Having a launch day 360 with no problems as of yet(knock on wood) -
apparently real lucky

Seeing as how my gamerscore is approacing 40K, it definitely is not because I do not play it that much. I do feel for all of you that have had system issues, but if it truly was such a large problem than it would be all over the national media and not just our web forums and there would be an investigation into Microsoft. When I see a statement like ChrisHicks posts above "they build a system that hopefully lasts one year" that honestly just comes off like sour grapes.

I don't want to scream "cover up!" but there definitely have been hardware problems that the media has just not addressed. The PS1 issue where you had to turn the console upside down was widely reported, and denied by Sony, never saw an article about it. The PS2 (old) stops playing CD based games, again, widely reported, denied by Sony. In this case, Microsoft (to their credit) actually recognized the problem and extended the warranty for free. Had they not done so, perhaps the media would have picked up on it a little more.

Sure, it'll always be the guys who have broken systems that will complain the most, and the ones who have working systems will (hopefully) be in the majority but not make any fuss.

They didn't intentionally build a system that breaks, but consoles are so advanced now, and there is such pressure to put them out on the market early, that it's no wonder that we have such problems. I don't think Chris was seriously implying that they make one that breaks intentionally, since they must have spent a bunch of money shipping broken machines back and forth under the free warranty, he was just joking about it. But it is a little ridiculous, at least to me, that the 2 year extended warranty has to be recommended not just for general piece of mind, but because it seems like the consensus here is that more than likely, something will break.

I have yet to experience problems with my launch-day 360, but I experienced problems with both the PS2 and PS3, so I'm a little sensitive to the subject.

considering in my immediate family, there are 3 people that own 360s. out of those 3 people, all three have had problems of some kind with their 360s, and this is within a 3 month period of actually getting the thing.

Same here. My ONLY problem is that I have to physically push in the cd tray at times. Other than that, no issues at all.

I've got a question. For OG Xbox games, the 360 upscales them to your selected resolution, right? I assume it just pillarbox 4:3 games? I'm just curious how my little babies Panzer Dragoon and Jet Set Radio look in HD is all. Oh, what about 2D games? Is it a crisp scale or a blurry one (sadly, I think I know the answer to that already)?

Same here *knocks on wood*. I've had a few 12 plus hour marathons on it as well. I did buy the extended warranty as well, whihc I usually never do. Figures I probably won't need to use it now.

Im sure others have said it, but about 8 months back, my system failed and I stated that EVERY Xbox 360 will fail at some point in it's first 2-3 years (depending on usage). That time to failure is completely unacceptable for any product - let alone a $400+ console.

If your system hasn't failed yet, good for you -- but it will, so get your extended warranty now

Everyone I play has had to send their back at least once. Including me. That's horrible quality if you ask me. My system was actually very recent. My poor brother got his at launch and it went back 3 times; Two he paid for.

Same here. There is something inherently wrong in MS's manufacturing process or the quality of their components and it's probably something that would border on recall if this were automotive. The should definitely NOT be charging people to have their consoles fixed. That's f'ing extortion.

OGDC: Microsoft Details Xbox 360 'Chatpad' Keyboard

During an OGDC panel on new opportunities in console technology, Microsoft’s GM of Xbox Live JJ Richards further discussed the recently announced Xbox 360 mini-keyboard controller, revealing that the keys can be used for gameplay purposes.

During a panel on new opportunities in console technology, Richards showed a slide picturing the recently announced QWERTY thumb-keyboard, which will debut later this summer and is to be used with existing Xbox 360 controllers.

As a series of points, Richards stated “I can have chat in my games, now that it’s a proper keyboard.” The moderator, Jeff Pobst of Hidden Path Entertainment interjected, “Are those buttons available for gameplay?”

Richards confirmed that they would be. “All of the sudden, I can have a controller with mini-buttons, if I want,” said Pobst. “It’ll be very interesting to see how developers take advantage of that innovation,” commented Microsoft’s Richards.

Later in the panel, he spoke about Live as the same service across platforms – the 360, and the PC – adding, “I want to kill the word ‘ports.’ Halo will be the first one to do that. Next month, Shadowrun will be the first one that does cross-platform play.”

With Live, Richards hopes that developers will “focus on the story, focus on a great game, everything else will be taken care of.” He concluded with “you build the content, we’ll allow you to ship it on the biggest platform you can.”

I thought that was a standalone device, not an addon for the actual controller.

If it starts to freeze more and more at very quick intervals, then I'd start worrying. If it has only frozen three times in two months, that's not bad.

My system seems fine after the update. I've had a few issues with NBA 2k7, but I think that might be the disc. For instance, the title wasn't showing up in the dashboard but Gears worked fine.

Well my dumbass went ahead and done the update just now after playing some Crackdown and ignoring the update. Guess what I got the 3 red lights of death, well I'm calling MS and demand a new one. They replaced it last year and I refuse to pay $130, it's faulty and in Va there is a lemon law.

This weeks XBLA game is Solitaire for 800 points. I can't imagine this will be all that popular at 800 points. I would have thought this would have been a 400 point game.

Immediately after downloading the Marvel UA Hero/Villians Pack, my XBox started freezing up again and, long story short, I'm awaiting another shipping box for the 2nd time in a couple months. *sigh*

They told me my warranty just ran out april 15th but I could get it repaired for $70. I said no it was your update that crashed my system and no fault of my mine except to run your update as prompted. Went on a rant that this is M$ problem not mine and that I'm sure someone will file a class action lawsuit. If your crashed call and mention DVDtalk, I did that there were a few reports of 360 getting 3 red lights. What pisses me off now no damn HD-DVD movie tonite!
