My original SNES died after maybe 5 years or so. It would crash hard after the initial boot screen came up. Other than those systems, I think the rest of my systems work, although I would guess most of them haven't seen action in a few years. I did boot up my 3DO last year and it was still working okay. Maybe I'll try my Saturn next. |
Sent my first 360 in for repair now after 1 month sent my Elite in for repair. WTF
You think if you call a system The Elite it would have all the bugs worked out. |
I haven't really followd the business end of this mess but has anyone lost his or her job over the 360 design flaws?

Nah, there was another dude that dumped all his stock and quit the week before the RROD extended warranty announcement.

Boy Nearly Killed Trying To Cool Xbox 360 A 14 year old boy from Brevard, North Carolina was nearly killed Sunday while trying to stop his Xbox 360 from overheating. The boy’s mother told local news that his Xbox 360 kept turning itself off after about 5 minutes. Her son had read online that he could stop it from cutting off by cooling the power supply. “I saw him put the cord on top of a box in the living room”, said the boy’s mother. “When I left to go next door he was playing a game but when I got back he was laying on his back on the floor and unconscious”. While his mother was away the boy had taken the power supply and wrapped it in plastic and tape. In an attempt to cool it off, he submerged it into a pan of water with the cord still plugged in. The boy had regained consciousness by the time paramedics had arrived. He was taken to the Transylvania Community Hospital in Brevard where he spent the night. Aside from getting knocked unconscious the boy only suffered small burns to his right hand and foot. Funniest thing I have read all week. |
14? That's high school, right? I'm going to go out on a limb and say he isn't on the Honor Roll.

What 14 year old does not know what happens when you submerge electronics in water while they are still plugged in? Too bad he didn't win a Darwin Award.
|
How badly would you have to be injured to require transport by the paramedics to Transylvania Community Hospital?

my 4th 360 is on it's way. Hopefully the 4th time is the charm. It should hit lLouisville today, meaning I might get it tomorrow (if UPS doesn't do that weird Louisville to Lexington back to Louisville thing like they did last time). I called on Aug 5th, so not bad at all given how much of the time is spent on having either the box or console in transit. The time window of them receiving my broken one and shipping this one was only 8-9 days.

If you're a Costco member, let me recommend buying your 360 there. They have a pretty liberal return policy, so if you get a RROD or any other issue, you can do an exchange there and not have to wait on a repair.

Sounds like a good deal to me as well. That's about $80 of extras for $50. Only a $30 savings, but what you get is decent. It's not like they are packing in extra shit you can't use.

I got my Elite right around when they came out (don't remember when that was, maybe May?) and before I bought the extended warranty from MS I heard about the RROD free repair plan. Now I'm getting antsy that something else could die, does anyone know if I can still buy an extended warranty 4+ months after I bought it? There's nothing wrong with it, but I'm sure nobody would believe that if I tried to buy the warranty now.
|
Yes. From my understanding you have the length of the manufacturer's warranty to purchase the extended, whether it is the first day you own it or the last day the manufacturer's warranty expires.
The original warranty was 90 days. I bought my extended on day 89. The default warranty is now 1 year, so I would assume you have the entire year to decide. Just call them. Doesn't hurt to ask. 800-4MY-XBOX |

So yesterday I started up my 360 and only got a black screen with flickering horizontal white lines. Restarted it and it was fine. The beginning of the end?

Got mine back within 3 weeks. I'm impressed. It seems like the refurbished console I receive is louder than the original. Also, it didn't come with the 1 month xbox live subscription card they promised.
I'll call them about that, but overall I'm happy with the turnaround rate. |
