Good news, but still no date, and without research it will probably be a crapshoot whether you get one or not just grabbing one off the retail shelf.

thanks all for the explanation... i like electronic devices in the horizontal position anyway . The only thing in vertical form is the Wii.

I'm hoping for Fall or Christmas... Hopefully, the new X360 can play HD-DVDs too (if not, i respect that)

The new 360s with the smaller chips will almost certainly not play HD-DVDs. However, there is an external HD-DVD player for the 360 that retails for $200.

^^^ Yeah, and the add-on doesn't take up too much room. It shares a speaker stand with one of my speakers.

A lot of people (myself included) will be looking for ways to "recreate" the 3 red rings if there unit dies and that's not the cause.

First time I had to send mine in it was not reading discs properly. So if I drop it on the ground enough times, or hit it with a hammer, will the red rings appear?

Anyone else having Catan issues? I hadn't lpayed it since Carcassone came out - so I fired it up last night. Each time (3x) upon starting the game, the screen added a shitload of new blue pixels to the upper portion of the screen. It only happened with Catan as far as I noticed - I played Pac-Man and Carcassone without incident. However, my 360 has frozen the last few times I fired up the Darkness - hope it's nothing

Well - it's something. It only happens during games though. I can watch movies on both the DVD & HD player no problem. Damn.

There's a Devil May Cry video up on the marketplace from TGS'06 that I haven't seen until today.

Should be a lot more new content over the next few days due to E3 as well.

Shoprite has the 360 Premium listed at $350 now, lending support to the price drop rumors.

Nice start. Hopefully they actually do have an official price cut announced later tonight and it goes in effect in time for me to piggy-back this 7/15-7/21 CC offer:

That'd be comparable to a $100 price cut for me. I'm starting to get excited and afraid that I might catch myself jumping in on this when I know I want to try to wait for 65nm and a few games I actually want to play.

My 360 just went red rings on me, after almost a year of no problems

Of course, I don't have an extended warranty on it, am I screwed? Or is it gonna cost me a bunch of cash to fix it?

It happened while I was playing Overlord, it just froze on me, and I turned it off, and back on again only to see "Contact Xbox Customer Support" and the red rings. Now as soon as I turn it on, I get the red rings.

Of course this happened after I played Gears last week, I had heard that game causes it sometimes.

What do I do now?

I just turned it on again, and got no red rings, but it froze on the main screen (the logo, but before the dashboard)

I turned it off and ejected my disc and the red lights started blinking again. It's the top left light, the one under it and the bottom right light. The top right light isn't lit.

MS announced last week that they will cover 'red rings' problems free for 3 years after purchase of a console. Relax, you're golden.

So what's the turnaround time on repairs? One week? Two weeks? I am glad I have the Wii and PS3 to tide me over.

Ok, after waiting 5 minutes or so, I turned it on again, and got to the dashboard, no red rings. Should I be happy, or am I only delaying the inevitable?

EDIT: Sigh, nevermind. I turned to look at the screen after posting this, and I see a bunch of what looks like little blue pixels on the screen and it froze. No red rings, though.

Ok I unhooked it and plugged it back in, removed the hard drive as well, and nothing.

I am about to call customer "service" now.

Earlier in this thread, we talked about how MS extended their warranty specifically for the three rings issue to 3 years.

This is EXACTLY what I'm seeing right now too. It's now fucked with an E74 error, which looks to be GPU related.

And I am too impatient to wait on hold right now.

Ok, talked to a rep about it. He said it'd be 3 days to get the box, and then 20 business days to get it repaired and sent back. But he said it may be longer because alot of people are sending theirs in now because of the warranty being extended.

So I figure I am out playing the 360 for a month, which sucks.
