Well, the most important that you got newer and larger heatsink and it should last much longer than your previous 360. I would be more happy that they "fixed" the heat problem that caused RROD.
I just sent the coffin back to MS today and this will be my third time I have gone through. I hope that will be my last time I will face that dreadful RROD! |

I just sent the coffin back to MS today and this will be my third time I have gone through. I hope that will be my last time I will face that dreadful RROD! Yeah but did I? They claimed the hardware was updated in the last unit I got and it didn't last 90 days. I will assume they were full of shit. That or MS is just having some really bad luck with the hardware they're buying. Like you, this is my third 360 and also like you I'm hoping this will be the last time I go through this. Sadly, I've got this sick feeling that it isn't. :( Now I've got to make sure they transfer this unit under my Extended Warranty. They say that they do in the "Sorry for you troubles" letter that came back with the unit, but according to one of folks on the helpline my last unit wasn't transfered. However, because it died under 90 days -ohbfrank-, it didn't matter because it was covered under the normal 90 day Warranty. Lucky me. He said I would need to write to the Warranty Center to make sure it's transfered. It seems each breakdown is causing me more trouble than the previous one. What's next? Oh well, for 2 broken 360's I got 2 1 month Gold Cards and Viva Pinata. |
Well I decided that even though my 360, to quote the Simpsons, "Ain't been quite right lately", I wasn't going to miss out on Halo 3 so I decided to try and find it for rent. Amazingly the first place I went to had a few copies. Got home and perhaps more amazingly made it through like the first six levels of campaign mode with not one freeze before finally going to be. Very odd how it'll freeze near immediately with some games but not at all with others.

That's what people are saying (not from Microsoft), they opened the XBox and noticed the difference from previous. They said there's a larger heatsink than old one.
90 days... wow. Mine took about 4 months to get another RROD - even I played it in 105 degree temperature last summer. |
think i jinxed myself, finished halo 3 and as the ending was playing, I got a Disc Read error!!! For some reason, it didn't save my subsequent checkpoints either so I have to do the entire second half of the last level again! ARRRRGGGGHHHH

As far as the cards, each time they sent me a "new" 360 I got a 1 month Gold Live card so that's how I got 2 of them. |

I'll have to look. I saw the link in the other 360 thread about how to look for the new parts through the vents. I just hate moving consoles once I set them up and I would never open one up out of fear of MS trying to weasel out of repairs. Either way I'm pretty sure my last refurb didn't have any new parts. Hmmph, less than 90 days indeed... 90 days... wow. Mine took about 4 months to get another RROD - even I played it in 105 degree temperature last summer. I've asked this before but I wonder if the 360 failures rise sharply in the hot summer months? |
I got my replacement today. It was manufactured on 09/13/2007. Now the countdown begins until this one breaks down...
|
Got my replacement today as well - and it's build date is also 09/13/07.
Total time = 4 weeks. 09/03/07 (Labor Day) - Died and set up a repair via the website. 09/07/07 - Received Coffin 09/08/07 - Dropped off coffin at Staples/UPS for Monday pickup (it was picked up Monday evening 09/10/07) ............... 09/26/07 - Status updated stating unit shipped. 09/30/07 - Last day of COD 4 Beta 10/01/07 - Received replacement.... Tried to log in to beta anyways.... Son of a!!! *cries* |
I got mine today as well and a manufacturing date of 9/14/07. Only mine got the RROD when I powered it up. This shit is fucking ridiculous, this is the 4th one. Even there new system still have the problem. Full report on my site, which is on my sig.

Yeah.... my original one was nice and quiet... this so called "new one" "built on 09/13/07" is a loud piece of crap and has a ton of heat blowing out of it.

When I first received my replaced 360, the video died on me within an hour. When I tried to "fix" it by taking the video plug off and re-plug in, the plastic thingy came out of it. I called them and explained the situation and they thinks I actually damaged it. -rolleyes-

I just got mine back last week, It is the same unit(same SN) Same type DVD drive, but it is very loud!.....at first I thought it was the fan, but it is not, it is the drive. One thing is for sure though, I have been playing the Sh*& out of Halo 3 and my 360 is running very cool......I don't need the extra fan blowing on it anymore.....
Laters & good luck too all.... |

Yeah I only saw one red light. According to Wiki 1 quadrant lit is a "General Hardware Failure". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_36...nical_problems |
It's the angle and the flash. The other 2 red lights are there. Either way, I'm pissed.

Have any of you gone and bought a 360 to use "temporarily" while yours is out for repair/being replaced, and then just returned it when you get one back from MS? I'm thinking about doing that next time I send mine in, if the return policy of the store will allow it.

For those of you that had the RROD; had you tried a NYKO Intercooler like this?
http://images.bestbuy.com/BestBuy_US...7882491_sc.jpg I've been using one for quite a while. |

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, my first replacement console from MS red-ringed as I was doing the initial setup. My second replacement arrived last week and seemed fine through setup. Then I popped in a game and saw all kinds of graphical glitches, similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nTC1RzcIy0
I contacted their tech support to request a refund for the cost of the system since I already bought a replacement console at Costco (for easy exchanging if/when it dies). They sent me a canned response telling me to run through some steps to see if it fixed the problem. I went through those steps yesterday, which didn't fix the problem, so I told them that in an email today. I'm curious to see how they respond. I intend to fight them on this since their quality control seems to be non-existent. It's the best next-gen system in my opinion, but they can't seem to send me a refurb that works, and that's inexcusable. |
