I've been using one for quite a while.

I almost got one early on but then I read the stories about it causing problems with the 360 like electrical current problems and burning the console. I think they may have "fixed" the latest ones but who knows. I still use my standing fan while the 360 is on and I gave my 360 more space for air to move just in case.

I have a friend who's heard my 360 plight and he thinks the power brick could also be contributing to the problems. He seems to feel that's been the one constant when the 2 previous units had problems. Who knows if there's anything to this.

I contacted their tech support to request a refund for the cost of the system since I already bought a replacement console at Costco (for easy exchanging if/when it dies). They sent me a canned response telling me to run through some steps to see if it fixed the problem. I went through those steps yesterday, which didn't fix the problem, so I told them that in an email today. I'm curious to see how they respond. I intend to fight them on this since their quality control seems to be non-existent. It's the best next-gen system in my opinion, but they can't seem to send me a refurb that works, and that's inexcusable.

Keep us up to date with your situation. It seems like they can't really pinpoint the problem and just blindly choosing a part to "fix".

Has anyone gotten a hold of the new Falcon systems? And if so, no problems yet right??

Edison 10-04-07 08:47 AM

When you go through the automated support website and start a repair ticket they send you a coffin box right? It just says my ticket is open, and there waiting for the unit at the service center.

I got a response via email telling me I need to call their phone support line, which I guess I'll do later today or tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to it based on my previous experiences calling in.

My uncle's xbox just got the RROD. Question, does he have to send in his hard drive as well or just the unit? Thanks

Just the 360. Remove the hard drive. They even told me to remove the faceplate and I just have the regular faceplate that came with the system.

Why hasn't someone (There might be) come out with a "new case" to hold all the XBOX 360 inards and offer more space and better cooling? I would buy something that would hold the 360 stuff along with the HD DVD drive.

Even though I got the new Halo edition 360, I am probably going to spring for the warranty just in case. I know that I have 90 days from Costco but was wondering at what point should I send the warranty card in. Now or when it is close to my 90 days being up? Do they start from 90 days after the purchase date or the day from the purchase?

Another strange thing is that if you pay with a check, your extended warranty thru Microsoft costs $60 but if you give them your credit card, it is $50. That makes no sense to me.

Yeah, they will send you a box... it should update to state that sometime...

I can't remember if it was a day or 2 for it to update properly for me stating they sent a box instead of just waiting... you will also get a tracking number for the coffin.

People still use checks?

It probably cost them more to process a check since it actually involves people touching the check and opening the envelope than a credit card which is all electronic.

Yeah I was just getting paranoid. Got the box this afternoon (requested repair Sat 9/29), and on my way now to the UPS center to ship it off.

I called the 800 number 1 year after I purchased mine (launch console) and was able to add the extended warranty

Gromit 10-05-07 06:15 AM

I called on 9/25 and I *still* haven't received my coffin to send back the RROD 360.

I called them to check on it the other day and was told it was "on the way".

Goldblum 10-05-07 09:31 AM

Any idea how much business MSFT is losing from this debacle? Any chance the 360 would have surpassed the Wii in sales had there never been a RROD?

That's stupid... I received the coffin in 4 business days after I placed a request online (9/21). They should have send the coffin immediately.

I love both systems but be realistic, the Cirque du Rouge isn't hindering the system's sales progress by any more than a speck in the grand scheme of things.

Ok, fair enough.

Amazingly enough when they screw up and double bill you they can't refund the credit card they have to send you a check.

And a quick glimpse at any Internet board, blog, review site or store feedback section will confirm how widespread the problem is.

Hardcore fanatics may choose to undergo all this bullshit and continually return their consoles, with the certainty that they'll lose their investment altogether after the guarantee runs out, but for most regular folks this is unacceptable.

I wanted and almost purchased one, and would have had it not been for this issue.

BS reason. You have a warranty for it. No reason not to get one if you want one.

For you it might be a BS reason, but personally i think a large amount of consumers think as Vandelay describes. $400 can be a lot of money, and knowing it will probably brake is a pretty darn good reason not to buy something warranty or not; especially if the warranty doesn't cover some of the other issues that people are reporting.
