the full amount so you can get one with the (supposedly) new innards and an HDMI port.

msdmoney 01-08-08 01:46 AM

I was just starting up Assassin's Creed tonight and I got the RROD (my second 360), Looks like I will have to call up tomorrow for a coffin. I had a feeling it was coming because games were starting to freeze more often.

I was going to put in Mass Effect tonight too.

My xbox 360 that I bought in November now has the three blinking red lights. My NCAA Football 08 game is in the xbox. I can't get it to eject the disc. Is there anyway to get the disc out? I wanted to get it out before I ship the system off.

Looks like you're going to have to take off the faceplate (which will NOT void your warranty) to access the mechanism: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906935

Because a.) the CC warranty was $70, IIRC, and b.) I had to send my HD to CC, which meant I lost all of my saved game data.

Would rather have my saved games than an HDMI port. (The unit I bought was fresh off the truck. No idea if it has new innards. How could I check?)

I have no idea why anyone would buy an Xbox 360 at this point, with so many problems still. This is the single worst piece of game hardware ever released. I really want to play the 360 games, but I ended up getting a PS3 instead. Maybe a few years from now if they ever release a hardware refresh I might consider it...

Thanks for the link. Something funny happened. I unplugged the system and took the faceplate off I tried to follow directions and I couldn't get it to eject. On a whim I put the faceplate back on and turned the system on and It's working perfectly now. It's weird.

Meh. The games are worth it, and the repair process was quick and easy enough. It sucks when the machine bricks, but it didn't turn into a big ordeal that really inconvenienced me, like say, when I have to take my car in...

It probably won't last... not being overly pessimistic, but you'll probably RROD again so be aware.

I think I've mentioned my thoughts on this before, but really, the games outweigh the annoyance of the issue. I agree the hardware is the worst for a console ever, but as long as you can potentially live without your system for a month or so, it isn't that bad. For me, there's plenty else to do when my 360 went down, so I didn't get bent out of shape about it.

Nice if you only use your 360 to play games. But when you rely on it as the hub of your media for playback of video, music, and photos, as well as games... when your 360 crashes, you lose more than just the ability to play games.

ElementZ 01-11-08 12:07 PM

Chalk me up as an RROD victim. Started freezing constantly no matter which game I tried. Took the hard drive out to boot it and up comes the 3 red rings. Put the HD back on and still get the red rings. Going to call today after work to see if I can send it in.

I do not have the original receipt but it was purchased in 12/06 and MFR date of 09/06. I live in Canada also. Will I have to pay and get it fixed? I think I am just going to buy a new one in the time being and trade/sell the old one when/if it comes back to me.

eatntae 01-12-08 11:23 AM

So I called today and Max told me that my Xbox has been repaired and shipped out. How do I go about getting the tracking number? I'm assuming I have to actually speak with a CSR, but I'd prefer not to if there's another (easier) way to get it.
