That's kind of BS that only the rings are covered...my first and only failure so far (knock on wood) has been a drive problem.

So, how does one create the rings of death problem if that's not my problem?

Five new songs in the works for Boom Boom Rocket.

Sounds involved, so it sounds like it most likely won't be free.

Well, I purchased the extended warranty, but I've only had the 3 Rings of Death thus far. Sending in my console for the THIRD time. This just looks HORRIBLE to MS. A $1 billion dollar hit with all these repairs. If I was to have these kind of failure rates at my job, lots of lives would be lost and lots of jobs would be lost also.

I sent MS a nasty e-mail though, as they said they would EXPEDITE my return and call me back...no call and they gave me the nomral 3 day shipping. The first time I had to send my console back, they did Next Day Air.

Just upsets me....no E3 coolness for me. At least I have a PS3, and I may start buying cross-platform games for that now, we'll see, as I really like the 360 controller more.

so does this mean I can get my launch day console that died a few months back with the 3 red rings fixed for free now instead of paying MS $150.00?

360 Virtua Fighter 5 has online play!

Yeah, you read that right. Despite all the cries that it would ruin game balance, and that Virtua Fighter just wouldn't work online, there it is. Sega has officially announced that Virtua Fighter 5 for the Xbox 360 will feature online versus multiplayer.

Has anyone heard any details about the following statement from cnn.com?

"Bach said the company made some manufacturing and production changes that he expects will reduce Xbox 360 hardware lockups, but he declined to identify the problems or say which others might remain."

Presumably they got rid of/fixed the x-clamp that caused 98% of the problems.

So, those of us sending in our consoles....will we get a "new" fix this time? Any speculation...hopefully it doesn't delay anything as I have to send mine in soon.

This is my first post in the X360 thread, so don't kill me...

the reason i didn't get a x360 yet b/c of the constant story about the red ring of death. Almost all of my friends got that problem (only one guy's X360 is still running, well, he doesn't play it very much, just have it for "look").

Now, i heard that there will be a new model around Christmas which will solve the overheating issue, yes? My last question is that, will there be a X360 model that plays HD dvd (like the PS3, no add-on required)? I don't might the price is higher (of course), it's a perference thing, i don't have much shelf space... As a matter of fact, the horizontal position of the X360 don't fit in the stand at all.

There are rumors of a version with 65nm chips (CPU and GPU) but that's still just a rumor. No talks of including HD-DVD and I doubt that would happen.

And be aware - having it vertical seems to increase the potential for problems in the non-Wii systems. (from what i have heard)

yeah, i just saw the 65nm thread... the HD-DVD functionality is my wishful thinking (i can only pray at this point). If it's $600, i get the X360 w/o a doubt. Yes, i know i can get the same thing for that price, but still, we are talking about two pieces of hardware...

Well there already have been reports of newly repaired 360's coming back with a new heat sink. I imagine that would be the case for most of the systems being sent to MS for warrenty repairs now.

Leave your 360 down, not vertical. There's been a lot of reports of people leaving it vertical and having problems with it. So if you do get one, just leave it down.

Set your 360 up like this:

not like this:

(Even thought it is ostensibly designed to be set up either way).

The reason I've heard for the vertical setup being bad is because the system can sometimes get so hot that it unglues the epoxy on the chips, and they then fall off. If you've got in the horizontal position, then the chip will stay in place and readhere itself as it cools.

Ok, so a couple of questions.

1. I do not stand my 360 up, but my friend does. He has a cooling fan that the 360 rests in sitting in a vertical position. Should he still be concerned and not stand it up??

2. On the new 3 Year Extended Warranty, I was wondering if this applies to the Warranty that you buy through Microsoft that covers it for 2 years, or does it extend the regular Warranty that you have when you buy it?? I bought the 2 Yr. deal, but I was wondering if it's going to turn out that I didn't really need to.

Thanks for any info..

1. If I'm not mistaken reports of the 360 scratching discs are more frequent with it vertical. Not sure how the heat issue is that way. Mine is horizontal with plenty of room to breathe and I'm on my third one.

2. The warranty issue became quite complicated last week, here is the breakdown as I understand it:

Out of the box manufacturer's warranty:
- 1 year, everything covered
- 3 years only covers the 3 red ring issue

So purchasing the additional two years would have everything covered for a total of 3 years.
